Cartman is a horrible person. I’m pretty sure that Stan, Kyle, and Kenny only stay friends with him because they’re scared of what he’ll do to them if they stop being friends (Scott Tenorman is an example).
He genuinely tried to help him until he found out at the lab. Cartman still cried and tried to find a cure. Pretty sure he would have also used the stemcells to help if there was time. Kenny just died too soon.
