Yes! I’ve been tying the bowline that way since 1978 when a Ranger buddy showed me how to tie it faster than the traditional method. Super convenient because in Ranger school - and throughout the Army - you use that knot all the time.
When you tie it that way people who learned the ‘traditional’ method always do a double take; then they ask you to show them how to do it!

What if you’re working side is tight or heavy ? Or if you have stiff rope

Nice demonstration. Makes this seem simple.
Can you show it from the other perspective as if its a rescue knot?

Simple, wrap the rope around your waist. Take the long end and make a slip knot. (An overhand not without pulling the tail end through.)
Then take the tail end and pass it through the eye of the slip knot. Then pull the slipknot as if you were going to "make it disappear. The eye will tighten on the tail end creating your bowline.
