What I came away from this was, "Holy cow! There was a web-spinning Spider-man figure????!!!!" How did I never know about that? I remember the fluid tubes and shooter, but never knew there was a figure too. And I never got those webs to look like they show in the commercial.
For the magnetic Batman I remember there was a label somewhere that warned not to attach the figure to household appliances like the fridge for fear of scraping off the paint.😬 C'mon, that was the only place in my home I could stick my figure to!😤
I got one of these for my birthday when I was little. I don’t know if I should’ve had what was then 40 year old mego stuff at such a young age(I can’t find most of that stuff anywhere in my house anymore) but I loved the old mego stuff growing up and mego museum was a website I used to love to go on as a little kid. I also had some other mego stuff back then as well such as a carrying case and a fist fighting Batman.
@@BrickMantooth Between that and the Super Powers Batman as my favourite figure of all time. Hadn't realised there were so many variants... wish I still had my Batman, Robin, Superman and Hulk I had as a kid... I do have a 12" Batman now, but he's in need of renovation!
I had that one for xmas long long time ago... ( CHILE ) ... and it was my fav toy ever... afterrr he vanish .. ive found another one in 1996 ... I still got it, missing just the cape and belt... Now i understand why i cant find hi again.. always checking ebay and never seen one for sale. well now i know.. my fav toy its unique and rare... cheers for the info.!
Thanks for another great video on Mego superhero history. I've was lucky to find two versions of the 12" Batman and their boxes. I often find the toy first, then the box! I also have the 12" Robin and the rare 9" version. They have been in my collection for years. Sorry to hear of your unfortunate encounter with that customs agent- what an anal orifice. Keep up the super videos.
I'm guessing some of the appeal was that it was plastic while most toys that got that big often had plushie bodies? Definitely think the magnets add a lot, wish more toys used them.
So did the Tonka hostile takeover super discount plan end up costing me go the marvel and DC licenses? Because in less than three years Kenner would be making the Super Powers Collection. You have to wonder what the mid 80s would have been like with Tonka and Mego being the same company.
Mego had a slew of problems in the early 1980s that resulted in them releasing the license. I wouldn't say the Tonka deal was directly responsible but it didn't help. Mego's going bankrupt in early 1983 was the big one.
I love how on this Batman-related video, an unabashed ape-lover comes in announcing: "I still have all my apes! Apes 4 ever!" This is not a criticism, I just love that it's happening.
@@brotherkellymatthewbarnes8882 Well yeah, some bad decisions and investments into the wrong product lines coupled with their president getting removed, really were the nails in the coffin.
You put fun in my dreadful work weeks, I enjoy your videos so much, thank you!
Thank you so much for saying that, it means a great deal to me.
Love that 2nd issue box with the new art. Don't think I've seen that before.
It really sort of flies under the radar.
My cousin had the magnetic Batman and Robin. I have many fond preschool memories of playing with those figures.
I throughly enjoy each deep dive into toy history! Loved my magnetic Bat-Man and Robin!
thank you!
I’m surprised that customs agent didn’t rip open your figures or tear the heads off to look for contraband. You’re very lucky 😂
That is true.

I always liked the head sculpt for magnetic Batman it just feels more comic like

I had the Magnetic Batman. Carried it with me everywhere.
Love the 12" mego Batman

I wish I could find a loose non-magnetic 12" with the magnetic-type head! That is just a supremely cool-looking figure.
I feel that story at the end...but I also think you wouldn't get that reaction now (seems like everyone's a Batfan...)
I had the Batman with removable cowl.
(That was an 8-inch figure, and Mego's first Batman!)
No Mego box would be complete without some 'Clunk'
I swear that I saw the 1980 Batman at a store here in Michigan

Cool 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
thanks!
I would like a 5'8 1974 Linda Carter Wonder Woman... Probably not one available anywhere 🙂😌
Do 12 inch Superman if you can

So Mego sank Mego?
The superhero sales weren't the problem but Mego's demise had little to nothing to do with Star Wars, despite the popularity of that narrative.
@@BrickMantoothI will rephrase:So putting Star Wars aside, did Mego cause themselves their own downfall?
