Really simple but good looking sculpin. I always feel like I'me cheating a bit using those sculpin helmets. Not so much I won't use on though! Great looking variants at the end of the video. Thanks for sharing. All the best, Sean
There has ro be a more efficient way to build that chenille body. That buldge at the front of the abdomen creates a looseness in the chenille, and the first couple I tied weren't very tight. I build up the underbody with 140 thread and have noticed absolutely no difference in hookup rate. Just in case others don't feel the wrapping technique here serves them well. Cheers
Awesome pattern! Thanks John and Tim 👍

As always, great video!
First time out, caught some smallmouth bass in high, stained water. Olive in size 4. Nice fly!

If you were to choose one fly would it be this fly or the snowflake sculpin
Looks like all that body build up really did a good job of closing off the hook gap.....any problem with short changed/missed fish?
No problem what so ever as far as hook gap is concerned. After the chenille is trimmed the hook gap is fine.
good vid
What brand of chenille is that? I can't find a "Fluffy/medium" chenille anywhere.
Any medium will work.
nice
Are you painting the helmets to match the body of the fly?
Max Inchausti you can get different size and color fish skull brand sculpin heads
what brand sculpin helment did you use?
Flymen Fishing Company
how big would you go for smallies cuz lO is a little small
I fish a #4, nice size.
The 10 is a bit too small IMO. I fish an 8 and find it to work well.
