    Haven't seen bearing repack for 40-50 years when it was a routine maintenance for auto wheel bearings.
    Thanks for showing the next generation how it is done.

    Nice vid Thx
    Now
    I was thinking of drilling a hole in the spindle housing to spray in Li grease but with the bearing seal it NG.
    So
    Just from your vid I now know pull the spindle remove the pully pull the caps hand grease the opened sealed bearing re cap
    FIN
    Im golden. A little different than you not pulling the bearings or any parts but it will get the job done.
    Very nice vid and break down of all the parts.

    Had to buy complete one last year for deck due to one bearing was bad , so picked up a new bearing for old one then repacked and ready to go in stock , then put the new ordered unit in deck ! same as you did ! Mine did have the same plastic seals ! was really surprised what they wanted for new units ! but I am ready now if one goes out ! Glad you posted this as many have no idea of packing sealed bearings !

    • @BisonWorkshop
      @BisonWorkshop  4 года назад +1

      not all sealed bearings can be rebuilt. you can repack the bearings that have the metal seals but you cant get the seals back in to seal them back up. so this fix was mostly about the plastic sealed bearings. thats why they make them with the metal seal, so you have to buy new bearings.

    Id agree on not hitting the bearing with a metal hammer, use allthread and nuts / washers to draw it in. Otherwise o.k for an old mower deck , get you out of a hole save some cash.

  • @tazmun
    @tazmun 2 года назад +2

    Good skills to have…I am wondering if you crossed the bearing numbers to find out if it’s actually a common bearing with an every day common price. I can still hear and see the bearing problem in the repaired version. I don’t disagree it will,do the job however there will be an unavoidable power loss here. Lots of little power losses add up to one of the big reasons used mowers don’t perform like they used to. Craftsman used to sell a kit that included bearings and a new shaft we kept in stock on our trucks because 1 it was cheap and 2 it was faster to install then a new mandrel.

    Good job bob. I’m guessing that they don’t have grease fittings on the spindle
    Because if they do you could have left the plastic cover off and then they will get greased

  • @michelboisvert5684

    hi, nice video but you made a mistake putting the bearings back in with the seal on the inside, how do you expect the bearing to grease when you grease the inside?

    • @DonaldBurnette
      @DonaldBurnette 4 месяца назад

      Didn't appear to have grease fittings on the spindle, and if it did, it would still push grease past the seals and grease the bearings and push grease out past the seals on the outside.

  • @cornpop7805

    He's just repacking the bearing and that only works if the inner, the outer, and the balls aren't worn. For instance, he said one of the spindles was loose and that means worn out bearings, which repacking woth grease won't fix.
    He said find the greasiest grimiest rag you can find to apply grease! That's not a good idea. Hint, those seals were there to keep dirt out.
    Wire brushing the sides of bearings with the seals removed will scratch the balls, so if they weren't already damaged they're slightly damaged now.
    Basically, unless it's a post-apocalyptic scenario, don't do anything he said. You can buy replacement bearings for $5 each.

      so you just an ass. with too much money to care about the people not as rich as you. this video was just a way to buy more time for guys like me that live in an area where parts arent easy to get to. so if you didnt like my fix then dont watch and keep your mouth shut.

    • @tommcbride6610
      @tommcbride6610 Год назад

      The play could also be from the spindle being worn. The bearings, even China ones, will be hardened and shouldn't be affected by the wire wheel.

    • @cornpop7805
      @cornpop7805 Год назад

      Call it rebuilding a bearing if you want. But, I'm waiting for your next video, where you put sawdust in a transmission and call it a "rebuild".
      By the way, I just checked, and you can buy new spindle bearings for under $2 each. That's $8 for both spindles.
