Just wanted to let you know that I appreciate your videos. You inspired me to start my own detail business by just using basic stuff and do basic work. Clay bar, vacuum, spray wax, hand wash and dry and detailing interiors. Superior Auto Detail page now published and I’ve got two satisfied customers behind me. I owe it to you for encouraging people like me to go ahead and start. Also, tips like this seatbelt cleaner are what will get me to the next level! Thank you sir!!
I like the way you think, same way as I do. Not many of us out there. I took my car to the detailer for interior for the first time and they been in business 30 years.. the person who did my car been working for them 13 years. Got my car back, worst job ever. Brought back for redo, even worse.. even the owner was embarrassed when i brought it back 3rd time and gave me my money back. Now, I'm using that money to buy my own detailing tools, watching all yours and others videos just to gain knowledge and I thank you for putting so much time and detail in your videos, i greatly appreciate it. If you want something done right, you gotta do it yourself, but you also have to have the right way of thinking with "detail" perfectionist, OCD, whatever people wanna call it, it's what sets us apart from everyone else. I got into custom fishing rod building because 90% of builders don't pay attention to details.. drives me nuts.. detailing is my next journey and thank you for helping me along the way.
Thank you. It’s informative videos like this that keep me from deleting RUclips. Wish you were the guy who derailed my cars because the care you have speaks volumes .
Great advice from a TRUE PROFESSIONAL! I searched for a video on cleaning seat belts and got some serious professional detailing advice! Thank you Scott!
hey mad wax!...seat belts are hard to clean but i hope these tricks work!..remember the 400.00 clip..lol..thanks for your support, i will keep trying to make content that helps, i learn as i go plus there have been great detailers along the way that have helped me!..have a great night and keep detailing my brother!
I once met an engineer working for Chrysler working on interior design. He borrowed my vehicle and it was a work truck. I apologized for my filthy seat belt. His response was that I was doing the right thing. His reason being that you don't clean seatbelts you replace them. Seatbelts material has UV protection in the material and cleaners will break down the UV protection and rendering the belt weaker with time.
Great video great knowledge I have tried to clean my seat belts in the past and was unsuccessful now I know how to do them thank you Scott I don't care if you Ramble On I get a lot of Knowledge from you you are wonderful and a blessing to anyone that is looking to up their detailing game I don't care what anyone says you're awesome thank you again
From one bald detailer to another bald detailer; thank you, thank you, THANK YOU. I'm grateful for the end rant because I needed that confidence boost. I do a damn-good job even though I'm still cutting my teeth. I pay attention to all the little details. Sometimes I think my work goes unnoticed, but you reminded me otherwise. Thank you, sir.
Not only they are difficult, but if your seat belt does not retract properly it's because it's dirty. A good cleaning is definitely a helpful device to keeping your seatbelt working properly. You've got it right guy, good job. But don't ever forget to tell people if it doesn't retract properly that's why. It's not the spring getting weak or broken. It's because of tons of dirt in it.
Thanks Scott -- and no, this is not boring. I bought a pre-owned 2019 Acura 5 months ago and have been watching detailing videos of yours so I can clean the areas that I have noticed since the purchase that need attention (leather seats, seat belts, etc). For a vehicle that really looked super-clean, I've noticed little things that make me wonder what the previous driver did lol!
i ran a car detailing biz for 15 years...contracted to Mercedes Benz...washed 100s of cream belts... i used to for years "pre cautiously" scrub n rub belts...with poor results.... then 1 day after a car sales rep copmplained....i un bolted the bottom of the belt...pulled all 7 feet of the belt out of the car...slammed the door on the belt to stop it retracting...sprayed both sides of belt with degreaser (un dilutted)...then blasted with 3000 psi water pressure (both sides) of belt...3 inches away with gun... belts look 100% like brand new....no scrubbing needed...let the gun do all the work...nothing cleans better
Again, working at Car Mart, I dealt with some severely dirty cars, and I had to resort to some really radical cleaning techniques. Just like with the carpets, I would remove the seat belt from the car completely, stretch it out on the cement and take a power washer to it. It would remove every bit of dirt and stains. I wouldn't go to that extreme with most cars, but if you come across something super dirty seat belts, it will work
I noticed some stains on my 3 year old car seat belts and you are right. I tried cleaning it with auto interior cleaning wet wipes and it did nothing, I was surprised and thats what brings me here. Hope your instructions help.
First of all you really helped me out with the suggesting of the Super Clean Degreaser. Wow that stuff is great and so far on light tan interior it didn't leave any spots. Other cleaners I had been using might be a little darker or lighter after cleaning. The Super Clean seems to get the stain out but not leave anything behind. Love it!!! Also love you can mix different strengths. Now I have a suggestion for you and anyone reading. I don't reccommend the scissors to trim the frayed edges on the seat belts or even some mats, especially kevlar shears like you showed. I was worried I might make a mistake and cut the belt but also don't wanna go insanely slow to be that careful. I tried really sharp flush cutters as well but also didn't like it. Instead whats way faster, way safer, and leaves very flush nice looking cuts on any of the frayed edges is a defuzzer/fabric shaver. Once I figured out to use this I was getting the stains out and knocking out the frayed edges with great quality but a lot less worries about damage having an open blade. Hope that might help someone out there! Thanks Scott!
Scott I have used SuperClean on my seatbelt and headliner. I was at show and the rep said to try it because it doesn't have bleach in it and it's safe on clothes, upholstery, carpet, etc. Good Cleaning!
How would you compare SuperClean to Purple Power? I have been going with Purple Power because it is half the price and it works fine for what I have been using it for, but if SuperClean is superior, I would use it for certain applications.
Appreciate the words of advice in the detailing business, happy birthday & wish you the best. Truly got more out of your video than just cleaning seat belts. Again Thank You very much ☆
It is obvious that Mr. Scott is from the NE, maybe NY...we talk alot us North Easterner's! I enjoyed the video because it was not boring! I always write a book when explaining something...so I get it. Sorry TEXAS isn't into BS chatting :)
Love the videos, love the video too and happy belated birthday man. Your 'speech' and passion behind Everything you do motivated me to start detailing. 👌🏽👌🏽
I'm wondering, rather than using scissors, can a cheap plastic single or double bladed razor work for getting rid of frayed pieces of the fabric? I use razors to clean the pilled up material from clothing and help it look new
Question.... what is the better choice for my next big purchase for detailing tools. Steamer or carpet cleaner? Side question.. when is best to use APC or A degreaser?
Hi I am in Australia can you give me the name of the detergent you are using to clean the seat belts with, I just bought a Mercedes-Benz with cream trim and the seat belts are filthy
I'll be starting my business soon in Fresno, CA. Just working on my car and gfs car for now and trying to improve my times. Anyways keep up the good work.
time is important, but Duray James no matter how much you practice be careful believing you have to be perfect before opening your business!..your going to do awesome and you will learn as you go, i want you to follow your dream, i wasn't perfect in the start and i even made a lot of mistakes along the way but I'm still here and working hard and customers call me all the time...im always here if you need help, god knows i wouldn't be here today without a lot of help along the way from others...your going to do great and i believe in you!...thanks so much for your support
would this help with cream coloured belts that are absolutely black? or do i need to buy new ones and scoth guard the heck out of them to keep him killing em.
Happy belated birthday! I'm going to save up and get one of those $400 clips :) Thanks again for sharing your wisdom and taking the time to follow up with viewers.
I had 3 years of not cleaning the seat belts and took them out completely and put them in water with degreaser and dish washing and they came out as new, for the edges I cut the excess and then with a lighter I burn what could not be cut.
Great video! I've seen some really dirty seat belts on trade ins or from used cars I broker from franchise dealers. I've used degreaser and scrubbed it with the brush cap from carpet cleaner cans. Then I rinse with warm water. I never thought about using a magic eraser - I like the idea! Or a toothbrush. Or an OXO brush! Great ideas. Thanks for sharing!
Good informative video man, I see you're dropping Jewels left and right which is always appreciated , as for me a paying customer a good rapport and customer service goes a long way that's the first few things I look for when I enter a business.
Love this guys videos, sounds like Sol Rosenberg; I give him credit for taking the time to produce these videos, I'm not always in agreement with his techniques, but, some of them make sense and save me money in the long run.
Could you do a video where you meet a customer for the first time? I would love to see what types of questions you would ask. How would you evaluate a car. I'm sorry if I asked f a question already answered or answered with a video.
Man you are the second version of Darren Priest from Auto Fetish Detail. I like both of you. Very detail of explaining things. Keep up the great work and happy birthday 🎂
radhwan...first let me say i have known Darren Priest for several years and I'm in contact with him almost on a weekly basis either by phone, text,or email...im honored to be placed in his company, Darren is a wonderful man and one of the best detailers on the planet!..yes i have a lot of experience working on cars and i also have tremendous passion for auto detailing but even i come across an issue from time to time that drives me nuts or i need a little help and Darren has always been there for me over the years!..we share the same passion we also love helping others and Darren to me will always be that one special guy that only comes around once in a lifetime!..thanks for your support and I'm grateful for your comment and thank you for the birthday wishes, i was working yesterday on my birthday doing 1 headlight restoration, 1 engine bay detail and 2 interior details!..some birthday for me..lol..but i was shocked that every customer knew it was my birthday and they all gave me unbelievable cash tips!..that doesn't happen every day and i was grateful!!!!!!!
Before I found you on RUclips, I had viewed some vids of people cleaning seat belts that don't retract. The drivers side belt on my car doesn't retract by itself. They soak the belt in a bucket of water mixed with cleaner to try to resolve this issue. I thought for sure that you were going to soak the belt in a bucket of water mixed with Super Clean. :) I was going to try that on my car seat belt. Do you have any thoughts on this method before I try it?
It's called a retractor. Careful using a degreaser. Most are corrosive and if not totally rinsed out, can cause chemical burns on skin! I've seen other vids using a soaking method in a bucket. A clean, dry belt will retract properly.
Carefully position the seat belt section with the cooties outside the car. Slather the seat belt with Oxi clean. Have a beer, hookup the pressure washer or a bucket of clean hot water and scrubber brush . Rinse. Steamer is a plus plus!!!!
Scott, you're awesome. I just discovered you a few days ago. I have learned more from you in the past few days than other channels in the last year. Keep the videos and tips coming.
I pull the seat belt all the way out and close the door on it leaving it hanging outside the car, then spray it with Purple Power degreaser, and then pressure wash it with a little short wand under low pressure. You have to be careful not to get too close because you can damage the belt and fray it. I've got it down to a science. You have to hold the belt so it doesn't slap against the car and wear gloves so you don't damage your hands with the pressurized water.
How much would someone charge to clean the seat belts as a mobile detailer ?? Since I don’t really include them in my services I’d charge extra due to the facts that it’s time consuming...
Ty for that q&a. I have a 1987 Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce. The Passanger Seatbelt has been so hard and stiff on my friends. Now I can't wait to try this tip.
I suggest you get some full strength purple Power soak it wait a minute or three or five wipe it off real good and you'll get out at least 90 or better percent of the stain
I'm surprised you don't run out of oxygen. Like the idea of scotch guard. Nice touch. Easier way to do it is soak the seatbelt in hot water with laundry detergent added in for 30 min. Wipe the belt down to remove as much water as possible. Let dry for 30 min then scotch guard and no stinky ap cleaner smell. Just from experience.
Scott I really like your video and agree with what you say. However, let's say a customer came to you and said "Hey I only have X (1/2 your basic package) amount of money, but I really like what you do and how you work. Can you just do the best you can for that price?" Would you deny that customer or do it and simply concentrate on the more important areas? Great video though. In the beginning stages of my business and that's one of the dilemmas I come across and would like to get your opinion. Thanks.
great question!..i will make a video just for you and what i say to my customer when I'm found in that issue...as a beginner you may have to take jobs for less plus its great experience..but i will answer that question in a more direct way in a future video...thanks for your support and keep up the good work in your detailing business!
The correct way to clean the car seat belt is: Pull out the seat belt, then close the door, spray the cleaner on the surface of the seat belt, let the detergent completely wet, wait for a few minutes, then attach the seat belt to the surface of the door, and rinse it with a fan-shaped high-pressure car washer If my method is correct and it works well, please pay attention to me
Hey Scott , love your work and Passion for doing it right !!! here is something you can look into though , the 'ScotchGard" . Please look into the History of the chemical that is bee used in these products . I would not want to sit in a car that has been treated with these chemicals . Its already enough crap that we breath in when the car is new . Ok brother check out the "Scotchgard' chemical ingredients !
The local detailers I've talked to said they don't clean the seatbelts b/c of the "fibers" they're made of and how it's impossible to get them clean. Sounds like it might be an excuse to get out of dealing with that detail. I notice things like that and when I buy a car that has nasty seatbelts, you can bet I'm cleaning them with anything/everything I can find b/c that's just nasty! I relate it to moving into a house that hasn't been cleaned! Why would I want to wallow around in other people's dirt.....eeeewwwwww!!!!
you can try an enzyme cleaner like Intercon..or something simple like Tide Coldwater clean laundry detergent mixed 5:1 in a 32oz bottle...enzyme cleaners work great for odors plus try the laundry detergent trick, both work well..hope that helps and thanks for the question..much love Sean:)
Good job. Thanks for the tips. Too bad you're not in LA. No detailer I've found here cleans seat belts when providing a full care detail. Makes no sense at all. And the dirt on my belts is not coming from me. It's the techs who get in my car when I get it serviced or tires rotated and balanced. So annoying

I have a 97 Land Cruiser and your video has helped me so much in my restoration process! Thank you!
Finally a vid on seat belts! Gonna try these tricks...keep em coming!

The seatbelt advice was great, but true knowledge was given at the end of the video. Thanks again my friend!
You had me at FULLY ACCESS 🤣🤣🤣👍
That's the real experance i've never heard anyone told me. Thank you Scott! Lean a another trick and more important, how to be more professional !

This guys sounds exactly like Alan Alda!
More like Howard Stern
What??? Howard stern is right! Sounds nothing like Hawkeye.

Man, that doctor rant was epic. Would like to see this channel just do more rants, podcast like topics. Do it.
i ran a car detailing biz for 15 years...contracted to Mercedes Benz...washed 100s of cream belts...
i used to for years "pre cautiously" scrub n rub belts...with poor results....
then 1 day after a car sales rep copmplained....i un bolted the bottom of the belt...pulled all 7 feet of the belt out of the car...slammed the door on the belt to stop it retracting...sprayed both sides of belt with degreaser (un dilutted)...then blasted with 3000 psi water pressure (both sides) of belt...3 inches away with gun...
belts look 100% like brand new....no scrubbing needed...let the gun do all the work...nothing cleans better
3000 psi sounds like a good way to damage the belt webbing. Pretty sure no manufacturers would recommend this technique.
shot degreaser all over the car
LMAO he dinged the paint with the seat belt!
I can't believe he published this video!

I am 3 minutes into the video and you are still telling me how difficult this is, haven't even started anything yet.
Great tips with the seat belts! And the speech at the end was inspiration. Thank you Scott.
Love it!!!
Good Cleaning!
cool thanks for the info!

Love your work ethic and can tell you have real integrity, great job!
Great advise along with your professional detailing tip.
Thank you, sir, you have the best detailing channel on RUclips
lots of great points made. appreciate your time !
thank you Ian!...nice to have you on the channel and thanks for the kind words
It is obvious that Mr. Scott is from the NE, maybe NY...we talk alot us North Easterner's! I enjoyed the video because it was not boring! I always write a book when explaining something...so I get it. Sorry TEXAS isn't into BS chatting :)
Excellent job and love that New Yoka accent!
Love the videos, love the video too and happy belated birthday man. Your 'speech' and passion behind Everything you do motivated me to start detailing. 👌🏽👌🏽
If you're afraid of the scissors, you can also use a sweater shaver to clean up those frayed edges.
i came for cold arid technical information. i stayed for the wisdom.
I'm wondering, rather than using scissors, can a cheap plastic single or double bladed razor work for getting rid of frayed pieces of the fabric? I use razors to clean the pilled up material from clothing and help it look new
Very good video. Really appreciate you.
Hey Scott ! - thanks for all YOU do. (a very useful "toothbrush" is the denture brush, usually found where the retail the fixodent, polygrip, etc.)
Question.... what is the better choice for my next big purchase for detailing tools. Steamer or carpet cleaner?
Side question.. when is best to use APC or A degreaser?
I watch you Scott, like People watch TV marathons.
Hi I am in Australia can you give me the name of the detergent you are using to clean the seat belts with, I just bought a Mercedes-Benz with cream trim and the seat belts are filthy
Happy Birthday man. Hope u have a great day. I appreciate the work u put in to make these videos. Great insight. 👍🏼
Duray James, thank you so much!..im grateful for your support

you have a voice made for radio.
Wow, now that's what I'm talking about!!!
Hey any recommendations for a good detailer in the NY NJ PA area ?
Which is better Super Clean 4:1 or Meguiars?
Bro your wife goin to be pissed 😡 that you took her hair clip😂.... awesome vedio very helpful
Scott your awesome for bringing good info like always.!!!
love the vids, thanks for taking the time to share your experience
would this help with cream coloured belts that are absolutely black? or do i need to buy new ones and scoth guard the heck out of them to keep him killing em.
It NEVER occurred to me to clean the seatbelts... but now it's all that I want to do! Guess what I'll be doing this weekend?!
Drinking beer...?
Happy belated birthday! I'm going to save up and get one of those $400 clips :) Thanks again for sharing your wisdom and taking the time to follow up with viewers.
thank you so much!...yeah those clips are hard to find, i think they are up to 500 now:)..thanks for your kind words
I had 3 years of not cleaning the seat belts and took them out completely and put them in water with degreaser and dish washing and they came out as new, for the edges I cut the excess and then with a lighter I burn what could not be cut.

Good informative video man, I see you're dropping Jewels left and right which is always appreciated , as for me a paying customer a good rapport and customer service goes a long way that's the first few things I look for when I enter a business.
How much does a full detail service cost approximately?

what do u recommend for cloth interior

What's your chemical of choice for Seatbelts
Great video! Love your passion. Used some of your tips to clean my daughter’s car seat!
Thanks. This was very helpful.
Did you dent the door when you pulled the belt? 😟😟
Do you have to rinse it in water?
Your a goof ball. You can he a little hard to listen to but you are passionate and "DETAILED"
Carefully position the seat belt section with the cooties outside the car. Slather the seat belt with Oxi clean. Have a beer, hookup the pressure washer or a bucket of clean hot water and scrubber brush . Rinse. Steamer is a plus plus!!!!
I found that La-awesome an carwash soap an hot water will clean a seatbelt to like new condition.
Honestly this video it should be just five minutes instead 16 minutes and fifteen seconds. Thank you.
Love your advices! thank you!
Thanks dude I'll do it myself and save my money
Keep up the good work, I really like your approach towards detailing.
Scott, you're awesome. I just discovered you a few days ago. I have learned more from you in the past few days than other channels in the last year. Keep the videos and tips coming.
thank you!..much love my friend and by the way i love your name:)
Wish you showed this on a very soiled stained seat belt to see how good it really works. This seat belt looks clean already.
Do you have any recommendation for the seat belt softener, since my seatbelt become stiff?
yes...clean it throughly then use fabric softener and steam to bring back its soft feel:)
Any detailers in SD, CA that do this type of cleaning?
Shine supply fabric rx works for me.
I found the clip on sale for $275 at an auto detail supply house. Bought a dozen of them before the sale ended.
Their loss My gain. 😂
So Passionate Great Ethics
The correct way to clean the car seat belt is:
Pull out the seat belt, then close the door, spray the cleaner on the surface of the seat belt, let the detergent completely wet, wait for a few minutes, then attach the seat belt to the surface of the door, and rinse it with a fan-shaped high-pressure car washer If my method is correct and it works well, please pay attention to me
Thanks for the tips bro
Hey Scott , love your work and Passion for doing it right !!! here is something you can look into though , the 'ScotchGard" . Please look into the History of the chemical that is bee used in these products . I would not want to sit in a car that has been treated with these chemicals . Its already enough crap that we breath in when the car is new . Ok brother check out the "Scotchgard' chemical ingredients !
What do interior details start at?
3 minutes. That is how long this video should have taken.
Well said at the end! Great videos :)
Yasss so true I just had one done and he missed areas I’m willing to pay for good service
We just had our truck "detailed" and they didn't touch the seatbelts ugh
Happy Birthday and great rant lol
The local detailers I've talked to said they don't clean the seatbelts b/c of the "fibers" they're made of and how it's impossible to get them clean. Sounds like it might be an excuse to get out of dealing with that detail. I notice things like that and when I buy a car that has nasty seatbelts, you can bet I'm cleaning them with anything/everything I can find b/c that's just nasty! I relate it to moving into a house that hasn't been cleaned! Why would I want to wallow around in other people's dirt.....eeeewwwwww!!!!
Best way to get odors off a seat belt?
you can try an enzyme cleaner like Intercon..or something simple like Tide Coldwater clean laundry detergent mixed 5:1 in a 32oz bottle...enzyme cleaners work great for odors plus try the laundry detergent trick, both work well..hope that helps and thanks for the question..much love Sean:)
Ha! Bought a used truck. Worst seat belt ever! I’ve cleaned the rest back to new but that seat belt, man is it in bad shape! Good video!
Good job. Thanks for the tips. Too bad you're not in LA. No detailer I've found here cleans seat belts when providing a full care detail. Makes no sense at all. And the dirt on my belts is not coming from me. It's the techs who get in my car when I get it serviced or tires rotated and balanced. So annoying
thank you Teresa...i would love to be in L.A....so jealous of you:)
