Water from Medigadda barrage will be lifted to Annaram Barrage, from there to Sundilla Barrage from there to Saripada sagar Yellampalli. The pumping is done to supply water from the downstream barrages to the upstream reservoirs. The primary reason is that the Medigadda barrage gets more water due to the additional discharges from tributary rivers of Godavari. From there, tunnel systems start and at the end of the tunnels, there will be large underground pumping stations that will pump the water up to higher grounds.
