I have watched tennis since I was young, in the late 70's, Borg, McEnroe days. Very few times have I cheered so hard, cried during and after the match, just SO happy for the winner of a Grand Slam. Madison Keyes' win in Australia was just that match. She never has to listen to perhaps people saying "one of the most talented players to never win a Grand Slam". She did it and I couldn't be happier for her!! Time to keep up the good, hard work and continue to build her legacy as one of the most talented players in the last 10 years. Hopeful that she will win many more Grand Slams and better yet, continue to be the person she has worked so hard to become. YAY MADISON!!!

One of my favorite Majors victories ever. And I'm an admirer of Sabalenka (who also has battled through some things.) This was the outcome I hoped for, and to see Madison hoist that trophy did bring tears to my eyes.

You are admiring one of the most disgusting champions ever in the person of Sabalenka who would stoop so low as to pretend to urinate on the runners-up trophy.
She is the worst role model for women's tennis.

So happy for Madison! Her story brought tears to my eyes watching the AO edit they posted of her and Janniks journey. Her story really defined that event and that moment in sports history forever, inspiring!

    • @isabellasmith8377
      @isabellasmith8377 5 дней назад +1

Yes! Each AO triumph of Jannik was filled with so much challenge. The trembling of the hands in the Rune match was a sign of cardiac difficulty, possibly very high adrenaline level against dehydration (heat stroke). Umpire accidentally breaking that net pin was a major lucky break for Sinner. Like Maddy said, 'things happen
for a reason" and no matter how lame it sounds, it makes sense.

Madison Keys had a different feel and look about her in Australia. On route to her first Grand Slam win, Madison took out some of my favourite tennis players and I found myself cheering and hoping she ends up holding the trophy. This was a very unusual experience for (me !)

As tennis players we have a few seconds after every point to litterally 'come.to our senses' in the true meaning. We can de- clutter our mind and start the point fresh. Alot know you're suppose to, not many know how to... maddison was absolutely amazing in this tournamnet. Just a beautiful person. She learnt, after searching for so long that 'what we are looking for, is inside where we are looking from' well done amazing effort.

I was overwhelmed with pride for MK-I cried then, and I still cry every time I rewatch the championship game. Her dedication, determination, and heart were nothing short of extraordinary. She fought for every moment, earned every bit of that victory, and proved exactly why she’s a true champion. MK is not just a winner; she’s an inspiration, a testament to resilience, and the embodiment of what it means to rise to the occasion to fulfill her goal to win a GS.

So truly happy for her to feel that she deserves the win at 5-5, serving a second serve at 15-30. Learning to keep your awareness in the present when score is tight. One thing I’d tell myself in a final ( I’m a 4.5 player) I’d tell myself that my opponent is more nervous than me since I only reached 5 finals in my junior days . I won 4/5 all just barely in the third set. I was never seeded above my final opponent - they expect to win so I had little to lose. I’d tell myself “ no one 10 yrs from now will even remember who won. “

Congrats Maddie for your victory - a deserved one...!
I totally agree with what you said about being normal (or nice) to opponents and winning. That is so true ! Too often in sports we have coaches pushing violent or aka hate thoughts onto players, when competition should definitely NOT be that... !! Our opponents are those that challenge us, with their diverse, spins, mentalities and tactics, putting the balls into a zone that is difficult for us to reach - this pushes us to get better. It is thanks to them that we achieve, because without our opponents fight (the good fight), how could we improve ? One can stay focused, a strong desire to win, and get that last ball in the court and seal victory without ideas of 'killing' the adversary....Competition is about overcoming ; winning is beating your tough opponent (again the good fight) or vanquishing personal demons...
PS : I'm sure too, that having an objective therapist that can help you see the painting of your psychological landscape extremely helpful, and too, to feel loved and supported in your private life. Good luck for your next tournaments.

Regarding nerves @ 3:49ish, a counselor once told me that like nerves, hate or resentment are emotions too, and in moments of duress or high pressure we certainly compartmentalize them in order to focus on our jobs or the task at hand; nerves, which were like a joker that would repeatedly harass me, can also go in this same compartment. In fact, she said, the effort to expel the nerves will make them worse.

The problem in tennis now is the media that fuel negativity and trolls at every opportunity. Tim Henman never got to a slam final but had a very successful career. It seems if you do not win a slam you have failed which is not the case. Getting to a slam final is a huge skill, mental and fitness achievement. Useless trolls think it is easy. As a UK tennis fan for 50 years + Emma achievement at Wimbledon and the US open are amazing for a British player. When have we ever had a dominant No.1 player from the UK on the WTA? If it is easy being a tennis pro why are we all pursuing 💩 careers?

Trivia fact: no girls were called Madison until the movie “Splash” came out in 1984. Darryl Hannah’s mermaid character took the name arbitrarily from Madison Avenue in New York. After that, thousands of baby girls were named Madison by their parents. It’s a little bit like how the name “Wendy” was not given to girls until the publication of “Peter Pan” in 1911.

So … you spent the entire time with Bjorn talking about the nuts and bolts of tennis tactics, rackets, coaching, etc, everything that goes on between the lines, but when you spoke with Maddie, it was all and only about her feelings, and nothing about her actual tennis.
    How gendered! How disappointing!
I suppose it was nice for you that you were able to get your inner Barbra Walters on, but what you got from her was just an expanded version of all her prior interviews on mainstream media.
What a wasted opportunity! Instead of hearing in detail and in depth about what she did to beat Sabalenka, Swiatek, et al, it was only about her life journey. And she gave you an opening! She stressed how important it was for her now to be able to problem solve on the tennis court, and you could have asked her to provide specific examples from her matches. But no, you just wanted to emote with her.
Yes, it’s a great feel good story, and we all love it. But that story has already been told, and we got nothing of your special expertise about the game.

No point talking to Madi about the technical side of her game. She has no clue. She trusts Bjorn to take care of all that. This pod was not gendered as you put it. It was talking to Bjorn and Madi about what they know best. The match sfuff has already been flogged to death so many times. Andy did a great job of looking at things from a far better and different point of view.
