I picked up a more Naruto vibe with Kouta being Naruto(only pursuing power for the sake of others once shit gets real) and Kaito being Sasuke(focused only on gaining power to further his own world view while being an arrogant douche)
I gotta say I disagree, with Kamen Rider Gaim being one of the better seasons of Kamen Rider. Its mature theme is a standout even among Kamen Rider series, which are generally more mature than their other tokusatsu cousins. I could be looking at the show through rose-tinted glasses, but the show lead writer is Urobuchi Gen, a legend among show-writing in Japan for his plot twist and having mastered the art of twisting something fun and light hearted into something more gritty and mature. The characters are consistent in writing for the most part, all with good setup and paid off. Takatora, Kouta, Kaito and Mitsuzane (unfortunately) all have good reasons for doing the things they did, and the audience could empathise with their action. Micchi having a redemption episode at the end being way better than he deserved. His writing came out strong in the show, although the kamen rider production formula did cause a lot of issues. Characters being bring back due to popularity reasons, the show being made to sell toys like all modern toku, the cross-over and advertising episodes all contributed into making what would have been an amazing season into just a great one. Also the show being primarily a children show also hinder how Urobuchi would usually write his show. If you didn't enjoy Gaim for having a mixed tone (which wasn't quite the fault of the show runners but the production company and the general expectation of toku shows in general) you might like Fourze and Ex-aid which are both crazy and fun shows. On the other end of the spectrum is Kamen Rider Amazon (the Amazon show, not the old Showa show) is truly dark, bloody and is targeted at adults, which had a great season 1 and a decent season 2.
Wow you're very passionate about Kamen Rider. It's been a while since I did this one yet I think I can remember my thought process... I just had issues on how certain episodes threw me off since I'm watching something turn dark one episode and then bam! It's really lighthearted the next. I can understand the sense of production meddling though. On one hand you want to respect the artistic direction of the show runners but you also have this obligation to the studios that just want to make money. It's a hard path to walk. I'll add your recommendations to the list of stuff I need to watch. Thank you for your response! X3

Definitely a really good review. I personally never watched Kamen Rider, but it kind of looks interesting and since 90s nerd me already watched the Power Rangers movie (FYI it is mostly terrible no surprise there), this might be worth checking out. I won't spoil the power rangers movie, but I will say it doesn't take itself seriously which is a good thing because it achieves the perfect level of 90s cheeziness that the show was known for. However, the first hour of the film isn't really that good at all and is just an edgy teenage film. Shame about May 13, I totally would've loved to come see you guys perform however I am away in Vegas that week...If you guys are doing another performance, let me know. I'd totally be interested in going to see you guys live.
The goal of A.R.R. (or at least mine anyway) is to expose the audience to subject matter that is primarily glossed over and leave them with enough information to get invested without ruining the series. I actually went to go see the Power Rangers Movie with Medium Mike, it was ok but I was expecting way worse. Although screw that one scene where no one tries CPR on the drowning victim. (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ I'll keep you in the loop, and thank you for supporting my videos. :3
Firstly, we have the same couch. I am not joking... The micro fiber one. Secondly, your reviews are delicious, for you arouse the same feelings I use to get when life was different, when I use to hit the 5 star restaurants in South Africa. The waiter would introduce the specialty of the evening, some brazen beef, or salmon with a pinapple salsa. I swear I am salivating. Your reviews are served up in a way which triggers my cravings. I suddenly have an urge for this, Godzilla, whatever that gummy was, and power Rangers. I will await your next review for desert...You are amazing. I am just glad you are not a waiter because I would be as fat as hell.
Honestly it hurt me when you said "subpar script" I believe this show deserves a 10. It's my personal favorite show. The writing, acting, and cinematography are superb. The effects (while I understand may be a deal breaker for some) don't bother me. The tone can be an issue, but it's mainly focused on Oren and Jonouchi. They're gag characters. Aside from that, this show is the first show (and the only one other than the last airbender) to make me really question my life and want to improve myself.
I'm glad this show is something you're so passionate about. I'm like that when it comes to Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War. Frankly there is no correct way to view art since a lot of people have different opinions. I enjoyed the show but felt like a lot of choices took me out of the immersion and thus made the show more difficult for me to get into it. I try my best not to destroy the subject I'm reviewing but at the same time, proper analysis requires me to ponder why something didn't work and what could have been done to make it better. Either way, thank you for watching my video. :3
@@SonicMTD oh I forgot to say that it was a very good video. I enjoyed it. At the very least I'm glad people are talking about the show. Anyways, keep up the good work.
I gotta say a big flaw with Gaim is how overused the Bow Weapon becomes. All the genesis driver forms use the bow and by the midpoint you have everyone using the genesis driver forms as they are so much stronger than normal arms. Its a good show and definitely one of Urobuchi's better works as he just has to apply his writing style to a preexisting formula and can't really lose himself in nonsense too much.
what makes that soccer episode worse is that it was just a tie in for the movie... in a way that didnt even mesh with the movie aside from the soccer world. Gaim had way too many episodes dedicated to advertising movie events
It really screws with the flow of the show cause as a viewer I kept worrying “Am I missing important story events and character growth by not watching these secondary shows?”.
@@SonicMTD right? Especially with the Kikaider one where Duke removes his brain and puts it in a robot body, just for it to end up back in his normal body by the next episode

considering WHO the main writer is for gaim it's actually disappointing. i'm someone who's just getting into kamen rider as well and so far i've finished two of the series. gaim and build. and honestly i find build to be so much more satisfying.
Im a long time kamen rider fan, and i can tell you that gaim is actually one of the sub par ones. Gaims big flaw is that that they when overboard on the toy advertising and made it fairly hollow, every lock seed was for sale and if you count those plus the ones that are just toys its excessive. add on that each rider had a belt with their face on it -you could get the plates for that part separate and all the weapon toys -there was a lot. The thing is the rider battles we the same over and over the plot as you pointed out repeated and worse of all there were very few different types of monsters. frequently they reused previous monsters and that was the biggest issue i had it was all the same -some kamen rider series have new enemies every 2 weeks -its a formate for the show that works 2 part stories building the larger story but gaim was all over. Plus the constant new power ups and weak villians who were dull as hell and we don't even know whats going on for most of the series
What would you recommend I should watch? I'm going to wait a fair bit before I review something Kamen Rider related however I wouldn't mind picking up something new.
Say something about the toy advertising being a flaw is not a valid criticism so lets get real. Subpar? its the best rider series so far not to mention if you couldnt follow along the story then you must have a small mind.
Kamen rider Gaim is basically a dmc for kids. Two men reaching out for power. One to change the world and one to conquer it for himself
Whoa I never thought of that!
Well kaito doesn't actually want to conquer it for himself. He wants to change the rules of society
