My instructor at my residential electrical class at college used your videos for teaching aids for showing us how to wire a house. Learned a lot watching your videos. Thanks. 😊
@@Onlyonelifeforall This is such a ignorant question. Why wouldn't their be class's for residential electrical? Sure you could learn everything through an apprenticeship but so could teachers, nurses ect. Most jobs can be learnt just by having some random joe show you the ropes but atleast with a course you learn how to do everything the proper way.
When I first started I was boxing out the lowers and chasing tools and doing make up work on outlets. Bust your ass, pay attention and you will gradually work your way into pulling wire and boxing out overhead.
It’s hard to get a house that’s empty really. There is just so much information to give on Electrical it’s hard to know where to start, just kinda filming what’s natural for me . Thanks for watching
@@BETTERELECTRIC This is good bro. I'm 2 months in and have only done roughs so far. This is a good series. It breaks everything down in order and honestly, the noise is part of the job. We gotta get used to it anyways. I knew most of what you said but there were a couple things that definitely filled in some blanks for me. Good video!
Thank you for this video. There are dozens of “how to” videos on how to make up a box but not many on where to put them. Your walk through and discussion of the thought process is very helpful!
I work at a electric supply shop and I’ve always wondered what was the process for all the products we sell and after seeing this video it’s so cool to see the products I delivered assembled into what we don’t see behind the walls.
Dude! Been cruising YT for wiring videos it's almost midnight and "Bang!". I find yours. Insta-sub. I'm about to tackle a small pier and beam 1950s house rewire. Can't wait to get my notepad out and go to school. THANK YOU!
Love your work and logic. Here's an idea which may save time, go around with cans of colored spay paint to mark switch and outlet locations rather than using a marker.
Kinda hard to write out the symbols and descriptions accurately and efficiently on a little 2x4 stud with spray paint. The marker is easier to see than a pencil but still fast and a fine enough tip to write notes.
I agree with the layout. One thing I always do during lay out is carry my story stick and go ahead and mark switch height. i carry it around and mark all heights for switches, washer, dryer, kitchen counter height and bathroom receptacle heights, while walking through that way my goons cant mess it up. oh wait they still mess it up . LOL great vid.
Understandable being nervous but you did an awesome job brother, keep the informative content up and the rest will come with time. Maybe post production you can put pop-ups with what you are explaining or laying out and why, just food for thought.
Thanks for the videos, man. I gotta run my own truck soon and I'm nervous as fuck, so this is real helpful to brush up and make sure I'm not forgetting anything
Bro we can add more receptacle or plugs with washing machine plugs or not and other questions is kitchen GFCI with living rooms plugs or not really i can learn by yours videos
Hey, great vid bro, im looking to get into the trade , doing some reseach online before i do and all, ergo watching this video for starters , you did a great job brother, i just subscribed, looking forward to the next vids, be safe out there , 2 big thumbs up.
May I ask for the walk in closest that usually inside a bedroom. Do we need to put a receptacle in them? And those tiny closest for storage, not bigger than 5ft x 5ft? thanks in advance
After living in about >10 houses and being in my sixties I've learned that you tell the Agent where you want your plugs at," because only you know where you want your shit🤣🤣🤣🤣 and they relay information to builders. Builder updates Floorplan so the poor electrician doesn't have the Assume. Great vid excellent content.
I get the impression that this guy doesn't care what you want. I heard him mention a few times that he "isn't going to do any more work than what he has to". He is in the kicking out production homes mindset and not what the home owner wants.
He's an electrician on-the-job and doing a good, clear presentation - All while the roofers are banging away up above. ..So I'll give him an "A" for doing so well in Episode #1, even without a microphone!
@@rickjones6414 both of these comments are true at the same time for me! They are doing a great job, a mic next to his mouth would make the quality so much better, wouldn’t cost very much at all and when he turns away from the camera he will still be heard
What state do you do work in? I am in Alabama, got injured on commercial job and was sent to baby sit residential guys, so some code questions come up and I am lost, I was told a kitchen light has to be on it's on circuit which makes NO SENSE. Most kitchen switch boxes have the porch light and flood lights maybe a dining area light kitchen light maybe a fan switch lots of box fill , so why the hell would the code say to put a kitchen light on it's on circuit? If you can give reference # for a correction I would appreciate it . I get aggravated with the house wiring and really aggravated when I dont know the actual way I can do it and still be in code . I need a video on a 3 or 4 bedroom circuit layout , see how you guys run your homeruns and branch circuits and compare , learn new ways to adapt or pull rooms in better ways
1:58 "You need a receptacle within 6' of a door." 2:13 "You have to have a receptacle ever 12' of another receptacle." This electrician says "have to" and "need". Does he mean "cannot be"?
i really like the format of the video. but i cant hear half of what youre saying. i think getting some mics that you can wear will go miles in terms of your production. otherwise i really like this video series and thank you
I guess the windows are code req, otherwise you just leave off the window that shows a beautiful view of a wall of vinyl siding haha people are packed in like crazy now.
U better hurry up young butcher. One house one day. That’s all u get in residential. Better not be taking trips to the bathroom or truck for parts. No lunch either. If a house doesn’t get done in one day the company will be going to shit cause of the trips back. Residential is nothing but a ridiculous rush cause the builders don’t pay shit and make it hard to get paid for extras and changes. I work with two guys. One does low boxes and the other does lighting boxes while I mark out. We are expected to get a house done in a day. It’s getting very old rushing around with your head cut off
You need a microphone and your cameraman needs to be IN YOUR SHT. We can't see what's going on in your plans and we're studying for future careers here. By 3:38 I'm already pissed that I can't hear, can't see and I'm looking for another video set even though this is an actual job.
Most of these required measurements are unnecessary. I understand keeping switches and outlets away from water sources but requiring an outlet to be within a certain distance of a countertop or within 2 feet of a cabinet are stupid. Code has gotten way out of hand.
Great example of a good idea spoiled in execution. The nail guns and hammering destroy this video. The video was useful but the presenter should have had a mike so when he speaks while facing away from the camera the words are not lost to the background noise. How about adding rolling text across the bottom of the screen?
Great video but Holy hell the voice recognition is terrible here. It’s hilarious how bad it is, the mechanics over lords behind the scenes interpreted on of the sentences as you saying “blessing Buddhist books” when what you actually say was not at all that. Hopefully the censorship hasn’t included religious wording yet.
A version of a wire dispenser, not same as his, but probably close to it. Someone asked about. www.amazon.com/dp/B01CW3C4FQ/?coliid=I3BZ9TVEXUTMZU&colid=NGGA69WDA1UE&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it&th=1

Why is there a college for residential wiring...? You can literally know everything in a year or less when you are in apprenticeship

probably the best electrical wiring tutorial on the tube. Good stuff man thanks.
Agree!
Thank you and your wife for spending the time in making these excellent videos.
Appreciate the video, as a beginner, i would love a video that breaks down the basics of electrical wiring a house may be in a quieter place haha

Thanks for spending the time making these. Building my own place in northern Minnesota this year. Hoping to wire it myself. Thanks.
Great Job. I would love to see one of these with a crawl space since that is the standard in my area.
Great video. It gives insight on laying out the space and touched on some code along the way. This will come in handy when I start on my basement.

What’s the appropriate way to strap Romex wire to concrete
How do you measure the height of the switches? Is there a practical way?
Switches goes about 48invhes from the floor
Outlets 12 inches from floor center
Easy way is piecebof conduit mark it at 48 and 12
gustavo medina thanks for the answer
I just use my hammer as a means of measurement for low plugs, alot of companies make everyone have the same hammer for this reason
Mark on the floor with a marking crayon or spray paint if it's not going to be covered by carpets or tile.
Great video, once you get a mic on yourself it should really cut out the other background noises. :)
