  • Brought to you by FUNKNSTUFF.NET and hosted by Scott Goldfine - musicologist and author of “Everything Is on the One: The First Guide of Funk” ― “TRUTH IN RHYTHM” is the interview show that gets DEEP into the pocket with contemporary music’s foremost masters of the groove.
Featured in this episode (Part 1 of 2; See Part 2 here -- • "TRUTH IN RHYTHM" - Ga... ): Singer-guitarist-composer Garrett Shider, a member of George Clinton’s P-Funk All-Stars and Parliament-Funkadelic. Garrett is the son of the late, great Parliament-Funkadelic frontman Garry Shider - also known as Starchild and Diaperman for his famous stage attire. Garry in many ways was the heart of the Funk Mob, lending his fantastically soulful vocals and underrated guitar playing to dozens of P-Funk classics and hundreds of concerts. After he tragically passed at just age 56 in 2010, Garrett stepped into his role with the band and is continuing to perpetuate his dad’s and P-Funk’s legacies. He has been touring with Clinton and Co. and also contributing in the studio including Funkadelic’s Shake the Gate album in 2014 and Parliament’s long anticipated Medicaid Fraud Dog. He recently released his first album under his own name, Hand Me Down Diapers, which in title and associated song is a tribute to his father. Read a review and purchase it here: funknstuff.net/...
In this two-part series, Shider talks being born into the Mothership, what his famous but in many ways unsung dad was really like, learning to embrace the P, and following in his father's fantastically funky footsteps. He also goes into depth about other key Funk Mob players, his trial by fire in becoming a band member, his own new album, and much more.

I went to see them one time as a very young fan. I brought an old album with me and waited for an autograph. Gary told Mike to go ahead and sign my album. I appreciated that and still remember it 40 years later.

Right on Garrett, I'm from the Bay and was able to see the landing of the mothership in Oakland in 1977... with Garry and Glen running the mic.... they seemed close....that 1975/1978 era was unmatched

Nice work... Garry IMHO is underrated across the board with Pfunk - Looking at the Old videos or listening to the catalog and focusing on him will reveal that.
