In Japan (and China for that matter) its common for government officials and businesses men to keep their hair died black into old age, only to stop once they have retired. Sengoku just stopped dying his hair when he stepped down from fleep admiral.... aka his hair was always naturally white because hes old.

Luffy has a vivid imagination, but he doesn't have enough of an understanding of other things to imagine far enough for them. Imagine for a second, that Brook does awaken his fruit, and he's able to tune other peoples souls to a particular frequency to empower each other, and now Luffy get's not just a stat boost but possibly his crews understanding of their expertise. He can think to suck in clouds, beat his belly to churn a thunderstorm and spit out lightning if he thinks how Nami does, He can rubberize swords in his own way from thinking like Zoro, He can funkify some kicking moves from Sanji! Imagination can be very high, but it can only go so far with what you know.

As an artist myself, I think the key is not being afraid. When I draw I tend to get hyperfocused in tiny details and perfection and my art ends up feeling stiff and lifeless. But when you just go for it and become more adventurous and experimental, without the fear of discarding what no longer works, and know when to stop... That's when you can become brilliant. Drawk often discards art he isn't happy with even if it isn't completely bad. That's a great skill to develop as an artist.

I need to defend Fairy Tail since it’s become a series that is commonly put down and made fun of for almost no reason (Usually people calling it a One Piece clone). First it absolutely takes inspiration from One Piece to some extent, as do pretty much every shonen series in the past decade… in the same way the Big 3 all take inspiration from Dragon Ball. The guildarts comparison in particular is obnoxious because it’s a common archetype character of the badass mentor, the similarities with Shanks are the archetype of the character, the loss of body parts (which Gildarts lost in a battle with a dragon off screen not protecting the protagonist like Shanks did), and finally the red hair (Which is actually a dirty blonde in the manga and was made red when the anime aired). As for the coliseum, that’s also a common Shonen trope called a tournament arc. The similarities are almost always common tropes, or things that could be inspired by One Piece but are certainly not plagiarized or ripped straight from One Piece. As for the idea that Oda made some additions to this arc to mock Mashima like the Lucy thing or the fairies stealing Zoro’s swords; it’s totally possible that Oda felt that way and did that intentionally, but I hardly think Oda feeling that way makes it true or acceptable to put down a whole series just because there are a couple things similar to One Piece.
I have issues with Fairy Tail and I whole heartedly agree with you. Most of the one piece comparisons are so surface level. Tho the Hanks comparison... The anime did that DELIBERATELY. He doesn't even look like shanks much in the manga.
12:30 I considered the same thing (haki might have sub-classes other than the 3 we know) with Usopp's "Observation" awakening, because we havent seen any visual like that to represent observation haki. I dont feel as strongly about it now, but I do believe (If it isnt some unique sniper haki) his range of observation is still bonkers. Its nice to see Usopp become a proper superhuman after his insecurity in water 7.

So i was lucky enough to see the very first episode of Mom Piece just a few days after it came out on RUclips. I know in the manga, Gildarts was a dirty blonde (the mentor from fairy tail). However, for some reason, the anime gave him red hair. Aside from that they're not all that similar. The only other connection between them being the lost limb. Shanks sacrificed his arm to a weaker enemy to save Luffy, while Gildarts got fucked up because he fought the last boss way too early by himself.
Im so glad they enjoyed the Senior Pink vs Franky fight. I had the misfortune to experience it through toei animation's swamp of a dragging adaptation. Re-reading it in the Manga felt so liberating. No lingering closeups, no overly stretched out reactions from his fangirls, no repeating attacks. Just two badass characters trading blows like in one of those slap competitions.
This has spelled out the two possible endings for One piece, either Luffy will die the world's freeist man, or he will live giving up his freedom to become a leader.
I hope we will never see Luffy die. I also hope Luffy will never give up his freedom. I think Coby is set up to become a leader with maybe smoker on his side. They embody the "good" in the marines.
the problem mama has with sabo is literally a translation. kawatta is impossible to directly translate to english & translators usually go with “you haven’t changed a bit” which is totes different vibes than oda/japanese authors intend…
As far as fujitoras speech about wishing to see luffys face. Both voice actors do such an amazing job, you should definitely check it out mama, I cry every time. That and the passing of the merrygo, actually...if you have the time to watch all 1000+ episodes after your done reading it, I recommend it.
Haki is not visible. It can only be felt by those who can use it or feel it. As we cannot use nor feel haki, so it is shown visibly for us feeble viewers
I'm late but: In relation to Sabo's line: "You hadn't changed a bit" (or something like that), I was watching a reaction on Alabasta and Ace says the same thing when they encounter. I know it's not the same and a lot of time has passed but this sentence comes more endearing to me than a through "evaluation". Would be better if he said: You are energetic and happy as ever"

Fariy Tail, get a bad rep by the anime community in general and the RUclipsr (just stop) made a video talking about this topic, and yes, there's more similarities, but they are coincidental or do to the anime changing thing Fariy Tail usually gets put down for the power of friendship ,fanservice , copy, etc. Gildart and Shanks have similar designs because of the anime change .Shanks lost his arm, protecting luffy and placing his bets on the new era, while gildrats lost his arm and leg due to a mission that was all screened which showned the level of danger that the world can still bring as he was one of the strongest in the world and to give give hope in the Mc for his own personal quest which was stated episode 1 which was to find some one. Hiro Mashima is a great manga artist. That tends to be overlooked

Quick story: i started watching OP on an illegal streaming site around 06-08 in a vacuum, had no idea how popular it was, had never heard of it and didn't socialize online about animanga at all. I didn't take it seriously, didn't analyze much, just watched it like a fun really good cartoon..... But then at the end of DR, the moment Fuji wishes he could see Luffy's face as the people of DR flood the scene pretending to chase Luffy out while actually thanking him and protecting him with their bodies.... The whole thing fell on me at once and i realized One Piece is actually a genius work of art.... And then Luffy saying he doesn't want to be a big shot, he just wants to be the freest man on the sea... Ughhh! ODAAAAAAA!!!!!! Probably the only true epiphany road to Damascus moment of my life. Imagine my surprise when I jumped on twitter to tell the world about it and found out that it was already the best selling manga of all time 😅 ALSO for people who read One Piece but don't like Luffy: I'm sorry but you're reading it wrong. Luffy IS the other good characters in that he carries their will upon his shoulders ("the weight of history"). You can't love One Piece if you don't understand Luffy. Whenever I listen to these two talk about themes and propose theories about what is going to happen I just think of how cool it would be if they read Umineko eventually and hearing what they would have to say about that especially since Drawk himself probably hasn’t read it.
As far as I understood it they made a creative choice to color haki post time skip to make it read better. When Luffy uses elephant gun on the kraken chopper makes the comment "was it always like that?" when Luffy uses armament suggesting it's visible. I also look at it as maybe more advanced haki why we're seeing it now whereas pre time skip cp9 using iron body and such with no black coating, But that's just my interpretation/explanation.

On the topic/debate on if Haki is invisible or not, what I've heard and generally believed (for the most part) was that Haki is invisible, even to those who know about Haki and/or have observation Haki. It is just that the characters in the series are able to sense Haki rather than directly seeing it and the black coloring used to depict Armament Haki was purely for the audience's benefit for us to be able to tell if, when, and where a character used their Armament Haki. I'm still not 100% sold on this idea, and I would want to know if there was ever any mention about this from Oda himself, but on the assumption that Haki is invisible it makes Gear 4 look way more ridiculous of a form without the Armament Haki pattern on his chest and arms.
Mihawks sword is called a black sword because it was permanently changed black due to the imparting of haki. Much like how Enma has traces of Odens haki. Haki can be imparted on anything, but imparting onto one thing or object enough creates an imprint and haki is (to a degree) absorbed by the object

It was never a theory that Conquerors Haki was involved with awakening due to the fact that the very first awakened devil fruit users we've come across were the jailer beasts in Impel Down and they were completely mindless. Also, it has been known for a very long time that Miss Golden Week's color abilities are just hypnosis, which is a well established power system in of itself in the op universe with people like Jango. It was said in an SBS suuuuuuper long ago. Why not mention that during Moma's long color rant? :P

I think Haki has to be visible, because Gear Four uses a ton of Armament Haki, and I feel like if other characters weren't seeing it the same way we were, Oda would point it out. I have deeper theories, but I'll have to wait until later developments to dive into them.

As for the idea that Oda made some additions to this arc to mock Mashima like the Lucy thing or the fairies stealing Zoro’s swords; it’s totally possible that Oda felt that way and did that intentionally, but I hardly think Oda feeling that way makes it true or acceptable to put down a whole series just because there are a couple things similar to One Piece.
I have issues with Fairy Tail and I whole heartedly agree with you. Most of the one piece comparisons are so surface level. Tho the Hanks comparison... The anime did that DELIBERATELY. He doesn't even look like shanks much in the manga.
12:30 I considered the same thing (haki might have sub-classes other than the 3 we know) with Usopp's "Observation" awakening, because we havent seen any visual like that to represent observation haki. I dont feel as strongly about it now, but I do believe (If it isnt some unique sniper haki) his range of observation is still bonkers. Its nice to see Usopp become a proper superhuman after his insecurity in water 7.
Black Blades, I believe have absorbed so much haki that they retain a portion of that power. Like how Shusui enhanced Zoro's phoenix slashes against Oars.

So i was lucky enough to see the very first episode of Mom Piece just a few days after it came out on RUclips. Ive been trying since then to catch the streams but unfortunately i work in a 'on-call' industry. I have only been present on stream for maybe a total of 3 hours. That being said, i want sincerely thank the editors for getting the youtube vids out for us Squishies who cant consistently make the streams.

I know in the manga, Gildarts was a dirty blonde (the mentor from fairy tail). However, for some reason, the anime gave him red hair. Aside from that they're not all that similar. The only other connection between them being the lost limb. Shanks sacrificed his arm to a weaker enemy to save Luffy, while Gildarts got fucked up because he fought the last boss way too early by himself.
Im so glad they enjoyed the Senior Pink vs Franky fight. I had the misfortune to experience it through toei animation's swamp of a dragging adaptation.
Re-reading it in the Manga felt so liberating. No lingering closeups, no overly stretched out reactions from his fangirls, no repeating attacks. Just two badass characters trading blows like in one of those slap competitions.
This has spelled out the two possible endings for One piece, either Luffy will die the world's freeist man, or he will live giving up his freedom to become a leader.
I hope we will never see Luffy die. I also hope Luffy will never give up his freedom.

the problem mama has with sabo is literally a translation. kawatta is impossible to directly translate to english & translators usually go with “you haven’t changed a bit” which is totes different vibes than oda/japanese authors intend…

Fariy Tail usually gets put down for the power of friendship ,fanservice , copy, etc. Gildart and Shanks have similar designs because of the anime change .Shanks lost his arm, protecting luffy and placing his bets on the new era, while gildrats lost his arm and leg due to a mission that was all screened which showned the level of danger that the world can still bring as he was one of the strongest in the world and to give give hope in the Mc for his own personal quest which was stated episode 1 which was to find some one.

This arc reignited my Vivi joins the Straw Hats copium because she's the one who first taught Luffy what being a leader means. I think it would be poetic for her to help teach him once more after all she's learned in the last two years.
Great work guys, you nailed all my favorite parts. Quick story: i started watching OP on an illegal streaming site around 06-08 in a vacuum, had no idea how popular it was, had never heard of it and didn't socialize online about animanga at all. I didn't take it seriously, didn't analyze much, just watched it like a fun really good cartoon..... But then at the end of DR, the moment Fuji wishes he could see Luffy's face as the people of DR flood the scene pretending to chase Luffy out while actually thanking him and protecting him with their bodies.... The whole thing fell on me at once and i realized One Piece is actually a genius work of art.... And then Luffy saying he doesn't want to be a big shot, he just wants to be the freest man on the sea... Ughhh! ODAAAAAAA!!!!!! Probably the only true epiphany road to Damascus moment of my life. Imagine my surprise when I jumped on twitter to tell the world about it and found out that it was already the best selling manga of all time 😅
ALSO for people who read One Piece but don't like Luffy: I'm sorry but you're reading it wrong. Luffy IS the other good characters in that he carries their will upon his shoulders ("the weight of history"). You can't love One Piece if you don't understand Luffy. He is everything because he is the light in the darkness for everyone.
Whenever I listen to these two talk about themes and propose theories about what is going to happen I just think of how cool it would be if they read Umineko eventually and hearing what they would have to say about that especially since Drawk himself probably hasn’t read it.
As far as I understood it they made a creative choice to color haki post time skip to make it read better. When Luffy uses elephant gun on the kraken chopper makes the comment "was it always like that?" when Luffy uses armament suggesting it's visible. I also look at it as maybe more advanced haki why we're seeing it now whereas pre time skip cp9 using iron body and such with no black coating, But that's just my interpretation/explanation.

On the topic/debate on if Haki is invisible or not, what I've heard and generally believed (for the most part) was that Haki is invisible, even to those who know about Haki and/or have observation Haki. It is just that the characters in the series are able to sense Haki rather than directly seeing it and the black coloring used to depict Armament Haki was purely for the audience's benefit for us to be able to tell if, when, and where a character used their Armament Haki. I'm still not 100% sold on this idea, and I would want to know if there was ever any mention about this from Oda himself, but on the assumption that Haki is invisible it makes Gear 4 look way more ridiculous of a form without the Armament Haki pattern on his chest and arms.

Mihawks sword is called a black sword because it was permanently changed black due to the imparting of haki. Much like how Enma has traces of Odens haki. Haki can be imparted on anything, but imparting onto one thing or object enough creates an imprint and haki is (to a degree) absorbed by the object
And Drawk, no. It was never a theory that Conquerors Haki was involved with awakening due to the fact that the very first awakened devil fruit users we've come across were the jailer beasts in Impel Down and they were completely mindless.
Also, it has been known for a very long time that Miss Golden Week's color abilities are just hypnosis, which is a well established power system in of itself in the op universe with people like Jango. It was said in an SBS suuuuuuper long ago. Why not mention that during Moma's long color rant? :P

I think Haki has to be visible, because Gear Four uses a ton of Armament Haki, and I feel like if other characters weren't seeing it the same way we were, Oda would point it out. I have deeper theories, but I'll have to wait until later developments to dive into them.

I think there are two types of Haki. There is basic black Haki and then more advanced invisible Haki.

I thought it's the reverse. Basic level haki is invisible, and the stronger higher applications have the black coating.
