- Strat + Boss CE-2 into Fender Hot Rod Deluxe with TC Electronic Flashback in the loop on the tape delay setting. Worked out the parts by ear so it may not be 100%. Recorded into a haggard Tascam tape 4 track with a shitty tape. String gauge was 11's.
Small hours, hurt in your heart, sweet little mystery... 3 classics. couldn’t love you more and certain surprise among others are in the same tuning.
This is absolutely beautiful.
Great stuff. I love playing about with his tunings, but have no patience for learning tunes properly!
Huge Martyn fan, fantastic this 👍
This is fantastic! One of my favourites hurt in your heart. . You did it justice bro .
Beautiful tone
Sweet little mystery explained, loved it
Never seen any of these before jimmy, deadly sounds and the riff halfway trough is lovely
Thanks, men! I found tune song Sweet little mystery and you show me!
This is amazing, congratz!!
Wonderful stuff James
Lovely rendition lots of study gone in. I would suggest it is easier with an Ernie,Ball volume pedal or better still what JM used which was a Gibson Boomerang vol/wah pedal
That's really nice James.
That was sweet, man.
Thank you!
superb
Here are the chords you're missing from Hurt In Your Heart:
║0×0002║
║4×0000║
║5×0555║
And the rest if anyone's wondering (CFCCGD tuning)
║9×09910║
║7×0779║
║5×0557║
║4×0445║
║2×0223║
Great stuff James. Not long leant this tuning myself. Some great tunes to be learnt there. Respect.
Cheers! I see you have some great stuff up.. ive only scratched the surface of the JM tunings..
Beauté sonore
Spellbinding James
I made a similar effort with the GT100 - awesome sound man!
Cheers, yours sounds A1 with the drum loop 👍
@@jim_thom Thanks man :)
Great job sounds nice 👍
Nick Drake Tuning, solid Air was a dedication after Nick Drake's passing, also with it John Martyn who was a big Drake fan experimented with the tuning Nick used for allot of songs. But hey the tuning belongs to Music & I'm sure there are many artists before who used this tuning.
Are you sure nick drake used this tuning I’ve never seen a song of his that two of the notes you tune to see beside each other like CC Idk though
John got this tuning from another Scottish musician called Dick Gaughan .. it was originally a banjo tuning that John reworked .. nothing to do with Nick Drake I'm afraid 🤷♂️
yeaaaaa!!!!amazing
Awesome.
What type of electric guitar is that you have? Love the tuning and the playing. Have you many settings / extras doing the small hours effects - loved the lot! Thanks so much
🤔 It's a Fender Stratocaster. Probably an Olympic Withe.
You learned Sweet Little mystery song by some guitar tab or just by hearing? Can you record tutorial this song?
Marty Mcfly put this ideo on x0.25 speed and you can work out where he’s putting his fingers bro been trying to learn it too think I’ve got it just from doing that !
@@alanhughes2340 Ok. Thanks bro!
What effect pedal do you need to play this effect? Does it need to have a tape delay setting or is tap delay the same thing? Do you use a volume pedal for this sustain effect also ? Great cover mate well done
Hey. Any decent delay will be able to more or less do the job. I used the tape delay setting as i was trying to get close to an echoplex which is what John used. You can use a volume pedal, which is the way John did it. I used the volume knob on the guitar to fade in the chords as im just used to doing it that way and its handy on a strat. Cheers!
@@jim_thom What is the difference between tape delay and tap delay (tap tempo)? Are they the same thing? Sorry im still learning about pedals and effects. Are the smaller most recent ep1 and ep2 echoplex as good as the old vintage Ep3? Do they have have tape delay and loop on them? Thanks mate
@@nickyphillips7261 On the pedal i used (Tc Flashback) the tape delay setting is just a digital emulation of the old tape delays, it tries to mimic the warble/tape degradation on the repeats. Tap delay is as you said, tap tempo delay (digital also). I dont know anything about the actual echoplex models im afraid, hopefully at some stage!
Cheers!
@@jim_thom Thanks for the info mate. I dont have a delay pedal yet hopefully soon. Lots to choose from. The Tc flashback looks really good. Thanks for your help take it easy.
James Thompson to do this with the volume control manually 👏👏👏👏
Very nice. Which Flashback?
TC Electronic Flashback. Five years ago, it was a TC E. Flashback x 3. Now you have the model 4.
this is Vintage reissue Stratocaster?
Yes, 1991 54' Reissue. Made in Japan
Can you do this with standard strings? Seems to me the G string has a long way to go.
C861986 9's or 10's would be too light. I used 11's and they were still a bit flappy.
@@jim_thom I tune to DGDDAE instead. same intervals, less flappy
