“November 19, Revised Edition” is an arrangement of the piece with the same title first released in 2017 by utilizing the motif of the original piece.
The title “November 19” is a reference to the day November 19th, 1863, on which former President of the United States Abraham Lincoln delivered a speech at the dedication of the Soldiers’ National Cemetery in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. This speech is commonly known in translation as “a government of the people, by the people, for the people.”
“April 9, 1865” portrays Lincoln reflecting on something while watching the sunset in the aftermath of the Civil War. This scene is depicted by a flute duo with a melancholic melody that is passed on to the woodwind section. As the magnificent first half of the piece unfolds with the entry of the brass section, it leads into “April 12, 1861,” a recollection of the Civil War. It has been said that this war is the first time in history when modern mechanical technology was deployed in warfare. The hi-hat’s rhythm and the clarinet’s phrases create tension in this section which proceeds at a fast tempo to depict scenes from the Civil War.
This is followed by the Gettysburg Address in the section titled “November 19, 1863.” Despite being an extremely short speech comprising 272 words and 1449 characters in total and lasting only around 2 minutes, this is Lincoln’s most famous speech and has been the most referenced speech in past presidential speeches. Along with the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States, the Gettysburg Address is a speech that occupies a special place in American history. In that era where microphones did not exist, the cameraman did not realize that Lincoln’s speech had begun, and by the time he finally attempted to take a photo, it was already over. The speech did not gather much attention at first as it was delivered in a soft voice similar to that of a prayer, but it became famous subsequently after a reporter who had happened to write it down by chance published it as an article.

今年コンクールでやる方、昔やった方、私トランペットなんですが、ぜひアドバイスください！
この曲が作られた次の年に当時中学生で原曲の方を吹いた音大生です!!
最初のゆったりのところは優しく柔らかく吹きました。
場面が変わったあとからはスタッカート以外は音符を長めに力強く、音が短いところは鋭く吹きました。
最後の方のゆったりのところは音楽の流れに乗って感情的に吹くと聴いている側は感動します✨指揮者の方の振り方にもよりますが音楽の横の流れが大きく動く場面なので身体を使って音楽を表現するとより良いと思います。
テンポが上がった最後のところは原曲と違うのであまり分かりませんが、場面の雰囲気によって音色や音形を研究してみてください😊
