How To Hold And Turn A Steering Wheel-Driving Lesson

  • In this video, I show you how to hold and turn a steering wheel. It's a simple driving lesson, and I show you a beginner skill! I outline the process for holding/turning the wheel with two hands and one hand (I believe that it's important to know how to do both). These skills will allow you to keep your car centered in a lane while driving, and steer through turns smoothly.

I passed my test a few years ago in UK. They do allow hand over hand. People are right though it did get banned. Just never take one hand off the steering wheel. Passing the wheel through your fingers is easily done just relax and practice. I had one minor for getting overtaken by a faster car on a B road while it was raining. I was travelling at 50mph. Anyone learning good luck!

I'm sorry but a lot of places say that the 10 and 2 is out today and it's actually dangerous cuz if you get into a accident you could hit your hands and to your face and break your arms also the best way that I do it is 8 and 6 at the bottom half of the wheel also it was wrong about how you said hand-over-hand they taught me not to do that because you can mess up your direction of your car when you're driving they say the best way to do is grab and pull

Driving with both hands on wheel at 10-3 o'clock or 9-2 o'clock and steering using push and pull method is like the only way to pass a driving exam over here in my country. My instructor used to give me hell for driving and steering with only one hand. But I can't drive with both hands on steering wheel because my right arm gets tired pretty quickly and it becomes very uncomfortable to keep my both hands on the wheel.

Thanks for a great video, going to show my son who is learning now and we are debating the various methods. Just a comment on the 1 handed method: You show it while standing still, but when moving, and more so the faster you go, your body will be thrown by the turning, and thus it become a less safe method of steering around corners because you 1 hand can easily slip off the wheel and then you could be in trouble. So really just for slow speed e.g. parking etc, or going mostly straight

    • @illdanstromrage

the higher you go holding the wheel the sharper the turn is on in short moves. That is why you need to hold the wheel neer the buttons. Never hold the wheel on top!!! This is a terrible video for beginner drivers.

Palming the wheel by one hand is the fastest steering for manuevering or backing the car on tight turns.
