- The Indiana Fever returned to the court on Tuesday for practice at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. After having Monday off following their loss in Chicago, ending a four-game win streak, the focus in film and on the court was on defense and communication. And, as always, patience to see this thing through.
After practice, Caitlin Clark, Aliyah Boston and head coach Christie Sides answered questions from reporters.

It's impossible to not love this girl. When you watch her play as a fan or former player, like I am - it's quite impossible to not see the separation between her skill and all but a few in the W, BUT... the most important part is how well-spoken she is, and how well she represents herself and the sport. In sports, great role models are extremely rare. Meaning: great player = great person. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Barry Sanders, George Brett, Tom Brady and Caitlin Clark. I could listen to her talk all day. Not about race, gender or controversy - she's just a sweetheart, with a great brain. Her parents should be unbelievably proud.
hahaha, well, yeah. It is always refreshing when you see a former student athlete who actually GOT AN EDUCATION while at university. So often you see former student athletes who haven't even learned proper English grammar after four or more years of university studies.

Everyone was right in saying the coach always goes out of her way to congratulate other players for doing something great except for Caitlin. She didn't even give her a call or text for winning a prestigious award last night.
Sides is no Lisa Bluder. Lisa is a person of faith who instilled in her players a wealth of life learnings. Bluder is special. I do not see anywhere near this level of leadership and wisdom from Sides. Sides talks about Caitlin being less selfish but with the attention she will naturally draw, if you wanted your best shooter to shoot more, you need to have the team work at getting her open! Iowa did this masterfully despite the attention Caitlin got in college. Good god - open shots for Caitlin need to be part of the plan - they will not just happen like they do for the rest of the team. But if you want to win close games down the stretch, you better get your head on straight and start multiple screening for her, so that the ball is in the hands of the greatest clutch shooter in history. Just take a look what Golden State does for Curry - this is not rocket science but for this team, it seems that this is over the coaches head.

Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston are great representatives for the Indiana Fever. They are always classy with their comments, very well spoken, and intelligent with their comments. They are both humble, great ball players, and great role models. Thanks for keeping it classy ladies!

The defense needs work, but you also can't leave Nalyssa Smith on Angel Reese for the whole game with no help. I feel like the coach is not talking about what needs to be discussed. Sides said she wished Caitlin would have taken a shot on the play with the loose ball. If you watch that play again, there are 3 defenders waiting on Caitlin and the only play was to Kristy Wallace. I don't like the coach calling out her rookie like that. Especially after watching the film, it was clear she made the right basketball play. How about the film that shows when Erica Wheeler enters the game Catlin never gets the ball back and the offense just bogs down. Still salty about that last loss :)

Wallace stumbled, it happens. But yeah that was the right play. If CC tries to cut back to the middle into multiple defenders, she likely gets trapped or loses the ball. She’s not the strongest dribbler in the open court. Throwing ahead to a streaking teammate was the right decision.

And praised how proud she was. Think about it, when has Sides ever been honestly and openly a positive leader for Caitlin in her rookie year? We have rookies like Kate, and Angel that get drafted to teams that actually appreciate the players, while in Indiana Caitlin gets a dufus of a coach that doesn't know what to do with a talented rookie.
I suspect Sides has the same attitude of many of the older vets that this is a different game and she has to learn it. The problem is that Clark is exceptionally smart, dedicated to learning and is producing at an envious level.

I agree, coach Sides doesn't seem to have CC22's back. Almost as if she's making sure that CC doesn't excel in the league. Just a bad gut feeling coming from the coach. She has a southern accent, so her voice is placed more in the throat, rather than forward in her mouth. So therefore, when she has to get loud, it’s more muscle/throat rather than air/resonance.

This young lady is so professional I’m glad she delete her social media accounts on her phone after losing the game with Chicago Sky. She doesn’t need that in her life thank Lisa Bluder for that she told her players if you want to post something go ahead BUT don’t read what people write about it could hurt you. Has Christie Sides ever said that to anyone on the team I doubt it. I don’t think I would be that grateful to someone I couldn’t stand. I give her a lot of credit for the way she carries herself. Is Sides communicating something to the contrary in one on one conversations to CC? And Sides admits she didn't congratulate CC on winning the Honda award...

CC is navigating her first year. I am a super fan from Korea, and I hate to see social media absolutely trash Sides and CC’s teammates over a loss. CC is that unique, and league was not ready for CC. Give the league and this team some time! Give Sides some time managing this unit. If Fever doesn’t gel by the end of 2nd year, I’ll also join the hate wagon, but putting unrealistic expectations on a young team, and CC less than 20 games in a season is just comical at this point. It’s just that I hate to see a “rookie” player, even if it is extraordinary CC, being the reason for a mid season fire of a coach who is obviously acclimating to her new role as a HC. Seems like Sides is out there to prove herself, but also sacrificing CC’s true potential while at it. I think she will change her way! Hence, why I think it’s better to see how this season unravels, and maybe until end of next season. Caitlin is a real warrior for sure. But it seems to me that she’s been through a lot of mental and physical tests. I know she’s extremely competitive but I feel that she needs to get this season over with so she can get some much needed rest for her body and her mind and to get get rejuvenated. If she is able to stay healthy I hope she will be able to enjoy a long career doing what she loves to do.

I think it was one matchup that killed them in the 4Q but Caitlin is right in terms of pointing out the offense. They scored 15 points in the 4Q. They have to rebound the ball better but Chicago has twin towers so at least keep the scoreboard moving. Sometimes it's offense that will win especially if you're ahead by more than 10. Learn from the L and go to the next games because they are tough opponents. Chicago was a winnable game they lost and that's all. Late Angel make it out to be a playoff like win and her coming out party. For Caitlin and Boston and the Fever, it was a game they gave away and move on.

I would love to see Celeste in the game. I watched her in the big 10 and she is a fast defender. I'm also a new wnba fan and have enjoyed watching Lexie Hull on defense, the quickness and face guarding are great.

CC articulate very well and know how to handle herself with all her interviews....rather than a lot of other veterans players and even some coaches!!!
Why was Wheeler in there in the fourth quarter? Who has two point guards in the same time and why was wheeler the one running point and CC sitting on her behind?
Yes. When your team is up by 12 to 15 points in avgamecor quarter, you can still try for two to three more baskets. Because, the other team is trying to get half of those points back.
Having those extra two or three baskets can help more, by the end of a close game.

So Sides hasn't talked to Caitlin yet about the Honda Award OR that Caitlin should take more shots? It's been 2 days! Oh, I forgot, they're working on defense today and she's just too busy. I honesty don't think Sides gives a rat's arse about CC22. She doesn't respect her, evidenced by her coaching decisions and lack of enthusiasm towards CC22. That coach stresses me out because I'm not confident in her leadership nor her ability to coach the team.
She gives the most professional and poised takes that never throw anyone under the bus, and for that, I hope she has a long and successful career.
Little girls need role models like this, not wannabe instagram models who act ratchet and talk in a way that doesnt exude professionalism or a lack of respect for anything besides themselves.
With that being said, they need to fire Sides and get rid of Wheeler.

1. How could Could she not call Caitlin herself and congratulate her on winning that award? Did you hear how she said “no she didn’t speak to her on it …but that she should …. Then she said they were all on a group text the night before so CC got some thing from the team there. !!’ That shows she really has no ❤ for CC.
Also… she spoke about the team focusing all the practice time pretty much on defense….she should have spent some time on running some / many different offensive schemes ….but nope.
She still low key throw CC under the bus with the comment … “I think she should be a little less unselfish “ when she knows she’s the reason CC is passing the ball more than she should.

CC is an amazing talent. She is smart, articulate, modest. I really like Boston also, I believe Boston and CC are trying to win games. Some of the other girls might not be putting the team first, not sure but some of the decisions are questionable, including coach. For the coach not to congratulate Caitlin for the Honda Award is ridiculous and shows she doesn’t care about her. That’s a prestigious award and she is in elite company with only a few other young ladies to receive it twice.
I hope half of the practice was dedicated to catching passes from Clark on the fast break. Coach also needs to be schooled on making proper defensive adjustments to not screw with the offensive production.
As a fan, Coach Sides does not offer energy or insight into the game. This coach is an observer in the process and contributes nothing but status quo guidance.

I know CC would never do this, with her great attitude, but what if the last 7 seconds she just said to herself, " you know coach, you and a few other players froze me out most of the 4th quarter, so here, take the last shot yourselves!" They did, and look what happened!

Look at the shot map. Most is not all of the Sky's shots were made in the paint feet from the goal. Reese has a way of rebounding her own missed shots driving up her rebound record then taking making the second shot from under the hoop.

Great interview! Like I said, the Fever can only get better and hats off to Christie for her excellent job as a coach. This is a team effort no matter how popular or skilled any player might be, one reaches the top as a team. Perfect example: The NBA finals, Boston played more as a team than Dallas did and despite Kyrie's Greatness and Lucas Growth as an MVP player, they alone cannot make up for the lack of team effort to win.

The entire team hasn’t learned how to make a good consistent screen. They get close enough to the defender or they break to the basket to early and never try to set a second screen.
