All forms can be blended with enough skill, the master takes the best of everything and adapts to suit their technique and style. I use BJJ, M.T , SMB and W.C with some SLT
In a real-life scenario, that blade could just as easily be held 90 degrees from the angle shown in the demonstration, and you'd be pressing your hand against the sharp side of the blade, no?
In my opinion, this is just demonstration and trainning, plus everything shown in video is just highligt from the seminar, the real secret is behind the video. About the scenario, you think he doesnt know that, of course he know. If you want to know more, learn it. Be his student, observation is not enough. Even eskrima or kali master attend his seminar to learn his knowledge. Empty your cup in order to fill it again.
Like any art it requires training, but it is actually easier than people think to get the flat part of the blade. Second, in all southerneastern Asian arts if there is a knife, you should also have a knife, or an equalizing tool. Maul is just teaching one part of his art.
@aniqilah4939 @whiteowlmartialarts thanks - my comment wasn't aimed at discrediting the video by the way, it's because i'm interested in understanding the technique. I've seen some of Mauls videos, and I have great respect for him. I've started training with a local gym, loving it!
@@rukubucks1999 I could tell your question was genuine. I hear this one a lot from students. It’s a valid one and a good one. There are many disarms using your hand, arms, or body against the flat of the blade. You can use the attackers own limbs and body as well. If you do get cut trying to do this it will be minimal damage to you as long as it’s done correctly. Part of knife fighting is learning how to take cuts and minimize the damage. However, the primary disarm we use in these arts is called “Defanging the Snake.” This involves cutting, breaking, or smashing the hand so it cannot hold a weapon. The attacker will drop the weapon immediately due to the damage or losing his fingers. Disarming from the flat would be a secondary disarm. Good luck in your training!
Maybe, but his friend yes, his friend be able to survive the knife attack by using his technique. Even Kali or Eskrima master attend his seminar, why? Because they know the only martial arts who has the best self defense in knife fighting is only Silat and Filipino martial arts. Both arts is like 2 face in one coin, different view, different strategy so they learn from each other. Thats my opinion, we can agree to disagree.
thank you, as always sir!
Genius
Awesome… very necessary in today’s world..
Can ninjitsu be mixed with silat?

You obviously don’t know anything of Maul. He comes from a fighting family in Brunei.
