  • A London Underground vid from 2006 now, showing D & C Stock at work at Wimbledon, Wimbledon Park and East Putney. The refurb D Stocks had started to appear but most were still in red front unpainted aluminium livery at this time. If you liked the video please subscribe to my channel, there are lots more transport & quirky vids to upload!

i used to go to and from school between parsons green and wimbledon between 2010-2015 so i never saw an unpainted d or c stock but for me its more interesting to see how the areas have changed in the past 15 years

I'm pleased to assist! I remember the D stock new, and even the C stock only a few years old. At East Ham they shone in the early 70s although i always enjoyed riding on the red CO/CP or while R Stock trains more.....

The C Stock did the Wimbledon to Edgware road route as the platforms north of High Street Kensington were too short for the D Stock.
C Stock aslo did the Circle and Hammersmith and City lines.

And C Stock also worked to Wembley Park! At one time Neasden had a small number of C stock trains stabled there every night. I once had a storming run with one on the Met Main to Wembley Park, probably doing around 50mph!

I used to drive the C and D stocks. The C stock was great for trying to stop on the mark using the Westinghouse brakes! The D stock was my favourite though. Much more comfortable! Sadly left before the new stock came into service - I'd love to have had a go driving it!

I have driven all the surface stock (un-officially as a guard) from R stock through A, C and D stock. The A60s were brilliant, especially storming through Wembley Park at 70mph on a fast Amersham!

I came to london for the first time in dec 2007 just before the last of the unpainted d stock had disappeared. Sadly that makes it highly unlikely that I ever got to ride one in its more or less original condition but nevertheless I still had great memories of riding these spacious, stylish and rugged machines during my single digit years. The very last had gone by the time I was 11 after which we were left with those boring, unstable and uncomfortable s stock which have nothing special or unique to offer...

You will be collecting an old age pension before those bloody awful units get withdrawn! They are going nowhere soon. The Picc will get the next lot of new trains and supposedy the Central next as the 92 stock is in bad shape so the Bakerloo will soldier on until the 2030s with the 72s!

@@SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus lol everywhere you hear about them 😂, I'm 22 though I shall say this, respect the 72's for at least being the last real classics cruisin around, you may think differently once they're out, Iove the NTFL's already though just look how far those originals have come, maybe not the same quality of even its earlier twins, though it certainly is authentic metro cammell, it's good to know they will be here through the 2030's, it will be like a heritage trip for everyone 😁

@@SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus yes the 73's are indeed very good, though are a different thing from what they use to be, in a good way, the refurbishment took decades out of them, they feel much newer than they actually are, so is a completely different experience from the 72's and are indeed doing very well even now, months ago I would be heading to LHR every Friday after college in the last 2 years to see the Jetliners, so I'm very fond of the 73's and it's actually growing on me, I really like them, perfect mix of classic and modern 😊🌠🌟

They were good trains. When they were new they certainly looked space age compared to the old R & CO/CP stocks they replaced. The lack of door width was never a problem in the past, with 4 big doors each car they were great at hoovering up passengers. The 'narrow doors' only came from London Underground when they wanted to get rid of them and needed an excuse having spent money refurb'ing them in the not too distant past!
