This episode was special... as much as I love your inspired choice of music for background soundtracks, there's nothing quite like just the raw sounds of wind, waves, and the terrified screams of the crew! More of this, please! (Loved the colour of the water there, too!)
Thanks for saying that. I can always count on your feedback to make me feel good about the edit. I was just feeling very down from a different subscriber telling me in colorful fashion how poorly he thought of the video lacking music and talking, but he completely missed the point - which you clearly received as intended. Thank you.
What was it that did it for you in this video? The breaking stuff? The unhappy crew? The knotted reefing line? Flogging sails? Bow going underwater? So much to choose from.
Your skill set is very much one that should be shared in as many mediums as possible your wit and wisdom is a rare gift and should be shared by everyone
Thank you for this video with the sound of the waves and sails, it was a nice change from the awesome music you usually provide. I have also signed up to review your books. I can always use more reading material. 😁
I don’t know about the virtual voice part, but the books will also go up on Audible eventually. That’ll happen once the paperback is established though.
Ben, as part of preparations for the Carib 1500 one year a doctor was giving a seminar on handling mediical emergencies. He told us to take Bonin the night before departure, not the morning of. Signed up to review. If the books are half as good as the videos, I'm sure they'll be a great sucess. PS - vang failure looked like crevice corrosion, a.k.a rust 😊
Thanks for saying that. The timing is appreciated. I’ve been getting beat up from a few particularly opinionated un-subscribers. Whew. Some people. Anyways - really, thanks for the compliment. It’s wonderful to hear.
About 25 years ago I bought a 23 ft Sloop and proceded to make several serious mistakes. 1. Did not have the impeller replaced on the 8 hp Evinrude Sailmaster. In fact, I did not even change out the lower unit oil. How dumb! 2. Did not inspect the standing rigging. One of the shrouds was not secure on its spreader. Yikes!. 3. Did not buy a Delta anchor to replace the broken CQR. 4. Proceeded to sail from Key West to Baltimore without doing any of the above. Thanks to dumb luck, i arrived.
That’s a cool story. I get the feeling that kind of luck applies to a great deal of sailors. It’s kind of a strange thing how some people, even other than sailors, seem to get quite far even despite a great deal of gross negligence, while others who go by the book can be punished in a big way for the smallest missed detail. Odd world we live in.
As someone who just bought a 23 foot sloop.. maybe I'll just make some double checks before I drop her in the water. On the plus side I'm learning to sail in a protexted bay that should hopefully limit the bad consequences of my mistakes.
Isn't it weird think that it's still out there - laying on the bottom - all crusty, and barnacled with little crabs crawling on it and fish swimming around it?
I believe the word you're looking for is "erotica", but no to all of the above. I'm writing on a variety of non-fiction topics geared towards kids, teens, parents and seniors. For example, the one that will likely be published first is a self-help book aimed at teens, containing practical skills they need to know for the real-world, but aren't taught in school. Another is a riddle book for kids & families on long car rides based on sights, places, or objects they might see out the window. Another is a fitness book for seniors or people with limited mobility that utilizes walls or chairs as exercise aid. The topics are all over the place, but 2 things they have in common are that there is strong market demand within the niche, and it's also on a topics that is near to my heart for one reason or another.
What is the subject matter of the books you are writing? Are they instructional in nature? Novels? Depending on the subject, I might be interested in reviewing. Cheers!

If you're referring to max boat speed, about 8.5 sustained is what we've been able to reach. Any faster would require more wind, more wind would cause more healing, more healing would cause the admirals eyeballs to vacate her skull.
I'm not sure if I have enough grease to put it on everything. In the past I've only bought small cans of grease, but I was unaware of the importance of applying it to everything back then. Now that I know better, perhaps I should procure grease by the 55 gallon drum. If you'll further forgive my ignorance, how does one go about applying grease to everything? Do you recommend a commercial-grade mop, or perhaps there's a way of spraying it on everything with a high-pressure hose nozzle? Is there any need of donning personal protective equipment during the application process or should I simply grease myself initially to protect myself from the grease? Any further advice is appreciated.
@@Sailboatstory Grease should not be over applied. Spray white grease is good for small things like your broken swivel (before it breaks, not after) but just a little. Think winch, too much is just a pawling.

Love your videos. Hard to watch your wife and daughter sitting on the deck in rolling seas in open water without a pfd on. Not a criticism. Was just eager for those scenes to pass without any hiccups.
It’s one of those “to each their own” type of things. You’ll likely notice that hardly anyone whose been doing this kind of thing for more than a few weeks doesn’t feel the need for insuring against every possible bad scenario at all times. Eventually you just let your instincts and abilities lead the way. Of course, the conditions at the time you’re referring to were rather mild, comparatively, but everyone has their own tolerance that they have to respect and abide by.

Snatch block in a clew looks like a dangerous practice, they can violently flail in rough conditions.

I noticed the difference, it took me a minute to realize what was different. But i really got into the "music" of the sails and water. @Sailboatstory
Oh, dude…..you’ve got me dying to get back in the water. Two and a half years on the hard is enough. Love you guys! 😎🥰❤️😎🥰❤️😎🥰❤️

@@Sailboatstory Sounds like a pretty accurate depiction of cruising to me! Man, I MISS it! 😆🤣😘
Geeze! Youse were just zoomin' along. Near ta theoretical hull speed!? Well done!
Yep. When we bought the boat, the internet experts said it’d be slow. I knew at that moment, it’d be fast.
Done - Look forward to reading your books

Lovely vessel. .. looks properly spruced up especially the dingy 🛶 & she's not too greasy may I add..just right..😉
Thanks very much. I don’t know, I’ve been getting some feedback that suggest the boat could use a liberal amount of grease.

Just a note grease and oil are your friend. Put it on everything. Prevents things from oxidizing and drying out. Nothing can be too greasy or oily.
