Even as someone who's never been up to Scotland (and it's unlikely I ever will) I can tell you most Scottish blokes would be considerably offended if you told them their KILT is a Skirt.

Having worn a wool kilt on multiple occasions, I can tell you there is nothing I would rather NOT do than go true. Like frigging sandpaper on your most special part. I tried it once and it felt like I was going to be dripping blood within a few minutes.

I don't know what you are made of but the men in my family all wear kilts and none of them could bear the embarrassment or the shame of being found not to be a true Scotsman. Quite apart from anything else a true Scotsman is a babe magnet, the women cannot keep their hands to tbemselves when the kilty is around. I do l know though that I did a marathon in an lightweight sports kilt made of artificial fibres, and wore cotton jocks under that. Other men did not, and seeing first aid administered by the roadside and in the medical tent was not a pretty sight. The effect of friction from a heavy sporan drumming a Big Mac against a polyester and nylon weave is something that would likely break the Geneva Convention on the treatment of prisoners.

IT IS NOT A SKIRT. A Kilt is not sewn together and styled or taylored. It is a blanket buckled together and folded. It is designed for warmth and it is water resistant. They show family and Status. They used them for sleeping in and as a shelter from the rain as they always made out of wool and kept them warm and dry! A skirt does none of those things! And it is useless except for style and accentuating the curves of a woman. And since kilts are NOT SEWN ....BUT BUCKLED together it is nothing but a blanket held together by a belt. No seems. No form just folded like any wool blanket.
