    He understands in such detail how each musician must adjust, and that command of the material and the technique is amazing.

    a complete mastery of Tchaikovsky's great masterpiece.many were eluded by the melodic episodes of the symphony but really it is one of the most difficult symphonies ever written. Gergieve is a very charismatic conductor and for sure one of the greatest conductors of our time.

    I was sitting for the whole video just amazed how one of the greatest conductors making this symphony so alive.
    P.S. and was surprised how some of the musicians were looking so unattended. VALERY GERGIEV makes space in his time to conduct the youth orchestra, and some of them just looking around, laugh, take their shoes off (that just pissed me off), sitting like on a freaking sofa, not looking at the conductor (my god man, can you just play by heart one the most famous clarinet solo and look at the conductor...)
    Just to play at least for ones in Gergiev's orchestra- that would dream come true.
    Bravo, Maestro Gergiev!

      Cold German Beer I didn't realize the rehearsal was recorded. Cool find! This Tchaikovsky 6 performance remains my favorite concert to date. I am sorry that we appeared tired and unfocused. We indeed were in a festival where we had two off days in the entire 5 weeks. Everyday consisted of at least 6 hours of orchestra rehearsals, between or after which we added in chamber music rehearsals for concerts that started at 11pm. It was physically and mentally tiring. I can't speak for everyone, but a lot of us knew and personally realized he's one of the most inspiring conductors. I hope you can sympathize with our schedule and I am sorry sometimes we looked and were indeed tired!

      Completely understandable. By the way, your Chaconne was really well played.

      I'd like to see you staring at a conductor every day for 6 hours and be amazed all that time :D Why can't a musician relax his back in the rehearsal when he doesn't have to play?? In the concert it's a different story I think.

      Maybe, but the problem is never the blame of one side. True, VG is a world class conductor, however, he did not connect with his players, he did not lead them as young people with inspiration. I was truly stunned how utterly detached he is in this rehearsal. The music is great but he is on his own; maybe better for him to not work with young people; watch Dudamel.

      @@peterjermihov1821 There is no one to blame because there's no problem. It's a regular rehearsal.

    It doesn't help that 4 & 5 or more standard in the repertoire. I had the opportunity to perform 6 twice in the same summer in 1999. And I didn't know it going in. And sadly, it was one of the most impactful works I've had the opportunity to perform, and not yet had the opportunity to perform it since. One performance was outside the and wind swept across the bandstand at the end during one performance. Amazing.

      Evan Wise It's super hard to ever know that videos like this one exist because they're outside the parameters that RUclips's algorithm promotes. Probably only people who watch a to of gergiev or verbier videos (like me) ever see this in the suggested videos.

    • @evanwise7131
      @evanwise7131 6 лет назад +4

      Very true and good point. I just hope most people studying conducting would watch enough Gergiev videos to have this one show up.

      RUclips recommended this to me because I watch lots of TwoSetViolin (I`m not a musician but it`s too great). I wat watching and thinking of Tiaki`ss conducting from anime Nodame Cantabile. I hate listening to orchestras, but this sounded so graceful I felt elevated for the first time ever.

    Pay attention Americans. He spends almost no time barking about ensemble or technical issues. Music, music, music.

      Any hints on which American conductors you are referring too??? One can only bark at ensemble or technical issues if those issues exist! or are you suggesting on a very SLOPPY but "musical" performance??? that to me sounds like very low standards..... and also why so sour about us Americans???
