They actually have a special button for that, but that just gets rid of the numbering on the first page. How stupid can that be.

@Max What could be easier? If over half a million people have to lecture themselves online to do something as trivial as starting page numbering from page 3, then maybe you're looking at bad design.
@Max it is because half of the buttons mentioned in the video like ‘link to previous’ are simply not there, on the page or on search. Not the fault of the guy making the video, he is trying to help, but MS is just yesterdays technology. Too full of itself to just make things easy.

Seriously word is the worst Microsoft office program ever. Excell, Powerpoint, everything else works beautifully but they threw common sense overboard when they designed word.

when I selected a page from the first section and deleted it, numbers on all pages - in both sections were deleted...
Yeah, I followed all the steps and this happened to me too and I don't know what to do anymore ...

before removing, go to the page's footer where you want to start from 1 and being on that particular footer go to design tab that appears and "click link to previous " to unlink that page. you might notice on the top right side of that footer that, "same as previous" disappears then you can go to upper section and remove page numbers there.
