    Watching the replay of this from the opposing team, and I am absolutely delighted by their teamwork and communication. Frumbis gets wiped out in Drongo's push, but the team stays together and commits to the game. Frumbis asks for a T1, and someone just gives it to them. Fast forward to when Drongo shows his hand with the nuke storm, and the whole team is worrying about being unable to keep up with the anti-nukes, and FRUMBIS SAVES THE TEAM. pillow starts spamming anti-nuke units for the whole team and deploying them to the backline.
    TnB87113 is a great team player. Gives units and resources left and right. Keeps the other players in the game when bad shit happens. Keeps reinforcing the weaker players to allow them a fighting chance to hold their side.
    Armadillyo is wise to Drongo's disguise and tactics. The use of that one stealth bomb got the team the scouting information they needed to realize the bomber ploy was coming, so the whole team got AA up ASAP.
    By the time Drongo does the next wave of nukes, there are 26 prevailers, 13 umbrellas, and 17 citadels loaded up on the winning team. Also, the moment they saw the bombers there was heavy flak deployed basically everywhere.
    They start identifying and scouting the few remaining commanders then targeting those exclusively. They specifically identify Drongo's last remaining borrowed commander and target him with skuttles.
    Excellent communications and a lot of encouragement and material support between team members.

    Not giving energy "because what is he gonna do with it" is such a bad move. 6k energy is 12 dguns, or 6 seconds of cloak on a commander. It can be the difference between stalling for 30 secs or finally finishing that fusion. You have 2 afus already, your frontline doesn't even have a single fusion up, so it is totally justified that they ask for energy. Not that you cannot just build 2 energy storage and give it to whoever asks, so they can have more than 6k.

    Id like to address that "i need energy" statement. You said "what you are going to do with it". Well, for you with 2 AFUS up, its one second production that you will not miss. For a front line player, that might be difference between eco stalling for a minute and not having a problem. Typically when you really need to finish an power plant. So, you are wrong there, and you are way too greedy to be a good team player, if you dont understand this. One man trash, another man treasure.

      @@sneediumminer ...and if he actually kept up the pressure instead of building excessive nukes for the lulz they could have won. The game can be summed up as three chapters...
      1. Drongo builds eco, team slowly loses front.
      2. Drongo builds a push that helps his team to get back into the game.
      3. Drongo gets one nuke through, thinks the opposing team is too stupid to catch on and decides to waste rest of the game building more nukes that get hard countered despite never getting even close to a value target thereafter.

  • @KAClown
    @KAClown Год назад +30

    With nukes, if you're going to try to overwhelm then you need to focus down the anti-nukes; they become your prime targets. Getting one nuke to land means that the next round can go through. Your targeting practice on the blue sea player was correct for when you have limited or no scouting of anti-nuke capabilities of opposition; your are more likely to find gaps and "get lucky" by spreading your targeting like that than if you focus all your nukes what a dozen times on the same back line player (aiming for the edge of the map would have been more likely to find a gap than aiming center of where you think their base is).
    Also, when your team mates start folding, you need to do a lot better about delegating resources rather than trying to single-handedly win. The whole team ended up folding around you; you asked for those coms, but you didn't use them effectively (you used them for the d-guns but not for re-establishing team economy), and you ended up making like four or five players sit around waiting on you to die. Less greed and self-centeredness would do you well particularly around 10 to 20 minutes in and definitely 30 to 50 minutes in. You were gnashing teeth about giving the player that called for energy resources, but you could have given thousands of energy, and it wouldn't have mattered to you, but it may have made the game for them.
    I think that something you should contemplate is where the breakpoint is that you can afford to just throw down a fusion and an advanced energy converter for each of your team mates (that you give them), and it costs you basically a rounding error of your economy. Especially for front players. Something else I noticed is that you make units that you could just give to the front and let them micro while focusing on what you're really good at which is the eco building. If I were in your position, I'd be throwing down a micro economy for each of my teammates that included one or more T1 labs or units like the Consuls at least, so they can continue to function even in the event of the catastrophic failure of their forward base, and if I saw teammate go down entirely then I'd make sure they are prioritized for getting a micro economy. Getting other players back into the game and keeping other players in the game is absolutely essential to winning games.
    Solo carry is a failure mode of last resort.

    • @Sorain1
      @Sorain1 Год назад

      I'd like to second this. Drongo only has one persons APM, and that's a muliplicative economic resource. Continuing to focus economy while throwing every player on the team an AFUS/Fusion and some ADMC's would have let the other players use their APM. Throwing guard forces to his allies to let them use them, handing out T2 when he got there. There were options to make better use of the economic lead he initially built up.

    • @KAClown
      @KAClown Год назад +10

      The team strategies between backline/midline/frontline need to evolve. The frontliners are always penalized by holding the line, and the back and mid lines don't seem to understand that there's a debt that they need to pay eventually and sooner than later. That debt isn't "selling T2" to the front line. At a certain point fairly soon into the game as a backliner especially, you need to be building infrastructure for the frontliners because they can neither afford to nor be effective at defending it. Drongo dropping a regular fusion and advanced energy converter for each of the frontliners (4 players in total with the 2 strait players being priority) would have completely changed the game. Those fusion and advance energy converters don't even need to be built anywhere near the frontliner's forward bases and are better served not being there; the space they'd take up near to Drongo's base (I'd put them between Drongo and the Red player) would be pretty much negligible.
      Drongo gets 6 AFUs up and doesn't begin to conceptualize how much having even one of those would absolutely change the frontline's game. Like sure, eco players need to scale, but there's diminishing returns on that due to the ability of people like Drongo to make split priority decisions. Delegation is the only sensible way forward in general. Either you build units for frontliners--for free--or you build infrastructure for them. Maybe you go "greedy" and every 9 things you build is for you and 1 for them, but what you absolutely don't do is take 1 of their things for every 9 things you build for yourself.
      What is given is generally multiplied.

    • @KAClown
      @KAClown Год назад +19

      @@rekrn12345 Yeah, the thing where he doesn't establish and keep multiple vectors of attack and progression is a weird quirk. I get the whole argument for early game reclaims and standing metal amounts for the expensive T2 and T3 factories, but there's a point around 20 minutes into the game where that all is a rounding error to your economy, and your time and energy is best spent on making sure that you're pumping out units and defenses or scaling rather than finicking about with where to place this or that factory or its support construction towers.
      The deployment of the excessive lines of flak were a nice start too for static defenses, but he didn't follow up by building static anti-ground defenses to back the flak. A lot of damage he took as his allies crumpled around him could have been mitigated or entirely stopped by him doing proper static defensive turtling around his base and his allies bases. ALWAYS grow the zone of control; the game is only truly lost when your team's zone of control is shrinking at the boundaries of the uncontested growing zone of control of the opposition.
      It is weird to me how the beginning to mid players think of the game as being about using one and only one unit type or attack strategy at a time. You're almost always expecting to be hit by every unit type and every attack strategy type over the course of any arbitrary game with an arbitrary number of players. This means that you should generally expect to start out with some unit type and attack strategy, but as the game evolves, you should always be expecting to diversify. Especially once you cross the 20 to 30 minute mark without decisive victories. Games that start to stretch towards the 45 minute to 60 minute mark or beyond practically necessitate anyone still standing has air, land, and water/hover capabilities simultaneously operating, and this becomes more true the fewer team mates you have standing.
      What serves players in the short games (30 minutes or less) is often a waste of time and effort in the mid to long games.

      They had a moderate amount of air prior to it, but they got early detection on the bomber gambit when they used a skuttle or bedbug to blow up some of Drongo's infrastructure. The whole team immediately scrambled to build excessive quantities of AA along side their nuke defenses. By the time Drongo committed the bombers, the team was prepared and waiting for the attack with three players having amassed planes specifically to deal with the air push. Drongo and Will's attempt absolutely exhausted the fighter screen of Armadillyo's forces and much of the airforce of pillow.

    Flaws; 1. Stopped building eco. 2. Dithered back and forth. 3. Reclaiming too much. 4. Lack of teamplay. 5. Lack of macro queues. 6. Fixation.
    1. When pivoting from eco to 'going online,' it does make sense to stop ecoing for a bit. You, however, stopped growing your economy for the rest of the game. That's a mistake, and one I think ultimately cost you this game as I believe raw economical power could have overcome your other flaws this game.
    2. You swapped focus back and forth, ultimately accomplishing nothing. You had no clear purpose in mind when doing the swap, either. Take going air as an example - you had no intended target, no identified weakness in the enemy team, and little commitment to actually playing air. Similarly, you had little commitment to actually playing ground. If you're not going to ensure your units have a good effect on the enemy, give them to someone who will, and draw enjoyment from watching your ally, your teammate, destroy the enemy with the units you gave them.
    3. Zealous reclaiming is a great idea in the beginning. It remains a great idea later on for larger investments of metal, such as for labs. You, however, take it too far. There is a finite resource you are not taking into account when doing your reclaiming: Time. It takes time to reclaim, and you need to think about whether the reclaim order is worth the time spent on it in two senses; First from the player perspective - where you already need to be doing a lot in the game, and the micro spent reclaiming may not be 'worth it' in opportunity cost - time better spent elsewhere. Second from the game perspective - where because it takes time to build infrastructure, if you foresee yourself using that infrastructure in the future it may be better to have it remain on the field than to spend the build time again later on.
    4. You can actually use teamplay to reduce the burden upon yourself. Like, for example, telling them to ask you for help if they need it, theoretically relieving you of looking at the frontline all the time. Practically, it's a moot point as you didn't do much looking at the frontline. If necessary, you can also think of your allies as ready-built labs, where if you just slot in some metal and energy they'll spit out units. So rather than building your own, you can just make use of the already built labs in your allies bases, though you might find the """ai""" to be a bit wonky at times.
    5. You keep doing micro orders, doing this, that, and the other individually, like some manner of artisan base-builder. This results in you stretching yourself too thin, and disallowing yourself from properly microing your units into battle because you constantly jump back and forth between base-building and fighting. You need to establish a macro build queue to give yourself the time to take in the larger strategic view, and to order your fighting units effectively. Putting it in the form of a question; Is there any difference between your constructor's AI blocking itself from building for a few seconds, and your constructors not building anything because you didn't give your units any long build queues? I think your narrow focus on avoiding one inefficiency results in another.
    6. You can tell how many antinukes a player has by how your nukes blow up. If they all blow up in sequence, they have one. If they blow up in parallel, they have multiple. Because of this, you can identify weak spots in enemy antinuke coverage by observing how your nukes are being blown up. To my eye the enemy looked to have three or more antinukes at the spot you decided to nuke for the rest of the game. It's like seeing someone double down on tic spam against multiple Juno's. Baffling.

    • @KAClown
      @KAClown Год назад +4

      The nuke observation is pretty good, but the second mass salvo of nukes met a wall of 13 umbrellas, 27 prevailers, and like three or four citadels. They massively fortified the top left backliner after Drongo almost hard reset the right side backliner. Most of the anti-nukes were piled up close together, so they hid their numbers by stacking the anti-nukes on top of each other.
      #2 in your list is really good point. Part of what goes on is I think Drongo gets fatigued around 30 to 45 minutes into the game. Intense early game tends to win him many games, but it means that when he plays long games he's burnt out by the time the window for the "easy" early wins has closed, and it means he has less practice with endurance trials in 8 v 8, so it is less clear what singular win condition will work other than "I built a world record lolcannon"; the lolcannon strategy basically stops being a decisive victory around 30 to 45 minutes in; similar to how a 5 minute nuke in speedmetal will win a game almost single handedly, but almost no amount of nukes will win straits after about 30 minutes.
      TnB and Pillow were really good contrasts to Drongo; they ended up having all kinds of different labs and were producing whatever it was that they needed at a given moment, AND they were constantly producing something. At one point, pillow had like 50 scouts swarming around that got ultimately sent towards Drongo's position and almost made it all the way. I think Drongo could learn a lot from TnB's team play in particular.

    I think a good backline eco player adjusts to the gameplay. As a backline you should be using T3, but if your frontline isn't holding T2 also does wonders for your team. Anti nuke is crucial for your backliners, so you should set it up in the middle between you both.
    So many players try to get an afus up as soon as possible. Go for the anti nuke first, ask the team if they want a t2 bot and get them to pay for it. It jumpstarts everyone that buys from you. Its even faster if you can get a transport and transport it to their bases.
    3 afus will spam maruaders easily, and depending on how your short beach is, you should cover that with a few marauders, and also the frontline shore with marauders, and help hold the mid with marauders, then if you want to play offensive you can. But the better you support your team the better the team does. By helping the front line you give the front line time to rebuild/repair/eco. By helping the short beach you help them rebuild/eco.
    4 thors was a good move, but you could have built so many marauders, switching to nukes means you lost your frontline/midline/short beach.

    As soon as those last volleys started and enough anti nuke charges all hit them at the same time that it was like an impenetrable wall, it was pointless to continue nuking that same spot. Anti nukes just build so fast that you need more than double the nukes to get through. Each anti nuke can stop something like 6 nukes on its own in one volley, and it can stock up to 20 ish anti nukes. Just 3 anti nukes is roughly enough for them to negate about 18 nukes for 4 or so volleys, and they had as many anti Nukes as you had Nukes. At that point you should have been aiming everywhere else. They put a ton of resources into anti-nukes on their backline, so they may have forgot to put enough of it everywhere else.

    Despite what the naysayers harp on about, i think that this could have been more helpful if the nukes had been more focused, earlier than 49 minutes, and you had continued to scale slowly on the back of it.
    Imagine if you had been able to support up to 40 silos, and were able to drill some of the anti-nuke coverage. I mean, if 6 nukes = 1 fully stocked anti-nuke, you could easily force the *entire* enemy team to have to build 7+ anti nukes, or get worn down and die.

The "don't trap yourself while building" thing is simple, but I'm positive it's an absolute slog to do. This was on a map with islands, fairly big and neither of us had figured out the tiering system.
    2nd game played out somewhat similarly, except we had gotten the tier understanding.
    3rd game was our first win, in short... What saved us was me investing in nukes and just running 2 silos on overtime and spamming oracles to scout for the Ai opponents' facilities.
    I guess from here on out, need to learn the eco and get that flowing correctly.

    When you're at a point in eco when you can pay for a new lab in a matter of seconds, then there's absolutely no reason to reclaim the labs you already have. Diversity is key, and having every lab at your disposal will help you transition strategies with less downtime.
    Also, you really gotta get over your OCD, man. There's zero, none, nada, no reason whatever to reclaim T1 converters. If you need space, build somewhere else. You're losing out on free metal.
    And for the love of God, build more than one T2 constructor. Metal is a sunk cost, but build power gives returns on investment. A second con would let you get all your T2 mexes up faster, as well as duplicate your build orders so you can build reactors and converters at the same time. You focus too much on reducing initial metal investment, when building faster is more important.
