Well worth the wait. Informative, insightful and entertaining. More detail than I’ve seen anywhere else on Darien which was an unexpected bonus, albeit quite a bleak and sobering chapter in our history. Kudos Sam, love your work and you deserve a much bigger audience.

That's extremely kind of you, thanks. It's good to hear Darien hit as intended, it wasn't pleasant to research but a key part of getting at why the Union occurred. It's just really sad. The unforgivable decision to send a second expedition was at least a case of corporate manslaughter.

@@UtopiaPlanitiaStudios Darien is just a tragic saga in our history. Poorly represented and exploited by the union driving the misguided attempt to develop our own colony and break the reliance on the oppressors.
The second colony attempt was a desperate act of hubris, but that doesn’t excuse the tragic negligence of the outcome and the ironic impact it had on strengthening the union.

Criminally under-rated amount of views for the sheer production quality

Fantastic documentary. Which gave a lot of nuances to Darian situation other than the version taught to most of the 'feckless Scots! The part you mentioned never gets talked about how Scotland was cut off from its trading partners. No protection from the royal navy these factors are conveniently forgetting.

6:00 " Established that a monarch can not force a specific religion upon their subjects . "
So this jumps out of the page because John Locke was in exile in Holland when he wrote
" A Letter Concerning Toleration " in Latin in 1685 , while he was in exile in Holland.

6:40 Sectarianism occurs when members of a different denomination , within the same faith , experience prejudice, hatred, and/or discrimination based on being from a different sect. This religious or sect-based affiliation often exists as a differentiated relationship to power and may have socio-political and/or security-based consequences. Sect-based religious identification and sectarianism have been recognized as having a so-called double function in terms of legitimation of power and privilege, as well as in protest and opposition.
This definition was graciously provided by Hannah Hamill
who's literacy skills are obviously at a considerably higher level than mine .
