  • The Inspire 2 is a $5,000 drone in it’s basic form. Is it worth the price tag? I sure think so, and here’s some reasons why.

      Scott McKenna but why did u compare it with Mavic air why not with P4P? many of the points cud have been nullified including this one 4K 60p.
      and btw Mavic Air and inspire have no comparison reason what so ever.
      both are diff drones all together.
      no sense in comparing. cant believe u actually seriously did that !!!
      P4P and Inspire still could be compared.

    With the hype about the Inspire 3 coming to the market hopefully this year, I find myself (and a few other drone operators) watching videos about the current and now dated Inspired 2.
    To me there are basically 4 reasons why it is worth it. First and more important in my opinion is the fact it produces film industry ready files. Mavic 3 cine would do that too at way less price but it is not upgradable, and that is reason number two for me, the Inspired 2 is upgradable. Three, it is very helpful to have one operator dedicated to the camera only. It makes a huge difference. And last, it performs fast and steady regardless the wind. IT is the only device in the market for film makers able to do all those things.
    The rest, including how smooth it moves is irrelevant. Any drone operator well trained will catch any shot anyway they want without limitations on the drone movement. This video is now old but still relevant. Great job.

    Interesting video. We actually “downgraded” from an inspire 2 to a p4 pro and it was a really good decision for us. Although the 360 camera and extra image quality is nice we found for the type of work we mainly use a drone for, aerials of resorts around the world, that the p4p is a much better tool for the job. Our main issue with the inspire is its size, traveling by plane was very difficult and the set up time was just too slow. We also found it disturbed guests too much at the resorts.
    Personally I think you should only purchase an inspire 2 if you plan for drone shoots to be a big part of your business. If it’s only occasional or a small add on to your film/photography business then the p4p is a better option. Also if you do go for an inspire 2, you really should go all out and get the x7, raw/pro res etc to get full use out of it.

    • @scottmckenna
      @scottmckenna  6 лет назад +1

      Spot on advice and thoughts for sure. I’ve actually been looking at a p4 Pro for other shoots when I want quality and can’t have size. The p4 Pro is fantastic for sure.

    • @ChristiaanRoest79
      @ChristiaanRoest79 5 лет назад

      Yes the inspire with zenmuse x7 is great for clients that demand the best quality. If your not a filmmaker the p4p is the way to go. I am very curious what the phantom 5 will be like.

    • @freeandcriticalthinker4431
      @freeandcriticalthinker4431 4 года назад

      palfrey411 the X7s isn’t that much more of a bonus in image quality, been there and done that. Additionally, the P4P is a flipping loud drone. My guess is it’s as least as loud as the Inspire or more so and certainly the higher frequency sound is damn sure more annoying, in my opinion

  • @misterp6052
    @misterp6052 6 лет назад +5

    @scott Very good point about platform perception. I had to sell my Inspire 1 and was only left with my Mavic Pro. I got a professional gig for a large multi-building commercial real estate project. I was able to get away with using a Mavic Pro because my clients were never on-site. However once they told me I’d be the drone company they were going to use for all drone jobs I instantly upgraded to an I2 with X7 camera with Cinema DNG and Pro Res licenses. Best decision EVAR!

      Yes I agree. When it comes to being hired for high end aerial production; showing up with a Mavic isn’t great. You never want to hear “my son has one of those things”.

    100% agree. Spotlight Pro is a game changer. And shooting in ProRes. I think that's a massive upgrade from the h.264/5 if you can handle the file sizes. X7 is awesome too - so clear and great low light. Having all 4 options is cool, but I'd just get the 16mm and 50mm if we were to do it again. FOV for 5.7K has been super nice as well... the list goes on and on...

    This drone is well built but still has a lot of software bugs. I've been flying Dji products for years, the Phantom 4, Phantom 4 V2, Mavic Pro, Mavic Pro 2 and have had good success. This drone, however, even after updating all the firmware and familiarizing myself with it before flying, it crashed on the third flight. The DJI go 4 app crashed mid-flight with the notification of "wait" or "cancel". I at first pressed "wait" but nothing happened. Then I pressed "cancel" hoping to restart the app. The Mavic 2 Pro app occasionally crashed mid-flight but just held it's position until I restarted the app. No such luck with the Inspire 2. It immediately returned to the take-off location, however, since the app crashed, it must have turned off the obstacle avoidance system and although I took off about 15 feet away from my car, it crashed into the car, not only defacing the car, it also destroyed the drone. Needless to say, I'm not happy. I am not going to repair this drone. I'm going to set it on my coffee table as a testament to my own stupidity for paying over $12,000 for this and to remind myself never to do this again. Unless you have money to burn, stay away from this drone.
    And yes, I know I could have still controlled the return with the controller, even though I couldn't see through the camera. I couldn't know the drone was racing back to the take-off point while I was trying to restart the app. By the time I realized it was about to crash into the car, it was too late.

    I would say that most of the people that own a drone today are not getting paid to fly them. Therefore why would they even consider spending over $5,500 on the Inspire 2. I get it. They are correct.
    The Inspire 1 was probably right at the cusp of what non-professionals (not getting paid for their work) would spend on a drone. That combined with the newness of that configuration and the stability that it had over the Phantom at the time was a game changer. Fast forward to the Inspire 2 and now you have all the advantages you spoke of and also the massive increment in camera quality for the entire DJI lineup. Throw in the novelty of a drone warring off and you have a now a large gap in the consumer drones vs the more professional drones. If you are flying professionally, then the Inspire 2 can pay for itself in 1-3 jobs (your mileage may vary). Sp as a professional, why would you not get it? If your just more of a hobbyist, then you would be insane to spend that kind of money on one, or, you just have money to burn.
    Appreciate all your videos and info Mr. McKeena. Keep up the great work.

    Hi man, I am on my way, starting a aerial photography business in Denmark and have flown drones but haven’t ever had a real professional drone like the inspire. My question is: should I go ahead and spent the extra from the start, getting a drone fulfilling ALL my needs for at least the first couple of years or ‘just’ get a mavic and start of with all the semi-professional work like weddings etc. and then work my way up to the inspire? What is your experience? Does a lot of customers require the capabilities of the inspire? Many thanks

    • @scottmckenna
      @scottmckenna  4 года назад

      It really depends on the type of work you're doing. More times than not, which drone you have doesn't matter to the average client because they don't know the difference. If you're looking to do things on a bigger level with higher paid clients, then you'll find some of them require certain drones.

    I think my I2 is the last "expensive" drone I buy from DJI. So much problems.. Had the I1 too and there were problems with that one too, but not near as much.
    Do not get me wrong, the I2 is a brutal nice drone, but DJI is doing it´s best to destroy it. New firmwares that making one thing after another to go bananas. Camera that drifting of it´s own, tilting horizon, IMU warnings and the list goes on and on. People even loses their motors while flying. Arms shifting in flight and the drone crashes..
    I do not feel comfortable when I fly my I2, because it fails too much for me to relax. Had it even grounded for a while, until I found a solution to how I would not lose the motors.
    Do not want on my conscience that a 3kg drone crash and hit someone in the head.

    Ive read about hover stability issues in the I2 , did you see any of that?

  • @MrKenrwi
    @MrKenrwi 6 лет назад

    Really, the P4Pro v2 is a much better option overall. The i2 is just to big and travel is a bitch. Now i2 has a option that might be the only win and that is the camera options, I get that but please 5k plus price tag is nuts. And the batteries are going to cost another but load of $$. So for the business it might work, but for others P4v.2 wins!!

      It’s all about how you use it. To me the Inspire is worth every penny. Not everyone though, I get it.

    I have an Inspire 2 on ebay for sale right now and in the end after it's all said and done it was the worst investment i've ever made not as far as doing the job thats needed but as far as re-sale value you will lose your socks. Smh Bad

    • @scottmckenna
      @scottmckenna  6 лет назад

      Resale value on gear is always no good, and especially something like the Inspire 2 because there just aren't a ton of people that will buy it. Either way, I have no plans on selling it.

      Some gear resale much better than others like Lenses, but thats cool happy it's all working out for you lol but the rest of us are toast lol.

    I'm amazed at how many people that buy a drone all of the sudden become The Steven Spielberg of the Drone World. They also become very arrogant about equipment. Just Sayin.

      @scottmckenna  6 лет назад +1

      Arrogant about gear? Interesting. Apparently you don’t follow my channel much because that’s never my approach. The point of the video is helping people make a good decision about which drone to buy. Sorry if you took it as arrogant, because that’s not me.

      But it does give the mavic the ability to do the same kind of shot, admittedly you can't see whats in front of you :-) Mavic Pro and Phantom 4 Series also has spotlight via active track but interesting video though.

    Hi Scott, did you tried the Cendence remote with a Crystalsky monitor? That combo is such a great step upwards!

    • @scottmckenna
      @scottmckenna  6 лет назад

      Yes that’s what I am looking at.

    • @misterp6052
      @misterp6052 6 лет назад

      I have the Cendence with Patch antenna. Freaking remote has so many customizable buttons. My favorite two are the trim levers which allow you to adjust the total amount of throttle and yaw and it’s a continual slider not just binary. Cendence can really simulate a 2man crew.

    working with a notebook in a starbucks, really? :D I never got why anybody would do that. Just so everybody can see how hard you work??? I mean, you can just work at home and drink your coffee, it's cheaper and way more comfortable... so silly.. sorry for that. :D I love your content nonetheless, really enjoy the behind the scenes stuff and already learned a lot of from it. :)

      What’s weird about someone doing work in Starbucks and drinking coffee?

    • @bjoernfischer
      @bjoernfischer 6 лет назад

      it's obviously to get attention or be cool or what ever, why would you work in a distracting coffee if you wanna get some seriours work done? it's just silly, my opinion.

    • @HoustonBrownPhotography
      @HoustonBrownPhotography 6 лет назад +2

      I do not care to do it as I am one of those people who need the silence and a 27" monitor to do my work. (Squirrel) I see the attraction of getting out, for sure. If for no other reason, just for a change in environment. Not sure why you even care about this. We are talking about the I2 here not social behavior.

    • @scottmckenna
      @scottmckenna  6 лет назад +1

      Not as silly as your comment to be honest. Working in a Starbucks has nothing at all to do with showing off or being cool, it’s about changing your environment and drinking coffee. I am sometimes more productive at Starbucks then home. Regardless, it’s definitely not weird lol. But to each it’s own.
