I've just finished watching 4 episodes of Autogefühl from the Z4, to the Panamera, 8-series cabriolet and this 8-series coupé. I spent my Tuesday night wisely I would say. Started to fall in love with Autogefühl's episode from the CLA45 since I was doing some recce to get one of the facelift 2016-2018 model from the Malaysian unregistered import-used car market (It's almost like new with many extras than the base model and a lower price tag ranging up to 15-30% off of the new ones). A big thumbs up to Thomas & Autogefühl for making this brilliant episode! Keep it up with the good work. Love from Malaysia :)
Of all the car reviews you have done, this car seems like one that you should own. It just looks very well suited to you! That is meant as a compliment. BMW should give you this car as your insights from a buyers/owners perspective were really very helpful.
I once said I prefer the first gen of the 8 series ( probably due to the pop up lights) but now seeing this one here, I just love that design. I wouldn't go through " It looks like x or y ", many cars recently might look similar some how. Obviously if something is trendy and costumers want it, designers will go for it. Personally if it's an appealing design, I don't even care, I just admire it.
People complaining about the interior... Personally I love it. It's clean, not full of distractions, everything's obvious from a HID/UX point of view. I really don't like the gear selector though.
Bmw and Audi go for more simple interiors. That's their style. While on the other side.Mercedes has interiors in which more things are going on,which i like more. Some people like more simple interiors, some people like interiors like Mercedes. It's all just personal preference.Doesn't mean BMW or Mercedes make bad interiors if someone doesn't like them.
@@lukayonny5898 I agree, however I drove a 2 year old C63 a few weeks ago and the interior wasn't only a bit..ugly (in my opinion) but also felt extremely cheap considering the cost of the car. It also rattled terribly. I think with Mercedes, if the car's less than £150k it's not their best interior. Engine was awesome though.
Great video as always! I love your detailed review. I'm surprised that in Germany you can drive on a track without a helmet, here in the states, it is not allowed. You are a great driver.
Thomas, I like a lot your reviews and watch most of them. Your work is very thorough and Autogefuhl covers great cars. Why don't you try to give some more comments or use expressive opinions? I feel your videos lack these elements a little. They should be reviews, after all. Autogefuhl 4 life, bro!
I agree with you and respect that. You also know a lot more about car than an average viewer. Let us know if the chassis sucks or the front suspension is excellent, we'd love that.
The 8 is very good. Very comprehensive video, Thomas good as always. I personally like more the 8 gran coupe M in that brilliant green colour. Overall the 8 is great car with no real competition currently.
Hi ,Thomas , the exterior looks great ,super design. I like the interior unlike some of the comments , but I just feel it needed to be a bit more luxurious .It needed to stand out from the other BMW range which it doesn't really. So , exterior designers great job, interior designers just satisfactory job. It's still a great car though ,but I'd rather have the S-Class Coupe instead. Great review Thomas, you do one hell of a job there , well done!!
Wow ! Being a huge fan of BMW, I'm in love with this new 8 Series since the concept in June 2017. Sadly I regret the 6 Coupé and its interior curb design on central console. I owned an L6 3 Series Coupé E92 and this is the best car I had in my life. Next car I'll buy will be a BMW for sure. Thks Thomas for your review, as always very complete and cool like you 😉🇩🇪🚘
As a lot of people said, interior is the weak part of this car. Quality is 200% present but it lacks of creativity and stunning design, which make it not feel as luxury as an S-Class. This is my only grief about it
Ah yes, this is the one. Forget the X7 and X5 -- this is my dream car. What a beautiful machine. I think this would look fabulous in grey or red. The flipside is that despite the huge size of the car, there's less room in the back than there is in my Honda Jazz! Even you would fit in the back of my Honda Jazz quite easily, Thomas.
I couldn’t spend the money on this knowing I could have had the cheaper, faster, more practical M5 sitting in my garage. I’d choose substance over style in this case. Great video Thomas 👍
The interior again lacks imagination and possibly quality (not seen it in the flesh). It's their flagship model and yet still looks like a high mass based production vehicle (yes I know it is to an extent, but the interior shouldn't reflect that). Exterior is stunning, let down by interior design team in my opinion. I get that Icommand is the best in the market, so why is the rest of the interior aesthetic inferior?
Totally agree. This is there luxury GT, competition generally appears to have stolen a march on the interior, just my opinion. I think we should expect more from their flagship car, I assume the budget and resources are available. The exterior is stunning, and I bet it will drive like most BMW's, extremely well. I can't help thinking it's just not quite equal in its design quality compared to that of the exterior. A little like the Aston Martin Superleggera. Exterior, exceptional, you step inside and it disappoints. Interior nothing better than a standard DB11.
I am sure the quality of the materials are tip top. The use of the materials is what disappoints me a little. Just one person's opinion. There will be many who will love this lay out I'm sure.
If that is the new bmw infotainment can you now get turn directions on HUD when navigating with Apple CarPlay maps ? If so they will be the first OEM to do so
For all them haters out there claiming this looks exactly like a mustang quit the shit this looks nothing like it. Put them straight beside each other from every angle, and one can easily see the obvious differences. However one may wanna compare its side view a lot closer, but even then you can easily spot its difference. Yall honestly just wanna find somethin to straight talk trash regarding this magnificent piece of engineering. There shall always be those people out there who hate on greatness yo
Looking at your legs this is one car that needs a flat bottomed wheel! I saw this earlier in the year and sat in it and thought it’s very well made, the gesture controls work better in this car then other BMWs too. Big German brute of a muscle car with luxury haha!
To everyone talking about the interior, take a second and google the interior of the original 90's 8-series interior, it's there where you'll see the inspiration. Pretty simple.
Another great review by Autogefühl, but I not impressed by the car considering its flagship status within the BMW lineup. Still, I am curious to see the Grand Coupé version. It's always great to see car videos in my home area of Cascais/Sintra! 😎
2 very good questions here to the journalist trying the car: - isn’t it kinda dangerous to put the start&stop button near the driving mode buttons? Like you could accidentally hit the start button while willing to put your car on sport mode for example? - And isn’t it very slow to move the passenger seat? Like could you move it manually or you would have to wait for the seat to move automatically every-time???
Disagree. Mercedes styling means it looks like it could be a C or E class coupe to the untrained eye. It lacks uniqueness given it's price and due to it's similarities with lesser models, it really cheapens the design and experience.
The interior is quite sad and barely looks different from a 2 series. The side profile is nearly pure new model Mustang. Back with carbon fiber package looks like an overdone Camry XSE. If you get this over the LC 500 for a flagship coupe/GT you are out of your mind
The new Mercedes A has the same interior as the E- and C-Class, with the S having a bit more glamour. Compared to that, this isn't really that bad given it has the new BMW interior. The side profile is almost the same as the F13. The back end with the overdone exhausts does look a bit weird. But of you don't like overdone how on earth can you recommend a Lexus LC over this? Lexus' design language is such a mess that I don't understand how anyone would like it. Just the grille is just straight-up hideous.
I saw your comment and I thought you were exaggerating... saw the video and holy hell what did they do? Comparing it to a 2 series is not enough! that thing is a 114i base trim garbage. Looks horrible!
Dash design is very dull, rest of the car looks great, I agree. New Z4, 3 series etc all have very graceful designs. BMW is knoking it out of the park with the new design language!
Finally! A new BMW model that doesn't look horrible!!!.... I thought it would never happen again lol. Shame its one of their most expensive models so few people will be able to afford one. That orange/black combo is not nice but in the right colour it could look awesome. I wish the interior design had the same wow factor as the exterior....but then maybe this is meant to be the drivers car, not the luxury car like a 7 series?
Impressive on-track driving there Thomas! Very smooth steering inputs. Seems like maybe a 4 out of 5 car from your review. I’m not sure about the roofline, which seems quite flat and low at the rear. The current 4 series is a little the same. More of a curve and a little higher would help both looks and rear headroom I would suggest. The E92 coupe roofline was like I am trying to describe. As it is, I do see Mustang in the window shape, as others comment.
Woooow.... Just a German Musclebeast..... Great review from my favorite auto channel...... U should consider leaving the two cameras inside the car and putting a camera on ur head Thomas for a. REAL POV hhhhhhhhhhh just conider it i would love to see ur pov when driving

It’s a very striking car. Really exciting to look at. But so incredibly impractical. I’d just keep it with the seats folded down permanently (lower centre of gravity?). And I totally agree with having the right power for the car. When I was a kid playing Gran Turismo I would upgrade every car with every engine and turbo upgrade and ruin them all. Luckily I grew out of that :) Still play GT of course but just drive the cars as they are. I love to be able to put my foot down and enjoy that, and you can’t really do that with higher performance cars for very long at all, if it’s even possible. They’re like superbikes, way too capable for road riding.
I loved the 2015 650 cabrio. I am waiting to see how the 850 cabrio will compare. Are they about the same size, Thomas? Also, the rear seats in the 650 were a joke as well. I think that those are included only for the sake of lower insurance costs (2 seats are considered more "sporty" in that business?)
To be perfectly honest this car is an amazing redesign of the 635i, identical identity. This (for me) isn't the 8 series replacement. The 850 CSI is an amazing and unique car. Far more sophisticated than this one, and I hope BMW launch it as what really was and stands for. Maybe for the next generation.
I love the clean lines of the interior. It's classic BMW. Not everyone wants a Las Vegas casino style interior

This car looks incredible, i clicked the video as soon as a seen it. Amazing work guys, always enjoy your videos.
Excellent review and succinct spot-on summary! Almost too droll a delivery, but always the most informative and well considered presentation.

Thanks for the review!! You gave us an opportunity to see this vehicle....

appreciated !!
Wow Thomas. So Mustang, so Shelby. Fantastic car. Great presentation.
Nice review! That is called a burbling sound :)) Getting out of the back seat was a workout lol Given a choice; the M5 is the one!
I think it sounds nicer than the new M5, you can actually hear it growl a bit.
I agree, the M5 is a limo sounding POS. Maybe competition package +Sports package would make it have soul.
As a BMW fan, I’m really disappointed with the interior of this car. i honestly think it doesn’t stand a chance against the S class coupe
Because you lack the bucks? Yes, it must be truly awful.
You cant be a BMW fan, because if you were, you would know the 8 Series is NOT a S class rival. It is a Aston martin DB11, AMG GT and a 911 rival!
people are angry. calm down.
@@MasterSteve_117 nahh man,you're wrong
BMW officially says it, in the video thomas says it, so how can i be wrong?
Sells the car for me. BMW should hire this guy.

Best way to understand this car is to assume this is the new 6 series but they decided to name it 8 series.
32:22 - hmm...stops in the middle of the road right after a 180 degree turn. A bit sketchy.
17:00 i think the car shouldve had a slightly smaller trunk so the leg room wouldnt be so bad in the back. depends on what people want though
What's the difference between the coupe and the normal one?
How does the steering feel/feedback compare with that of the M5? Many thanks for sharing
Great review as always Thomas, beautiful color and exterior, but this is a rather disappointing interior for a 100k euro++ car , steering wheel and instrument cluster is same as Z4 or 3 series, and central console is very dull :(

For whom can buy, it is great coupe :), exterior is great, but I agree with most that interior is similar to all other BMW models.

How does that exhaust sound go again, Thomas?
Hmm, should I buy this or the new T Cross you also reviewed today? 🤔
Thomas, do you think the 8 series can compete with the 911 or maybe atleast the AMG GT?
In pricing for sure hehe.. all with little different focus
Autogefühl that is true.. i wonder what the time will be at the m850i

M3 E46
BMW M1. The Z4M is a delicious little coupé and the 1M is its rude little brother. Give them a try if you have the means.
Bmw does not have Super sport.... Those are just normal series production cars with stronger Engines....What define Super sport is someting different.
Unfortunately, they said that they had no interest in making a super car, they would rather focus more on the M division
That's so true. I don't understand why haven't done that. They have the means but not the will.
