  • The plane was purchased second-hand and flown by Josef E. It's not my plane and I didn't fly it. I just made the video.

    Glad it wasn’t an all loss maiden. I myself had skipped over instructions almost every time during constructions. However. CG check is of an obsession for me before any maiden flight.

      For me too, of course. Unfortunately, he relied on the information from the previous owner instead of referring to the data from the manufacturer.

    Big Glow Engine. You don't see those very often now. I wonder what it is/was? Big ST 3000 maybe? Pilot was a little slow on the elevator to smooth the landing/crash.

    • @RC-Take-off
      @RC-Take-off  3 месяца назад

      I don't know about the engine. With the elevator I think the speed was simply missing at the last moment.

      Yep: out of airspeed, altitude, and ideas at the same time. It a squirrely bird!

    So easy to test the balance prior to takeoff. Why did you never performed the test?

      As far as I know, the owner and pilot of this machine bought it second-hand. He probably relied on the center of gravity marked on the machine. That was a mistake!

    Scheißgefühl so schwanzlastig zu fliegen... aber das Modell scheint enorm stabil zu sein... Mir steht ein Maiden-fligth einer Me163 bevor, deren Schwerpunkt ich nicht kenne... Nuri tail heavy ist noch übler... naja, sie ist schon mal geflogen, aber das Fahrwerk fiel nicht ab und ich musste praktisch mit Vollgas auf dem Acker landen.. und hab beschlossen in zukunft aufs Fahrwerk zu verzichten, auch wenn ich dann immer jemanden brauche, der den Brocken wirft...

    Very lucky, nose heavy flies poorly, tail heavy usually flies once!

      Ha! There were SEVERAL incredible displays of piloting skill as that thing whipped around and almost flipped turning like a weird bird!

    All he needed to do was to pull the throttle back a bit and it would've been a bit more manageable. I always make my warbirds NOSE HEAVY on a maiden and take weight out to avoid these situations.

    I have one of these. It has an EME 35cc with auto start. Even with with the weight of the auto start, controller and lipo up front. It’s still slightly tail heavy. I hope your friend is able to get it fixed and back in the air.

    It's a shame not to take advantage of all that tall soft vegetation when the landing is sure to go badly.

    • @michaelmcgovern8110
      @michaelmcgovern8110 2 месяца назад

      Mail pilots in the 1930s were trained to distinguish types of trees to choose the softest possible "landing" site.

  • @michaelmcgovern8110

    100% two thumbs up on the landing - no joke. You flew that off-balance bird right to the deck, closer each time and then stalled it at (almost) zero altitude.
    Nice.

    Im not sure the CofG is too far out there, it looks like the plane needed some down trim and the elevator rates reducing, perhaps less expo too. Having the radio setup able to adjust the throws and the expo while flying would have made all the difference here.

      It's not my plane, but I'm pretty sure it was the center of gravity. My club mate will definitely check everything, and maybe he'll read your comment.

    The more fuel burned from the forward fuel tank, the worse this already tail heavy plane could fly.

      You balance the plane on an empty tank.

      I didn't look at the plane up close after landing, but I don't think much was damaged. Keep your eyes open when buying a used plane, and don't believe anything the previous owner says.

      I don't know, but I think he had a lot of trouble keeping the plane in the air at all, so he landed as early as he could.
