Charles Lindbergh was my father's hero, and James Stewart was the perfect actor to portray him.

I watched the movie "The Spirit of St. Louis" last night. I loved watching the movie. I have not checked to see if their is a book.

Why did your ancestor or whoever it was desecrate the plane in order to obtain it like some Roman Catholic relic? You ought to be ashamed to be such a scavenger.
@@periphron Well, aren't you just so high and mighty to pass judgement on this proud owner of a piece of the plane! I assume you don't know details like (a) how did he get it? Perhaps someone gave it to him and he has no reason to be ashamed; (b) Perhaps it was an inconsequential piece that was auctioned off to raise funds for the plane or subsequent endeavors. My point is that there are plenty of possibly acceptable scenarios that perhaps you have not, or will not, consider. Regardless, the world is a sad place right now and beating this poor owner down at this point only shows your meaness

Jimmy Stewart was nearly 50 when this was made. They should have caused someone younger, then it would have been better.
Not a great bio-pic. Jimmy Stewart plays Lindbergh without looking anything like him and sounding like Jimmy Stewart. The movie lost money at the box office and was more or less a forgotten movie.
However, it is hugely popular among anyone involved in aviation. Just ahead of its time and audience.

Director Billy Wilder considered this is WORST movie ever ...

@@SistoActivitatemAtm According to Billy Wilder's biography : "The costly production was troubled from the start, Wilder got bored with it and a lot of footage was dropped and re-shot by another director (John Sturges). Never a good sign ! As for Wilder's own appreciation, he said : "I wasn't able to depict the character of Lindbergh. That's what was lacking : the exploration of a character."
