I'm such a big fan of Westons, Henry Weston range, if you get my drift. I'm going to have to explore some of the rest of their range, Rosie pig. Stowford press and the like.
Excellent video, thank you. I have to say, I’m a fan of the LIDL version. Being in London, we’re lucky that it’s super cheap compared to some nasty versions. I always go for Weston’s as a vintage, but I like Thatchers for the more regular, everyday cider.
Thank you for taking the time to watch, i enjoyed filming this one, like you, I do enjoy weston's vintage but it is a little on the heavy side. thatchers do some respectable ciders, I particularly enjoy their Gold.
Only 1.20 for Woodgate (about 1.80 for Henry Weston's) from my local Lidl in London. The same price as a can of cat piss tasting white cider from the offy, and it actually tastes really nice! So nice to see a product that's genuinely great value.
I am surprised to see our local Lidl is selling the two ciders side by side making it easy to do your own taste tests., and to be honest if I have one of the ciders one night and the other the next night I cannot tell the difference?
You should have included Aldi's Orchard Vintage Cider, also by Westons, but at the full 8.2% unlike the Lidl version. More full flavoured like own branded Westons, but without the slight acidic tang of the Westons, which makes it overall a better cider.
Morrisons also do a Westons made own brand in a 2.25 litre box for about 5.50. Only 6.7ish, but flat, drier and got a proper agricultural tang. It's really good, if you like the more rough cider side of things
Woodgate is my choice compared to Westons. £1.15 in Huddersfield Aldi. 8 of these at home on a sunday for less than a tenner go very well with our roast. Who needs to go out? 😁
The Lidl knock-off brand alcohols actually surprise me. I've tried several of their beers and ciders. You get quality for your money and if you are trying to stretch the pounds, it's weel worth going out of your way to get the Lidl products. It's only slightly "not as good" as the feature brands. You hardly notice as you see in the video. I have to say that Westons is a nice treat. The regular Strongbow drinker will love it as such.
Thanks for the input, much appreciated. Like everyone there have been times when I’ve had to watch the pounds, I have been really impressed with both the German supermarkets, as I type this I’m trying aldi’s ruby ale, it used to be called Medusa and is a hobgoblin alike, which I’m enjoying more than my last wychwood beer. Have tried Lidl’s strongbow alike woodgate original, if so what did you think ?
@@ivehadworse7713 Funny you should say because I happened to have a Woodgate in the fridge just now. It says on the can, "A crisp and refreshing dry cider with a distinctive fruity flavor." I prefer crisp over smooth with ciders, arguably most do, but Woodgate is a bit short on the crisp as advertised. That said, it is a perfectly flavorful cider which makes up the difference. Overall, as I've said previously about the Lidl alcohols, it doesn't taste cheap - which is kind of weird in that they can have this quality at a such a low price.
That's because the likes of Strongbow and other mainstream popular ciders aren't properly traditionally made cider - it's a load of rubbish labelled as cider. Sadly the real cider makers that make good quality tasting ciders are the ones the majority of muppets don't drink and will therefore struggle to remain in business.
Lol. Agree on making a fool of yourself on the H. Westerns. Not a big drinker but like a drink so hits spot for me........in the house. Wouldn’t buy at the bar, but to sip on is great. I introduced My. late mother to wood gate one Christmas Day and she liked it. I used to take a couple over to her after that. She preferred flat cider (she knew about scrumpy) so she told me she let the fizz out and just had a little bit at night. I’m just sorry I found H. Wesrerns after she passed. Nice review....cheers. It’s £1.15 in Lidl in England
Real Reviews Westons are one of the best i've found to date, the only better was Thatchers traditional, that was out the barrel in a cider bar in Bristol. It was like drinking apple juice but boy did it pack a wallop, i learnt a lot about respecting cider that night. Thanks for the comment, i'll raise a glass of something decent to you and yours. Cheers !
Westons currently £1.49 in Lidl in England Woodgate £1.29 Woodgate Devonshire cloudy script £2.79 x 4 500m! All good drinking - Westons is too but not for session!!
Matt Perry In wales they've introduced a minimum price per unit, thanks for rubbing it in ! luckily the boarder is only 30miles away, they havent set up a check point.......yet. Cheers !
If it says produced by Westons on the back then that’s an absolute steal and I’m jealous beyond belief !!! Thanks for posting people will be glad to know, next time I nip over the border, Oswestry, I’ll have a look and see if I can get some at that price, cheers !
@@ivehadworse7713 yes mate it clearly says crafted by westons at the back and it used to be £1.15 now 1.19. In fact I had 4 only yesterday 😁 from Lidl Ilford Essex
The Lidl offering compares (imo) much more closely with Waitrose's English Vintage Cider (also by Weston's) and, like Lidl's, also 7.3%, only costing a lot more whereas the Lidl version was just as good, if not better! I say "was", because I don't see this super-bargain anywhere on Lidl's shelves any more! Tragically, I think it's gone for the foreseeable. Obviously too good to last! 😞
Westons are by fare my favourite cider producer, that said I have a fantastic pint or three of Thatchers traditional in a pub in Bristol, straight out the barrel so to speak, cloudy as you like , bloody wonderful, kill head the next day but still. Thanks for the comments and feed back, very much appreciated, cheers !
@@ivehadworse7713 Sounds good, mate. I've had proper scrumpy a few times back when beer (& cider) festivals were still a thing and really enjoyed it -- fascinating stuff. (I found a key thing is to start with cider, if having any, rather than mix with beer later on in order to avoid possibly throwing up!) Having said that, I just got in some "Somerset Scrumpy" from Lidl (£2.49 for 4x440ml cans) -- which I do not expect to be the same thing! Cheers! 🥂
I'm not sure if it's nationwide, but the shelves were full at Lidl in Eastleigh, Hampshire last night. I had two bottles with my fish n chips and will be back for more.
@@misterhumpf7677 The 7.3% stuff? Really?! There's been no sign of it at my Lidl (Holloway) for very many months -- so it would be a very welcome miracle to see it reappear.

Hi , it’s on my list ! I really like the range of beer you can get at Lidl and Aldi, for the price they are excellent. I believe Lidl are having an Alpine week and will try to get hold of some of the ‘festival beers’ , cheers and thanks for the recommendation!
@@ivehadworse7713 i will have a look at there alpine range too bud but yeah they both do a great range also aldi do a coffee stout that is really good too 😁🍻👍🏻
too true, Woodgate vintage is much better then the rest of the Woodgate range, although to be honest I haven't reviewed their Devonshire scrumpy cider yet.
I suspected as much but was still a little surprises to find it on the back in black and white. Aldi and lidl use a lot of brand producers, I'm sure most supermarkets do, it wasn't long after this that I started to blind taste them, now that is interesting.

One of my favourites Westons vintage and so easy drinking for the alcohol percentage.
Ngamer834 its by far one of the nicest i've tried, I prefer old Rosieas as i like a drier cider, both cracking.
"You could really make a fool off yourself with this one" loved how you summed that up lol
Drinking the westons vintage as we speak my God it's strong stuff but my favorite

Westons used to make one for Sainsbury's as well - which we may well do - which was rather nice, but in 750ml bottle
Morrisons also do a Westons made own brand in a 2.25 litre box for about 5.50. Only 6.7ish, but flat, drier and got a proper agricultural tang. It's really good, if you like the more rough cider side of things
I like the Lidl Woodgate because of its low carbonation and I think the taste is superb not acidic. A regular purchase.
Henry weston is my drink of choice now, Im a uni student and it’s easy to drink for the ABV
The woodgate is drinkable, better than strongbow...but the Weston's is an outstanding premium cider...very strong though!!!!
Completely agree with your comments. 👍 Love decent cider!

Good review, Weston's vintage is certified 😎
For me Woodgate is slightly watery and closer to Signature Vintage then 8,5% version.
i visit westons on a year basis love the mortimers orchard
Going from Henry westons to a canned strongbow is like night and day. Strongbow tastes like water after you've had a westons
