I'm the same way, it took a solid month after coming out until people actually started to believe me. People would just say "But you listen to Tool, Cannibal Corpse, Iron Maiden etc., shouldn't you be listening to Madonna?" But I think in the end, I helped a lot of people to see that gay people aren't just a stereotype.
That's awesome dude. I really like how you said I'm family and they love you know matter what. It would be awesome if every family that had a gay family member had this attitude towards us. I think it's becoming more and more common these days, which is rad.
a shot of vodka, a sip of scotch and a beer chaser. LOL na just kidding. The courage comes from with in, you have to be pretty comfortable in your own skin and not really worry about what others may think. Plus if you spend a little time searching youtube there are so many coming out videos. And that's what really inspired me. Many thanks.
I'm with this guy, I am very anti-pop, the closest I could ever to liking it is pink and she has some punk credibility. I definitely don't fit in with the established gay culture, spanning from music, politics, morals, dress code, etc. Iggy Pop and the Stooges Dead Kennedys Wimps Sex Pistols Doors Black Flag Peaches Patti Smith My Chemical Romance Marilyn Manson P!nk Gogol Bordello
@thegrindhousegrotto Thanks for the insight. I'm checking this out now. Hopefully some others do as well. One question, what does NWOBHM mean? I'm not that cool to know. Cheers...
Yeah I know Alarum well, my band Desecrator will most probably be doing some shows with them very soon. We just finished recording our 5 track EP with the same dude that recorded their first two albums. They're tracking atm for their next one. I'm sure there will be loads more gay metal heads out there.
The Dillinger Escape Plan, Meshuggah, Pantera, Slayer, Early Metallica, Fantomas. NoFX, Propagandhi, Lagwagon, Strung Out, Bad Religion, Frenzal Rhomb, All.
@BlogsofWoolhouse NWOBHM stands for the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal. It's metal from the UK from the late 70's/early 80's. The NWOBHM was the foundation for most metal. Bands like Diamond Head, Girlschool, Jaguar, Saxon Witchfinder General, Iron Maiden, Tank, Raven, Tygers Of Pang Tang, Praying Mantis, Judas Priest etc. It was kind of a mix of punk and metal but leaning more towards the metal side. Look up "New Wave of British Heavy Metal" on wikipedia. Explains a lot :)
@lifeinawaxmuseum yeah man, totally agree. sometimes though I think some of those types actually really identify with being that way and it kind of gives them a place to fit in. Wether that good or bad I'm not so sure. As long as they feel like they're being themselves, then it is cool with me.
Being gay is about much more than music and stereotypical scenes. If you wouldn't believe the hype of a str8 personal telling you that somethings wrong with you, don't accept it from gay people either. Also, there's no need to feel as though you are alone in your musical tastes. I've liked heavy music my whole life and I thought myself alone in that until the advent of the internet.
You really think it made you gay? was it the butch lesbians in Elizabeth?? They can be pretty scary. What part of Adel you from and where do you live now?
