Great Big Band music by Frank Mantooth: right up there towards the top. That's why it is such a favorite with school and amateur bands. Ashely is a great "bone" player as well as arranger. Does anyone hear the Mixolydian chords? I wouldn't know one if I heard one. RIP, Frank and Ash...Thanx so much, Vilibattya2!
I was a student of Mantooth in the late 80's and 1990's. He largely had his own style--it stemmed from influences of 70's funk/groove with innovative harmonic structures and voice-leading...that's about the only way I can put into words. Hope that helps :-) He was a master arranger for any group of instruments; he also liked using lesser-used jazz instruments like the English horn.
I have 2 copies of the vinyl. Thought I'd lent the first to someone. tracked down a copy in the US, paid the postage and import duty to the UK to then (you're ahead of me aren't you!) yes I found the first one!. If interested, drop me line
Hi By mistake I thought I'd lost my copy of the album, spent ages searching and eventually imported a copy to the UK (and paid enormous taxes) from America. I can sell you one of my copies if you are still after it
Thanks so much for uploading this - what a tune! :) Can you correct the title? It's "Mixolydian", not "Mixolidyan". More people might find it, then. :)
