You're the only Vermintide content creator I've seen that does actual gameplay commentary that isn't just a bunch of shouting and play by play shotcalling. I love how chill and calm you always are in every situation. Keep up the great vids!
Thanks! Some of the older videos when I first started are a little dull but I think I'm getting better at the commentary as I do more. Glad you're enjoying them.
Sott is so good, especially on premades. My friends and I were doing cata double legend chest deeds, I lift every elite I come across, it carried us so hard.
on the subject of the elven axe, i don't think the problem is with the axe itself. rather its the fact that kerillian basically has no ranged anti-horde weapons to serve as a foil to it. In theory hagbane takes this role, but it's design effectively comes from a completely different game. The game the hagbane shortbow was designed for no longer exists. it does pitifully low direct damage, the aoe is small, and the aoe damage is even weaker. these wouldn't be a problem if you could just fire off multiple shots to effectively tag groups with multiple stacks of poison. Yet it has less ammunition than the longbow. meaning its an anti-horde weapon that isn't effective against hordes unless you use multiple arrows yet you can use it less often than any of her elite killers. it has the same amount of ammunition as kruber's blunderbuss and bardin's grudge-raker for god's sake. Both of which hit both elites and hordes harder. This makes the weaknesses of the axe shine even more brightly and feel all the worse for it. compare this to the other characters with weapons that have zero cleave. sienna is flushed with anti-horde ranged options to pair with the crowbill. bardin has the flamer, the grudge-raker, and to a lesser extent the drake pistols for his 1-h axe, saltz has the duck-foots, the repeater crossbow, and to a lesser extent the repeater pistol. all of which are better anti-horde either due to damage or spamability compared to the hagbane. And it's really sad, because a simple increase in ammo to something like 30 or 35 would make it infinitely better. It definitely wouldn't be a show stopper but is would absolutely become more useable and sit comfortably at the table of choices
I agree with your assessment but I want to add that I've seen a couple Waystalkers make use of the Hagbane bow to devastating effect, and just about near trivializing the Cataclysm games I played with them. They are outliers in a pool of players I've come across, but from what I've witnessed, it would appear with the right skill and knowledge, Hagbane on Waystalker can be made more effective than even Battle Wizard at clearing hordes and large packs of enemies, while also maintaining a deadly threat against specials, all at greater range than any other career. So really, the way I see it, is it comes down to how you vibe with the weapon, and if you can picture and foresee exactly where you need to land those shots to achieve the most effective devastation it is capable of. Outliers they are though. I think your assessment is the general consensus of skill most people have on the matter and I fall into that category as well. I can't make Hagbane work the same way I've seen those certain people utilize it. One of the things I like to say is not every weapon is going to be good for everyone, but every weapon has at least someone who is good with it. Perhaps that's what Fatshark intended for some weapons when they designed/balanced them the way they did.
@@CataTide while i agree that waystalker can make great use of the hagbane, i'd argue that's an effect of the waystalker and how powerful she can make any ranged weapon. In the case of the hagsbane its because she ignores all the downsides of it. and while agree that some weapons are designed with singular careers in mind, i do not think this is the case with the hagsbane and waystalker. firstly because it is available to all her careers but primarily because both the shade and the waystalker have unique interactions with it via talents. waystalker with ricochet and shade with exploit weakness. The latter specifically mentioning poisoned enemies. of which only one source is available to shade of my knowledge: hagsbane. this tells me that they meant for hagsbane to be generally usable by all careers with some having options geared towards it, but failed to achieve that. With the only remnant of usability being by waystalker due to her ability to flat-out ignore ammo shortages via kurnous' reward and theoretically getting up to 4 poison cloud procs per arrow via ricochet
@ O it's most certainly because of how Waystalker buffs up all her ranged weapons that she uses that makes Hagbane particularly effective on her, you don't need to argue that. It sounds like you agree with what I said in the video, that the Elf has mostly anti-armor/anti-large weapons in her repertoire. Which is why I mention why I love Dual Swords for clearing hordes because that's what I tend to struggle with when I play Elf, and let whatever ranged weapon I bring do most of the anti-armor damage, since Dual Swords struggle in that department themselves. Since you got me curious to theory craft some other builds you can use with Hagbane on careers besides the obvious Waystalker...You can try Shade with Exploit weakness and still make use of it as a general do everything ranged weapon. Run Bloodfletcher talent to get ammo back on backstabs, and Hungry Wind for an extra 15% power, for a total of 35% increased damage with it. Run Barrage on the bow for even more increased ramping damage. You might not be getting a bunch of procs like Waystalker can with ricochet, but you should still be able to deal significant enough damage to take large groups of enemies down and especially use it to deal damage against Monsters still. Hungry Wind's ability to pass through enemies should also help you proc Fletcher to get ammo back more easily. I just came up with this build on the spot so I'm not sure how good it could actually work, but it doesn't sound like it's too bad. I'll have to try it out in a game later. www.ranalds.gift/heroes/9/223332/26-8-1-6/62-4-5-1/3-2-1/3-1-2/2-3-1 You can maybe run a build with Sister of the Thorn too. Use Brair's Malice, for guaranteed crits after using your Thornwake, maybe using Tanglegrasp thicket to get nice big clumps of enemies. And with Lingering Blackvenom talent, the Hagbane shots will crit on this huge group of enemies you've just tangled up, and explode in a secondary aoe for even more damage and apply your passive perk for increased damage. Run Bonded Spirit, or Incandescence, whichever flavor you prefer to get more ability casts to proc more crits. Run Scrounger on the bow since you are guaranteed crits to get some ammo back and keep doing your combo. I'll definitely try this out in a game later as well. www.ranalds.gift/heroes/18/233222/23-8-1-6/62-4-5-6/3-2-1/3-1-2/1-3-1
yea, i absolutely agree that elf focuses perhaps a bit too much on anti-large/armor. id actually go conservative shooter on shade. scoring consecutive headshots whenever possible. the ammo gen of fletcher is just too low and inconsistent. its a toss-up between exquisite huntress and exploit weakness for me. im not sure the extra 20% is enough to reduce the number of damage ticks needed to kill infantry units hit by the indirect damage of the aoe by any meaningful degree. but i'd have to test this out. meanwhile exquisite huntress helps take down elites while doing damage to all the infantry around them. im not sure if the extra damage from exquisite huntress would apply extra tick damage to the aoe poison or not or just the direct poison damage of the arrow. again, needs some testing. as for sott, id go ironbark thicket instead of tanglegrasp. as enemies will actually push themselves tightly against the thicket and the poison goes through it to the other side. an absolutely great way to stop a horde in its tracks with sott hagbane.
update: exquisite huntress does increase the poison tick damage on the direct arrow hit, but not on the aoe poison cloud exploit weakness increases both direct hit poison damage and aoe poison damage. whether or not by a relevant degree I still need to test.
There's more than a 1000 combinations of careers, builds, and maps I haven't done yet and I'm planning on going through as many as I can without burning out. I still wanna have fun when I play them and not seem like I'm trying to force myself. I haven't done Parting of the Waves yet, but I do have a game of Trail of Treachery I've done with Battle Wizard already if you're interested. ruclips.net/video/IQXCPynKj6Q/видео.html
