The only reason Yoko came around recording sessions is because John was a jealous, controlling abuser and wouldn't let her out of his sight. He even made her come into the restroom with him so he could have eyes on her at all times.
Conflicting artistic viewpoints and ego broke up the Beatles. John and George in particular felt being in the band was restrictive. George was tired of having his songs overlooked by John and Paul. Paul's tendency to take the lead on most projects after Brian Epstein died and try to act as the bandleader was a bone of contention for the other three, especially John. They would have broke up regardless, Yoko coming in when she did was and still is just a convenient scapegoat for those not willing to look into it deeper.

Phil Collins wanted nothing to do with singing post-Gabriel departure. They tried a million singers before feeling that nobody could do the music justice, and he fell ass backwards into it. Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford were the ones who grew tired of prog and just wanted to make pop tunes, and I feel they sneakily pushed him into Gabriel’s shoes. Phil was an amazing drummer with prog rock/jazz fusion side projects, highlighting the fact that he just wanted to stay behind the kit. I don’t think he knew the whole time that he was a songwriter for the ages, rather he embraced it after reluctantly stepping into the spotlight. He didn’t even sing until Genesis’ sixth album.
Dexenation Gracey In my opinion Phil has a better voice. They’re totally different but his range and clarity surpass Peter’s. They both had very unique voices appropriate for the band.
Nick Colantonio I meant he sounded similar at that time, not in general. 80's Phil sounds much different from 80's Peter, but their 70's voices are similar in tone.
I don't have any issue with that, neither Peter Gabriel stayed with prog. But the majority of pop tunes they wrote lack of the most important thing for a good pop song: melody. Also their dependence in synthesizers settle down their discography of that era. Except for the self titled album, that was good
Technically, the sixth album was Phil's first lead singing moment. He sang some background and/or shared vocals with Gabriel prior. The person's Tweet and your elaboration are both spot-on. Rush is my favorite band but Collins is an immensely overlooked drummer at-large. Recognized in the prog rock circle, but not really beyond it.
Even though I don't like Yoko, I agree with you completely. Although her presence in the studio, all the time, while they were recording definitely didn't help matters when the tensions were already building between the four.
That Flat Earth B.O.B. take was so accurate- if Kanye, for example, announced that he believed the world was flat, I doubt he'd be the next B.O.B. He's said some contentious things too and still has a rock solid fan base because he knows how to stay relevant.
If Yoko Ono hadn't broken up The Beatles, they would have surely seen their plan come to fruition to conquer the mortal realm. Their music would have absolutely seized the minds of the weak to overwhelm the last remnants of resistance to make Yellow Submarine the anthem of the universe.
Nirvana's story is the greatest ambition I've ever heard to make music. They started because they felt that mainstream rock at the time was soft and decided to make their own music to fill the void. That's like an actual old head who always says, "hip hop is dying" making music and becoming so great, they create an entirely separate subgenre. I just really like that motivation.
@@skeletonbusdriver130 I mean, I love me some Nirvana, but that's kind of silly. If everyone only knows them for smells like teen spirit (largely untrue), and they think that makes them one of the most transcendent bands to ever exist...that sort of implies they're being overrated based on literally one song.
I remember finding this channel when I was much younger finding it boring and pointless, but still watching tons of it (I watched RUclips for the sake of it). since then my taste have been “refined” and it quickly is becoming one of my favorite channels on the site. The stuff it covers in music is quite niche and Anthony is pretty strongly opinionated (which I like) but once you understand his understanding of music and the context he provides it’s like learning another language or new way of thinking. k
Even so, part of it doesn't mean cause of it. There's a great video on RUclips that dives into what caused The Beatles to break up: everything from the decision to stop touring, to the direction Paul wanted to take The Beattles in with Sargent Pepper, to the management- all of that contributed to their break up, but for some reason people always blame solely Yoko. She's a shitty person but she didn't singlehandedly break up The Beattles
I feel the Yoko myth is more because it's 'common knowledge' like an ostrich supposedly burying its head in the sand than any kind of latent or overt sexism. Most people just believe the thing they first heard.
@@thoremblem3625 Also, let’s not forget the racism. Being a Japanese woman being involved with “breaking up” a white Anglo-Irish group of men would certainly bring up some WWII propaganda.
if she did have any role, it was most likely giving lennon that last little push to do his own thing, but that would've been something brewing his mind already and i can't fault her for it. that's what being a supportive spouse is. i think fans forget that musicians are people who have their own wants and desires and just treat them like music vending machines.
Its also kinda ironic that he says he hates that song right after praising the Beatles.. It wasnt written by the Beatles but Paul who helped write a majority of their music.
I say this knowing nothing about The Beatles lore but even if Yoko Ono did break up The Beatles so what I mean if Lennon chose his gf/wife over continuing thats his choice to do so. Everyone is an adult who can make decisions on their own accord.
That's wasn't the common story until most recently. The Beatles are a huge cultural phenomenon and someone wanted to be THE cause of their breakup. Yoko Ono was a convenient scapegoat for decades.

Paul McCartney did say it was John who broke The Beatles recently on The Howard Stern Show, and that it was closely related to his relationship with Yoko. Of course it's impossible to know what would've happened had Yoko not been there, and it's arguable that they would've split anyways, and I do agree that where people put the emphasis on the band breaking up can reveal sexist attitudes, but there's no denying that in the way the chips fell Yoko was a huge factor in The Beatles breakup.
That's John's fault for letting that happen, he chose and made all those decisions. He was a grown ass man, if he chose to put her in everything that's his fault not some crazy Japanese woman.

Let’s argue: Cal Chuchesta is funnier than the melon
Let’s agree*
That’s factual
Kanye West - "Facts"(Charlie Heat Version)

Nick Colantonio It also helped that he just happened to sound similar enough to Peter Gabriel.
"Pac-Man will be trash in the new Smash."
OOF, that tweet aged horribly.
5.05 - It's 'SIMPLY having a wonderful Christmas time'...
And you call yourself a music nerd. Shame on you, Melon.
Skateboard J don’t you mean 5:05?
That bass intro gave me cancer and then healed it. Thanks Melon
Even though I don't like Yoko, I agree with you completely. Although her presence in the studio, all the time, while they were recording definitely didn't help matters when the tensions were already building between the four.
Could you please do a video where you teach us the basics of playing the bass?
That Flat Earth B.O.B. take was so accurate- if Kanye, for example, announced that he believed the world was flat, I doubt he'd be the next B.O.B. He's said some contentious things too and still has a rock solid fan base because he knows how to stay relevant.
aged like fucking milk

Nirvana is overrated
@@agustinares930 You can't really say they are overrated when everybody only knows them for smells like teen spirit

Paul McCartney said that Lennon broke up the beatles, and that yoko was a part of it
Yeah, people might be missing the point here. Weird that he didn't mention that.
The real reason the Beatles broke up were the friends we made along the way
And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make.

I feel the Yoko myth is more because it's 'common knowledge' like an ostrich supposedly burying its head in the sand than any kind of latent or overt sexism. Most people just believe the thing they first heard.
Thoritorium the rumor didn’t come out of nowhere though, the origins definitely had at least a tint of sexism
@@thoremblem3625
Also, let’s not forget the racism. Being a Japanese woman being involved with “breaking up” a white Anglo-Irish group of men would certainly bring up some WWII propaganda.
Take a look at each Beatles immediate follow up to the break up they were drifting apart musically
Egoism broke up the Beatles 🤷🏻♀️
nah, it was nancy spungen and courtney love. true fact.
I agree immensely
As in "they wanted to do their own thing", yes. And that's absolutely fine.
if she did have any role, it was most likely giving lennon that last little push to do his own thing, but that would've been something brewing his mind already and i can't fault her for it. that's what being a supportive spouse is. i think fans forget that musicians are people who have their own wants and desires and just treat them like music vending machines.
Thank God. Imagine if they were releasing shitty music. Let their amazing discography be (pun intended).
Wow, you hate that Christmas song so much you don't even know the lyrics. Nice.
I was just about to comment that lol.
Its also kinda ironic that he says he hates that song right after praising the Beatles.. It wasnt written by the Beatles but Paul who helped write a majority of their music.
I was bummed out because I kinda like that song. But it also is annoying depending on what mood I'm in.
Yes and I hate that song 2
It sounded like you were playing a slower version of the bass intro to the theme of Honey Speedway from Spyro: Year of the Dragon.
yeah, i kinda was.
Next let’s argue: “Good artists copy, great artists steal.”
As soon as you mentioned the one worst Christmas song I KNEW you were about to hit me with that chorus. right on

On The First Day of Christmas, My Melon Gave To Me,
"HOUSE OF BALLOONS IS A THREEEEE"

Hell, I'd say Ween is more underrated, aside from Ocean Man

They've started playing christmas music at my work, and i've realized my least favorite type of christmas songs are the ones where some pop singer just says the word christmas over and over and that's supposed to be a chorus
