I live in Canada but I’ve lived in Washington D.C. and they try there too but they just can’t bring the authenticity of the Jamaican food their customers. I’ve never seen a restaurant in Canada nor the USA serve authentic Jamaican cuisine.
My sister and I are Kingstonians and we only use to buy and enjoy 'turn' (almost ripe) breadfruit at Coronation (currynation) market. We (mid 40s) still prefer turn breadfruit after 25 years in NYC.
PoJo-we eat the breadfruit after roasting it on what we call a “coal stove” until the skin is black then we peel it. We either eat it after roasting it or we fry it after roasting it. My favorite is when it’s fried. So delicious 🤤 with pretty much everything! Breadfruit is a part of Jamaica’s national dish: Ackee and salt fish and roast breadfruit. We typically add the salt after we fry it.

When I was back in Jamaica, I enjoyed fried breadfruit. We typically sprinkled a little salt after frying it. We normally eat it with sauce or gravy. It’s not for everybody and has an acquired taste.
Festival is fried dough.....they put a little cornmeal and sugar in it.....and Breadfruit, is even better if you roast it and then once roasted you slice it and fry it over, it goes great with anything even bacon and eggs for breakfast.....or better yet, with ackee and saltfish.......glad you are enjoying Jamaica.
Just salt we normally put on the breadfruit it can eat 2 ways roast or fry. There is even a song bout breadfruit done by the musician named ching ching and the name of the song is breadfruit check it on RUclips
Btw Po Jo, the breadfruit you ate was the fruit/leaves the goat was eating that you thought were mangoes. It is eaten as a staple, goes with any meat/chicken dish. Good with vegetable dish too, eg callaloo, ackee anything even fish. It also can be eaten by itself, roasted with a sprinkle of salt, roasted then fried sprinkled with salt. Ohhh, we also boil them.

Hey that's not Scotch Bonnet Pepper but another type known as Bird Pepper and it's hotter and is primarily grown in Portland & St. Thomas. The Goat you saw was actually tugging at the leaves of a Breadfruit Tree.

Po Jo! That’s Boston Jerk should be the best. No Breadfruit is better than bread one of my favorite and in Portland you have the best Breadfruit there are different varieties all over the Island. Portland is famous for Yellow Heart breadfruit. Boston is outside of Port Antonio by a good few miles. Love your adventures spirt trying everything. Enjoy.

Ive been there three times and to be honest I don't like the roughness of how they treat people. No customer service at all, and they will try to overcharge. The only person ill buy from is the young rasta selling natural juices. Im glad you enjoyed it. Portland is nice.

In NY city, especially Brooklyn and the Bronx, you’ll find a lot of Jamaican food and groceries. Same in Florida.

Normally a little Ketchup on the chicken is what is required as the spices used to season it is sufficient. The Ketchup balances things out.

You won’t find food like that back home. If you’ve never been to Jamaica you would not know what the food there is like. You can’t find anything like it outside of Jamaica

You’ll find REALLY good Jamaican food in NY, FL, and even in TX. You just won’t find everything. You can find the roast breadfruit frozen in some Korean supermarkets in Westchester County NY. South Koreans really cater to a variety of cultures. In NY city, especially Brooklyn and the Bronx, you’ll find a lot of Jamaican food and groceries. Same in Florida.
