  • Just a quick one from the cutting room floor...
In the long video I uploaded yesterday I mentioned the particular gear tooth profile used in watchmaking (i.e cycloidal teeth). In this short (I promise!) video I use that custom feature to create a reference sketch which I then use to finish the cannon pinion.
Join me behind the scenes for another of my single-take rehearsals for demos that I am prepping for, test-driving new concepts, or generally practicing. Usually recorded late after all my normal work is done, you might enjoy some of the tips and tricks I hope to offer.

Hi Greg, your video on the 6497 is a wonderful demonstration into the capabilities of Onshape, I especially love your parametric approach with the construction geometry defining the component layout. I'm a new Pro user and am thrilled with the software so far! I tried to find the FeatureScript you demo'd for these cycloidal gears but nothing turned up, perhaps I'm searching incorrectly? Can you point me in the right direction? Thank you for your help and time!

Thanks so much for the message here - there's much more to come for this 6497 project - I've probably got another video to cut in the next few days as there's been a ton of progress. Since it is becoming a bit of a test-bed for techniques and approaches, I'm trying to clean things up before I do share it. (My intent is to make this a public doc in the near future).
As to your question, the custom feature I wrote is not one in public circulation yet - it's part of the development/experimentation associated with this particular model so I don't feel it is in general enough shape just yet. Again this is something I'll have to think about cleaning up in the near term! I've got nothing to hide, just want to make sure the obvious mistakes have been corrected!
Anyway, great to have you onboard as an Onshape user, hope to see you around!

This is a cycloidal gear. What you are thinking of is a cycloidal drive.
