    By the way Japanese exports and current account balance hit all-time records in 2024. Also they are now the largest creditor in the world not debtor as many people think. (world owns to Japan way more what Japan liabilities) For exporting countries a devalued currency is blessing because make the economy more competitive. That's why China, South Korea and Vietnam fight teeth and nail to keep their currencies depreciated. Also lets not forget the Yen overvaluation forced to Japan by USA back 1985 caused massive problems to Japanese economy.

    I'd recommend the bus as it is less stressful but they can get crowded so definitely reserve seats as far in advance as you can. But if you drive to Shirakawago, ask yourself how confident and prepared are you to drive in Japan. I drove to there with little Japan road knowledge which i regret. Also watch out for time and sunset as you are driving in mountain valleys. It gets darker sooner.

    I am not worried for the Japanese car market, I think they are doing the wiser thing in investing in hybrid tech instead of the electric car market. They aren't ignoring it, Nissan was the first major manufacturer to introduce a mass market electric car, but its not urgent that we move to electric cars. We aren't running out of oil/gasoline in our lifetime or even our children's lifetime but hybrid tech is a way of ensuring that we don't. Currently the electric car infrastructure and charging tech isn't where it needs to be to replace ICE vehicles, but the Japanese auto industry is positioned well enough to make the change whenever the market demands it.

    • @crunchyfrog555
      @crunchyfrog555 16 часов назад +5

      I defintiely agree. Plus the electric car market is a pretty dead duck. The simple fact is that batteries are VERY energy efficient and there's very little room for improvement there. You can't really get round the fact that they're heavy, degrade within a few years and are inhibitively expensive to replace those batteries.
      Hybrid while far from perfect, is currently the best approach, unless something totally new comes along.

For some reason all the cleaning supplies were locked away and I had to phone the company for help. In very broken Japanese I tried to explain what had happened. They thought I wanted assistance with some currency exchange. After getting to the basics of, 'child vomit clean' they sent around their handyman to unlock the cupboard for us. He simply said 'wow'. About Japan and EV cars: Explain me this: Why can I not get a Nissan Leaf with CCS fast charging in Europe? It's been the standard since forever, and Chademo is absolutely not going to become popular here. There are no practically workable adapters and it's not like you travel between Chademo and CCS areas on a daily basis so there's no reason to try and force a Japanese standard to become the world standard. Please Please PLEASE give me a CCS charging Leaf and I'll buy one in a heartbeat. Why WHY WHY has it not happened already?

      There different levels of car quality in China ranging from cheap as chips to those that competivtly similar in price to Western and Japanese prices. Those that criticise China will always point at the budget end of the Ev car market where you get whst you pay for. They never talk about brands such as BYD, it's always the obscure bargain bucket end of the market, which only aimed at the domestic market.

    What Japan found is a bed of metallic nodules. They are basically metallic rocks just sitting on the sea bed. They grow a few millimeters in a million years. Because they grow so slowly and they are relevant to sea life, they probably shouldn't be gathered at scale. They also generate oxygen through electrolysis which could be of significance to the entire global ecosystem. More research is needed.

    China decided to develop a car industry but realized they couldn't compete with traditional car manufacturers if they went down the combustion engine route. So they decided tp take advantage of the fact that Japanese and Western car brands weren't really pushing development in eVehicles.
    So they went down the EV market starting with two wheel vehicles and then cars along with larger vehicles. At the same time they embraced all the new technologies possible into the EV industry. Western manufacturers didn't think China could beome a competitive rival and so ignored them. Now those same brands are panicking...
