    Conflicting artistic viewpoints and ego broke up the Beatles. John and George in particular felt being in the band was restrictive. George was tired of having his songs overlooked by John and Paul. Ringo was tired of Paul's ever-increasing tendency to either coach Ringo's drumming on Paul's songs, or Paul just drumming himself on them and leaving Ringo out. Paul's tendency to take the lead on most projects after Brian Epstein died and try to act as the bandleader was a bone of contention for the other three, especially John. They would have broke up regardless, Yoko coming in when she did was and still is just a convenient scapegoat for those not willing to look into it deeper.

    • @ewest14
      @ewest14 3 года назад +13

      You’re putting too much on Paul. The main reason they broke up was because John just wanted to do something else and because of Allen Klein which was John’s fault. Paul was the one trying to keep it together

    • @Clean.Eastwood
      @Clean.Eastwood 6 лет назад +85

      @@peterpansie5 i mean, in the big picture, she wasn't even that important of a factor. Let's see
      -Paul was assuming a great deal of control, which was necessary, but John kinda resented that
      -Paul and John rejected a lot of George's compositions, and he felt really tossed aside and not that important (there are songs by him about this issue) and he felt REALLY stressed during the last times of the band (Wah-Wah)
      -All four of them had different ambitions by 1969 (Paul wanted to do more pop oriented music, Ringo started an acting carreer) For the context of the band, most of this differences were irreconciliables.
      -EDIT: The FUCKING FINANCIAL PROBLEMS the band was having was one of the main sources of stress, moreso than Yoko.
      When you look at all the differences and problems within the band, Yoko was really the most superficial of all.

    I think if you heavily generalize the "moods" of pop music into "happy" and "sad", then they go back and forth all the time. Between 2004 and 2014 (by my best reckoning, I don't follow pop all that closely) pop music was generally happy and most popular songs had the "party tonight because tomorrow doesn't matter" vibe to them (for example: Give Me Everything, Till the World Ends, Party Rock Anthem). And while it's not necessarily dominating the charts, sad music is quickly becoming mainstream. Take, for example, the success of artists like Lil Peep, $uicideBoy$, and XXXTentacion in recent years. Years ago, the topics they touch on (suicide, depression, loneliness) wouldn't be considered appropriate for a mainstream audience, but here we are.
    It's almost like all that partying led to a Great Depression within music

      @@jaiden3473 Yea I am no conspiracy theorist, but Kurt Cobain's death isn't as straightforward as people think. In the months before his death, he was planning to "exit" the music scene except for an indie acoustic project he was working on, and parts of his suicide letter share phrasing and sentences with the letter he wrote about leaving the music scene. Also, there is the amount of heroin he had in him before being shot, which even for a highly opiate tolerant person would have pretty much instantly debilitated him.
      Not to mention he and Courtney were very openly having issues, estate matters and whatnot. Personally, Im not ready to say Courtney DID have an active hand in his death, but I think there is enough oddities around the circumstance that isnt exactly "unfair" to question it.

      That's a healthy attitude to have. I'm deeply appreciative of the music they made together. I'm also kinda glad they broke up when they did because at some point they all wanted to do different things and had been playing with each other for so long that obviously they wouldn't the same people they were when they started recording music. They grew apart and had other artistic endeavors they were more interested in. It's far better than them making more albums when their hearts weren't in it.

    Phil Collins wanted nothing to do with singing post-Gabriel departure. They tried a million singers before feeling that nobody could do the music justice, and he fell ass backwards into it. Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford were the ones who grew tired of prog and just wanted to make pop tunes, and I feel they sneakily pushed him into Gabriel’s shoes. Phil was an amazing drummer with prog rock/jazz fusion side projects, highlighting the fact that he just wanted to stay behind the kit. I don’t think he knew the whole time that he was a songwriter for the ages, rather he embraced it after reluctantly stepping into the spotlight. He didn’t even sing until Genesis’ sixth album.

      I don't have any issue with that, neither Peter Gabriel stayed with prog. But the majority of pop tunes they wrote lack of the most important thing for a good pop song: melody. I say this knowing nothing about The Beatles lore but even if Yoko Ono did break up The Beatles so what I mean if Lennon chose his gf/wife over continuing thats his choice to do so. Everyone is an adult who can make decisions on their own accord.

      That's wasn't the common story until most recently. The Beatles are a huge cultural phenomenon and someone wanted to be THE cause of their breakup. Yoko Ono was a convenient scapegoat for decades.

    >Melon sends Greta Van Fleet to Fantanomo Bay for not being very original or innovative
    >"Well the new Daughters release doesn't necessarily have to be particularly innovative or original, but uuh here take this 10/10."
    What did Fantanoloupe mean by this?

      I mean, I don't know much about Jethro Tull, but I often hear the name, and Aqualung is relatively well known imo.
      Hell, I'd say Ween is more underrated, aside from Ocean Man

    They've started playing christmas music at my work, and i've realized my least favorite type of christmas songs are the ones where some pop singer just says the word christmas over and over and that's supposed to be a chorus

    Paul McCartney did say it was John who broke The Beatles recently on The Howard Stern Show, and that it was closely related to his relationship with Yoko. Of course it's impossible to know what would've happened had Yoko not been there, and it's arguable that they would've split anyways, and I do agree that where people put the emphasis on the band breaking up can reveal sexist attitudes, but there's no denying that in the way the chips fell Yoko was a huge factor in The Beatles breakup.

      That's John's fault for letting that happen, he chose and made all those decisions. He was a grown ass man, if he chose to put her in everything that's his fault not some crazy Japanese woman.
