As others said in the comment, this is a seinen not a shonen, which is why you noticed that it's paced and structured very diferently from the usual popular shows. But you're in luck, because this is definitely one of the best seinens arounds, it's in a lot of people's top 5 mangas alongside Berserk, Vagabond, Kingdom and Monster. As for shows that I enjoy having loved Vinland Saga, it's more of the contemplative, character driven shows compared to action packed visual feasts that most shonens end up being. Stuff like: Monster Berserk (1997) Samurai Champloo Evangelion Dororo From the more popular shows that people usually recommend, I'd say Death Note and Hunter x Hunter are pretty good gateways into animes that don't just focus on fights and powers.
You're not going to understand everything that's happening in this show or the characters just yet, you're only about 10% or so into the story - things will get more clear as time goes on. People call it a "slow burn" for some, but for me it's one of the best animes/mangas I've seen
The best part is that in the next episode Askelad calls him a princes so they will feel like thats the confirmation of his gender but then in the next episode they just call him male and we hear his voice like nothing happen

People who like historical, saga-esque, mature anime. Anime has a wide genre that will have anything you like. Not everyone likes MHA, it is kiddish and isn't mature like Vinland Saga who actually tackles heavy subjects like religion, culture and history in general.

I was infinitely more bored watching Demon Slayer than Vinland Saga mate, if the animation wasn't this good I probably would have dropped it before the 5th episode. The story is boring and poorly written, and the characters are bland and inconsistent. Recommending Demon Slayer to someone watching Vinland Saga is on the level of recommending McDonalds to someone enjoying a gourmet burger :')
