*Raise your hand if you're here after watching Rick Beato's video* I've always loved the song. But now I feel it's a serious dare to learn how to play it. Challenge accepted.
I just tried on keyboard. Gave up after the second modulation lol.
@@XMguy No, you'll get there. Try it tomorrow, next week, etc. You'll be surprised at what you can do. That's how I approach pieces like this now. I'd die if I tried this all in one shot. Break it up in chunks as well
@@jonnuanez2843 Thanks. :). Once I figure out the modulation changes up or down, then chords, then perhaps. lol I’d do better on guitar since I’m still learning piano. Where I’ve been playing guitar for over 10 years. But this song gives me an absolute run for my money.
@@XMguy I'm learning it on guitar as well. You learn a song like this, and a song by Yes or Rush will be child's play lol.
@@jonnuanez2843 Thanks. Good luck. :)
I am in a time machine! Whos with me?
I'll drive the bus. We'll only go one way. Once we get there. We'll stay for good lol
No Fr.
If you didn’t live this era, you were born too late babies. 70s and 80s ruled
Raise your hand if you love this..
Big Brazilian man! He is a Brazilian musician. His career took off with worldwide hits by his band Brasil '66. He has over 55 releases and plays bossa nova heavily crossed with jazz and funk. He was nominated for an Oscar for Best Original Song in 2012 as co-writer of the song "Real in Rio" from the animated film Rio.
Mendes, a Brazilian musician, is primarily known in the United States, where his albums were recorded and where most of his touring took place.
Omg this song hit hard even in 2024❤
Real talent. 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
The most beautiful and complex pop song ever
The singing is flawless. This is pure art
Rick Beato brought me here, with a new appreciation of the complexities of the arrangements and progressions somehow coalescing into the sonic joy it was!
Same
Same here
I'd pay good money to see video of Ricks band failing at this song at some kiddie venue
Yes!
Ditto.
RIP Cynthia Weil. Great Songwriter.
70's, 80's and 90's songs are the best!
Joe Pizzulo's voice is amazing! He really hit the higher notes!
I'm here cause Rick Beato yet again introduced me to another banger

Today's music cannot compare to anything that we had in the 1960s, 70s, and 80s. Songs like this live on forever!
You're soooooo right.
Amen to that 😃✌️
@Malayna Petersen Nowadays there is noooo music in the mainstream
Lucky to find more than 3 chords in today's music. Even luckier to hear a cymbal crash.
*Indeed Kathleen! No comparison at all. See (unlike today) you had to actually have Talent & Skill to get in the door....otherwise they met you at it, pat you on the back, and sent your punk a.. home.*
*This is the epitome of music and song writing at its best...and the times thereof stood the same. I miss them, smh. 80's FOREVER!*
I was born in 90’s. Yet, these types of songs made me appreciate old songs more and more.
Pizzulo is way under rated, daamn, what a voice, 2024 and still love it
My grandmoter used to play this song... Classic.
I'm old enough - I remember watching this Live On Solid Gold. I remember watching that show. Love this song! Can't believe I'm so old :/
You ain't the only one. I saw this on Solid Gold back in the 80s when it first aired LIVE. Beautiful performance. Unfortunately they didn't sing the entire song which sucks. Not sure why they did that. 🤔
I was holding my breath while Joe Pizzulo is hitting the high notes haha! What a wonderful voice, a rare gem indeed. ❤️
Love this song, it brought back memories ❤❤❤❤❤
Growing up,you always heard " 'Never gonna let you go' by Sergio Mendes" whenever song was played on radio. They never mentioned the singers' name
Who’s here because you love this song! Not because you saw a video by Rick Beato .
The harmony is unbelievably complex, what a composer
I was probably six or seven when I first heard this on some "Top 20 Two Part Disc Set" for like $20 back in...probably 2000 or so, and man this song has stuck DEEP in my core memories and remains in my top 5 favorites of all time. Legendary
Orgulho dele ser do nosso RJ
Joe Pizzulo’s voice is phenomenal!
Yes it is! Very rare.
Still singing today, Joe is amazing ❤
I think he is singing the high harmony in the duet part
❤❤❤ I love it😊
Yes he definitely has range, but I thought ( I believe the girls name is Leeza ) is good too and complements him well
Don't forget to mention Joe Pizzulo and Leeza Miller. They made this song magical with their voices.
I can't stop listening to songs I grew up on and loved so much. Miss those days ❤❤❤
Joe Pizzulo's voice is a masterpiece. It's really one of the nicest male voices ever heard in my life.
Shame he didn't have a bigger career.
@@MuzixMakerHe was a studio musician in LA and was actually a back up singer for the Solid Gold band that musical director Michael Miller put together.
Oh yes, I definitely agree 💯 %.
Especially in the song "Take This love".
Agreed and he makes it look incredibly effortless. Just wow I was knocked off my boots when I heard him sing this live in another clip.
Respect! This is real music!
I'm with you on that 💯
2020 still listening to this song..

I'm never gonna let this music go . Very beautiful complex almost unbelievable. Thanks Rick Sergio Joe Liza. And the writers and arrangers.😊
I’m an old soul love those old songs who’s listening April 2024
Rick Beato make me appreciate this song. truly genius composition and pop masterpiece at its finest
Few people understand the complexity of this masterpiece… Sergio Mendez is a musical genius! I highly recommend listening to his catalogue of music.
Well, Sergio didn't write this song, Cynthia Weil and Barry Mann did.
Yeah, I'm here because Cynthia Weil (one of the actual writers) passed away days ago.
This song was allegedly originally intended for Earth, Wind & Fire. Dionne Warwick was the first to record it.
@@quentinkaasa47I'm actually surprised Earth, Wind, and Fire rejected it. It would have been very appropriate for their style of music. I'd like to have heard their own take on this amazing song.
A Master Piece.
Incredible...
Mendes please.
Sang by: Joe Pizzulo and Leeza Miller. Not sure why the singers are hardly given credit for this masterpiece.
Like in David Guettas work.. here the composers/producers work is the hilight.... Same for an opera, the composer is the star (Usually).
Oh my god! Promise I thought Sergio Mendez was the one who sung this! Waaa
Me too!
Jajajajajajajaja
Thank you! I always wondered who the voices belonged to! (I think Sergio is on keyboards.)
Amazing voices, fantastic song. The good old times.
Ya'll gotta check out Rick Beato's breakdown of this song!
Beato brought me here 2 lol
I was just checking that out! Ricks the best.✌️
I was just thinking the same thing!
Yup!

True and beautiful words! I wish too a time travel to let me on 80''s!😥

I TOTALLY AGREE with you. This song and songs like this are timeless classics. I wish they all made a comeback. I have a gut feeling that our young generation would love these songs and appreciate them. I say this because my 16 and 18 year old daughters know these songs cuz of me and they love it and sing with me.
Well said

It is great to have a singer who can follow these sudden key changes with ease
Didn't knew how complex this song was till Rick Beato broke it down.

it's just a lot of modulations but it's not that different from other 80's pop
Rick Beato can move people to be moved by this lovely song!
Look up the song on Wikipedia and you'll see Rick's name mentioned.
Same here. Not only that, I never knew it was Sergio Mendes.

Such a complicated musical arrangement I almost expect the band members to explode after playing those final musical notes 🎉
I heard this is the most complicated pop song ever.
Wat
Probably you heard the truth. Few pop songs have a so intrincate harmony structure.
That's probably not true. Some of Burt Bacharach's tunes are much more complicated.
@@direfranchement
I'd doubt it, have you seen Rick Beato's analysis of this song? The reason most people are here recently.
@@DerEchteBold Its really not complicated though and Rick says as much in his actual analysis. It just has a lot of key changes. Most phrases are just a series of descending 2 5s. The wacky part is the key changes, but even then, they still make sense, there's just a lot of them.

Sergio Mendes is on the piano btw. It took me 40 years to realize this.
O cara consegue ficar a frente do Girl of Ipanema na Billboard
That is the best lip syncing I have ever seen. It doesn't take away from the voices or production it's just the studio track played like they even do on Soul Train. Great song over the top.
thought it was mush when I was a kid; now see the brilliance and beauty as an aging soldier of love

One of the earliest love songs I remember hearing on FM radio as a lil kid in 1983 🥰
Im just 32, a singer song writer and musician myself, never lived in the 80s, but i think its not far from the truth when i said this is the greatest Ballad ever written, first heard this when i was 10, since then i was hooked. And oh btw, Sergio Mendes is pure genius. A hero of mine 💪
Sergio smiling throughout cause he know he just produced an all time pop song
- vender
- idiotizarte
Now i'm 47 and still love this song... 70's & 80's songs and artists are legends...

It's sad how the music industry in incapable of making music like this anymore.
It certainly can. But it won’t. Unfortunately people aren’t clamoring for this kind of music anymore.
Let’s keep it alive.
Nowadays they patrionize broken songs if not devilish music just to capture genZ and earn millions! Musics of before has more substance and meaning!
Because now is more DIY. In the past really was the industry, a group of writers and producers.
I can't blame the industry, its the artists.
@@ebonpaladin It's the industry that is pushing these no-talent pretenders on the public with their garbage that passes as 'music' these days. I miss real talented artists with integrity and real music that anyone of any age could enjoy.
