  • Jason Momoa talks about how Zack Snyder chose him for Aquaman. He talks about how he feels about America conquering Hawaii, how they need to teach their kids to be self sustained and not depend on ships going to the islands delivering crappy food.
    The Aquaman protagonist opens up about his past and his interests.

      I was born and raised in Hawaii and lived here all my life, but I don't want the US to give the Hawaiians back their land because not a lot of people here would benefit from it. I'm not a Hawaiian, only people with Hawaiian blood like this dude here can be called that. There's only a few people left with "pure" Hawaiian blood (not mixed) so their numbers are dwindling. The biggest population here are the hardworking Asians followed by Caucasians. These are the people that truly make Hawaii great because they WORK to make it great. So you see, a majority of the people in Hawaii do not care much about their cause. There was also a survey done a couple of years ago that shows this. Even some Hawaiians here are against this happening because, well, that would mean a loss to some of their *cough* benefits *cough* which they receive because they're part of the US government. Still there are people fighting for it to happen because they think it's their right. You see them in the news most times protesting or promoting their cause. What they don't realize is that Hawaii has greatly changed. No longer are Hawaiians the only ones who live here, but people of other ethnicity (in greater numbers) live here (and was born here) as well.

    • @clarkkent3809
      @clarkkent3809 5 лет назад +11

      M N Ok...?
      So you're not Hawaiin, and you don't want Hawaiians to have their own country. You are also saying that Hawaii would be a failed state if the US let them have their sovereignty and if whites/asians didn't live there.
      Woooooooow.

    • @clarkkent3809
      @clarkkent3809 5 лет назад +1

      M N Obviously what you just assumed wouldn't even be possible, and wasn't what I meant. I am merely talking about letting the state/island have its own sovereignty. So it would no longer be a colonie of the US. Which is what most Hawaiians want I am sure.

    ALOT of horrible things happened, both before and after British/American conquest... There's a reason the Maori left. Whilst the Hawaiins may have been the more peaceful of the Polynesians, other Iwi were not so. Furthermore, and more predominantly, the Tahitians were known to be barbaric, Island raiding across the Pacific. This is partly why the Hawaiins originally took the support of the British... Although I believe Hawaii should be more self-contained, a relationship needs to exist with the outside world *cough*Aquamanplot*cough*.

    Was Hawaii taken illegally? Yes. There's very little the federal government does that's actually constitutional. That said, we can't look at that situation in a vacuum. You have to look at world politics of the time. Had we not taken it, Japan probably would have, and Japan would have been MUCH worse for the Hawaiians. If you need an example of what they used to do when they took over a place, look at Philipino and Korean history. It's not pretty.
    That said, given that Japan isn't really a threat anymore, I would totally support a Hawaiian succession movement at this point. My only fear is that China would find a way to muscle in there the way they're doing all over everywhere else.

    More power to anyone who tries to make the world a better place. Now bringing up plastics in water and ships bringing in high sugar products is NOT major concerns of Hawaii. Why not bring up the homeless or the abuse of ICE (meth) of the local islanders. What about the land and how most of Hawaii is owned by 1% or rich foreigners. How abiut the cost of Hawaii and locals who have lived there for generations has to move because they cant keep up with the cost of rent and groceries.. How about the pubic schools and how they are very low in comparison to the national average. Or how most jobs on the island get out sourced by mainlanders because the local people cant compete with the level of education or the stereotype that local are less educated and lazy in comparison. How about how Hawaii is now a producer of nothing bec the land has been raped and is currently being handle in the same way. How about Oahu where the island looks more like a tourist island pumped with concert and Starbucks that it green is slowly disappearing. Just something i want to point out bec people in these comment section has never lived that island life. Jason is seeing it from a naive point of view. He only hears some of the issues but never experienced it and so he doesnt feel the pain us locals do when we see people taking from out culture and not give anything of real substance back. I feel for the Hawaiians... but I must say. If they didn’t take Hawaii. Someone else would have. Hawaii is better off being part of the US than being ruled by Japan or Germany which could’ve happened in WW2 had it not been for Uncle Sam. How the white man did it was wrong, yes.. but at the same time everyone was playing the conquering game in those days. They just did it better. And that’s the sad, annoying, irritating truth. But it’s the truth nonetheless. And it’s history. All we can do is move forward and learn from it so that it doesn’t repeat itself. Mehh, I appreciate and understand his thoughts... but a great deal of his ancestry is Caucasian (and probably American too). So when he says "us", it's kind of a paradox. And anyone who's thought about how reparations for supposed historic injustices would work, knows it's simply *not* within reason. To give an example, Jason himself would probably have to give away some of his wealth, as a result of his white ancestry - who by his own words illegally took the land and benefited from it - which in turn would partly go back to him, as he is also Hawaiian. In other words, he would pay for his own reparation, more than likely. There's simply no point trying to change history. All we can do is work on the future.
    Never mind the fact that he is arguing in favor of a nationalist/ ethno-state, which he is allowed to do of course... I just think it's hypocritical when Europe does the same, they're labeled xenophobic, racist neo-Nazis. Nothing against Jason, I just thought I'd add another perspective.

      @@The.Hawaiian.Kingdom Who tf ever said it was okay? That's the biggest bs I've ever heard.
      I'm also not American, btw. But what you're proposing would be a logistical nightmare. I mean, why stop there? Everyone, everywhere at some point in time has been wronged by another (be it a nation, or individual). EVERYONE. Just like EVERYONE (nations) has a history of violence, war and conquest.
      Hawaii certainly isn't the only one to have been a victim of conquest, so are you also including every other country on Earth (which is everyone, pretty much) in that equation or not? You are more than welcome to figure out this logistical nightmare yourself, so *YOU* are first capable of "rectifying" the wrongs *YOUR* ancestors committed, before complaining to others "they" should give back to you. But something tells me you wouldn't like that, or expect that you also should do/ pay something in return, even though it's guaranteed that someone in your family line probably hurt someone else or a family and took something from them.
      I'm sorry, but anyone who holds innocent people today responsible for the actions SOME of their ancestors committed, is a radical of the highest order. Collective social justice is inherently evil and does no one any good. Ultimately, not you or anyone else living today experienced the annexation of Hawaii by the US. No one. Just like no American today is guilty of the crimes you've mentioned, yet you demand them be held responsible regardless? Seems to me you just have a lot of anger and resentment inside you and focus on the past too much instead of taking responsibility for your life and see what you can do about your future.
