      Yeah, me too.. I know how to build, but it’s just not my favorite part. I make really nice kitchens, and I’m trying to force myself a bit on a large manor house in my 200+ hr world this time, but when spring hits I’m planting crops, getting the animals going to the next generation, and hitting the road. I’m finishing my armor this winter and going to head north to the resonance archive for my first time! I’m so excited!! 🎉

    Wanna say, a big part of WHY the chiseling is good and better than it could ever be if you slapped it onto Minecraft is because the system it uses is so immensely baked into basegame progression.
    You WILL need to knap stone to make tools, engaging with the idea of chipping voxels off of things.
    Then you clayform, and get to try out ADDING voxels to things.
    Smithing cements both of these by making you move voxels into a perfect, complex shapes.
    You might even see pre-made chiseled and mixed blocks in ruins, to give you inspiration.
    By the time you make a chisel (which is needed ANYWAYS for certain crafting recipies, like the quern for crushing grain) you've already been introduced to the mechanic and seen how thoroughly ingrained into the game it is.
    I've seen Minecraft mods that add a chiseling system, but whenever it's put on a build I always think it stands out like a sore thumb, something out of place in the rest of the world.

    • @pearlyp9898
      @pearlyp9898 Month ago +59

      Yesss, absolutely all of this!! Not to mention how chiseling can be functional in some cases (such as adding a grate so that your coal doesn't fall out for your refractory furnace, or chiseling out holes through which you can actually hit enemies and shoot arrows, etc.)
      Plus I feel like with minecraft mods that add chiseling, they often make it a bit too complicated.. like chisels and bits, which will RETURN ALL the bits that you have taken out, immensely cluttering your inventory, even if you have the bag thingy.. and also how many different tool modes they are.. sure, they're useful, and im sure vs could use some of them, but they also make it a lot less intuitive, leading to people maybe not wanting to touch the system due to feeling overwhelmed...
      I feel like qp's chisel tools is great in that regard - it adds more functionality, but mostly through additional tools that you can choose to make - that way the original chisel still remains as simple as in vanilla. Very good system, imo.

      I dont know I really like that restriction honestly. Like theres definitely some benefits to vintage story's extremely granular building system. But i really like having to figure out how to make an identifiable object out of abstract shapes.
      Minecraft gives me the same experience as building with Legos where there's very set in stone limits on what connections you can do, so your forced to find interesting workarounds. Which I think the precise voxel by voxel building just can't replicate.

So placing it two blocks high will only protect two blocks in each direction from it, etc.

Worked for me after I have moved and different flora in the place ruined my lactose tolerance in a month. I was living with it for a year or two and then went crazy with milk, kefir and yoghurts and it went away after a few weeks :) you can build your gut biome back up

    • @Kuhmuhnistische_Partei
      @Kuhmuhnistische_Partei 27 days ago +3

      @marsen1234 There are lots of reasons why people may have negative effects when drinking milk, lactose intolerance is technically the norm for adult humans (most people on Earth are lactose intolerant), but especially Northern Europeans (and those descendend from them; as well as some other smaller population hotspots around the world, for example around Sudan/Ethiopia there is another population that developed it independently) are often lactase persistent - lactase is the enzym our bodies use to break down lactose. They keep a high production of that enzym going after childhood.
      If you had no problems with milk before moving, you probably have lactase persistence but your gut flora just got messed up as you described. So it wasn't really true lactose intolerance. People who are actually lactose intolerant - don't have lactase persistence - will not just cure it by getting used to it or at least will have a much harder time.
      So all I want to say is: whoever may try it should be really careful, it may not help you if you're actually genetically unable to digest milk.

    About two weeks ago I started up a new world in a warm climate & I started in a massive redwood forest with plenty of lime to go around (compared to my first world I spent ~120hrs in, where the nearest lime source was a thin layer of marble ~9.5k to the south, this is a blessing). Meaning I can finally start on steel production in one of my worlds. I, too, found out that hail is a thing in the game. Luckily I had the redwood tree canopy mostly covering me, so it wasn't too much of an issue.
    I'm about 40hrs into the world. I struggled a bit to find enough surface copper & tin to get properly started, but as I'm surrounded by limestone there was plenty of flint. I've currently got my first full set of iron tools, thanks to a neverending hematite vein (seriously, I came back from my most recent trip with 2 & a bit full crate's worth of nuggets). The forest is abundant in boars & chickens, alongside the occasional wolf, & the rare siting of bears which means I have plenty of fat for mechanisms, & there's already a spot that I want to move to that has great surrounding views, even if I wouldn't be under the tree caopy anymore.
    There are some problems that I'm finding; it's that although there are forests around that have the usual of maple, oak & birch, when it comes to pine, I've only found a few with resin, plus the lack of any open fields to find wild crops. I have a grand total of 8 (eight!) flax seeds & only a handful of some others from traders.
    After typing this out it feels like I'm in nearly a polar opposite of the 120hr world. Plenty of animals & lime, but not enough resin. The lack of flax is a constant, though.
    _However_, due to all the flint that I've picked up or mined, I finally joined the Church of the Pie. They make things so much easier inventory-wise.

    Since you’re a builder and enjoy lots of chiseling I think the stone quarry mod would also save you a lot of time. Especially since there is a block that allows you to turn stones into gravel and sand. Quarry out large slabs of rock which you can then get ashlar polished or full stone.

    If you enjoy building but don't enjoy gathering rocks, the quarry mod is really good. It allows you to smith metal plugs. you hammer them into rock and then all the rock between two planes of those hammered in plugs will break into a large slab. You can then use special tools to break free rock, polished rock, bricks, and stones from those slabs. The steel version can turn a 7x7x7 grid into a slab. It allows quickly gathering materials and processing them into the things you need..

    1:49:00 There is a mod called "Rivers" that adds rivers with current, like what I think you're talking about. I think the only reason someone would build trusses for a long time is just to make it look good. Though a system to incentivise architecture would be really cool, at least just as an optional challenge, like soil instability.
    Edit: Also, a quick mention, I've figured out recently that if you chisel stone before you mine it out, you can get the full stone without quarrying it, but it can't be used for recipes, just a neat trick to save you time and resources.
    Edit 2: Never mind, you already got it all lol.

    Starting a new world in a new game version is worth only if you make world with huge oceans and small to mid sized islands / small continents, to experience sailing, which is totally worth. Plus, this kind of world setup is bit harder, resources are scattered and bit scarce so you have to travel/sail from island to island.
    My recommendation for the world gen setup is: Landcover 50-60%, Landform Scale 30-40%, and increase World Height to 320.

    I have been watching all sorts of RUclips playthroughs for decades and 99% of games are never as fun to play as they are to watch. I bought vintage story after watching yours and a handful of others videos and have put 100 hours in two weeks on it.... It some of the most fun content ever. Even managed to get steel before my first winter ended! (51 hours on the dot)
    Side note, but the debate over what terraria in 3d would look like seems to have ended to me after playing this game. I'm sure that after adding more enemies, bosses, progression, mods, etc. this game WILL be that "terraria in 3d" that everyone has been trying to make for so many years... and then some.
    cheers mate

    Oh man I can't wait to see what you come up with in VS. Regarding mods - the game is BUILT from the foundation to be easy to mod. Even the main play modes function within the game as mods, and yes there are a TON of amazing mods that can customize your game into pretty much whatever you want it to be. Love this game so much, so happy to see more MC creators trying it out.

      A lot of people like old minecraft, pre beta 1.8 minecraft. They even prefer building in it over normal minecraft. Why is that? Because more chanels for creativity don't inherently make the game better. Current minecraft stands at a middleground between vintage story and its classic version. And just because its a middleground, doesn't mean it's better or worse than the two extremes

    • @Ramblin_Jack
      @Ramblin_Jack Month ago

      Have you ever heard the expression "Limitation breeds creativity"? Art isn't about realism or detail, in fact it most often employs the _illusion_ of detail. It's problem solving. It's abstraction, and working within the limitations of a medium. Oil paints are not a more creative medium than charcoal simply because there is more variety in colour because creativity is internally manifested. It's not the game's creativity that is impacted by additional mechanics, it's yours. _You_ must be more creative with limited mechanics. It's not better or worse, it is simply a tool, and the skill or quality of an artist is not determined by their tools.

    • @kkrup5395
      @kkrup5395 Month ago

      @Ramblin_Jack Sure, have you heard minecraft has been out for a while now, 14 years! There only so much you can do with the restrictions Mojang put on themself. It was creative to use stairs as benches and chairs 12 years ago, it was creative to use trapdoors as slabs 10 years ago - i think it's time we explore something new
