1) Marriage Story 2) Knives Out 3) Us 4) Joker 5) Once Upon a Time in Hollywood 6) Toy Story 4 7) Doctor Sleep 8) El Camino 9) The Irishman 10) Rocketman
I really strongly disagree with your assessment that this wasn't a good year in movies. I think it was one of the best years in the recent memory. probably even the best year of the decade. I think the reason you think this year wasn't good for movies is that you just haven't watched the good movies of this year. tbh none, and I mean NONE of the movies you listed would be on my top 10 list(and I liked at least half the movies you mentioned. but they were not in the ten or even 15 best movies of the year in my opinion. some of them I think are flat out bad). Watch Parasite, uncut gems, Irish man, lighthouse, portrait of a lady on fire, knives out, Jojo rabbit, marriage story, doctor sleep,1917, ford vs ferrari and many many other great movies of this year. Specially "Parasite" which I think might be my favorite movie of the decade. this was an astonishing year in cinema. But I will agree with you on this one: the lion king was without a doubt the worst movie of the year!
@@floraposteschild4184 yeah can't argue with that. most of the big widely distributed movies this year sucked. the really good ones were screened limited and it was not easy to find them.
one above all I wanted to watch Jojo Rabbit so bad but there was so little advertising for it I didn't find out it existed until after it was done playing at the cinema. A lot of movie theaters in my area didn't even play it because of the controversy around the movie
@@ezrenficker4502 The way they released it was really weird too. Limited release then opened up for like a weekend. I drove my kids 50 minutes to see it at the only theater it was playing in freaking Houston, then the next week it was at the one five minutes from my house. Worth it, though. Loved it.
If you think this wasn't a good movie year, you should watch more non-Hollywood/independent movies and more foreign movies. I have a pass that I pay €17.50 for per month and with that pass, I get to watch an unlimited amount of (mostly independent/foreign) films in 40 or 50 arthouse movie theatres in my country. I use that pass to watch about six movies per month and I've seen sooooo many amazing movies this year! 2019 was an amazing movie year.
Ngl you just made me so happy by mentioning Rocketman on your list. Although I put it at my #1 spot, I'm just happy to see someone else I follow on RUclips like it enough to put it in their top 10 :D!!!
1.Tolkien 2. Avengers: Endgame 3. Stan & Ollie 4. Green Book 5. Toy Story 4 Films I haven’t seen but would probably be there: The Irishman Knives Out Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
A lot of your list is movies I wanted to watch but never got around to. My ranking of this years movies that I watched is: 1. Shazam 2. Frozen 2 3. Captain Marvel 4. Jumanji the Next Level 5. Maleficent Mistress of Evil 6. Aladdin 7. How to Train Your Dragon the Hidden World 8. Toy Story 4 9. Joker 10. Spider man Far From Home 11. Avengers Endgame 12. Star Wars the Rise of Skywalker 13. Wonder Park
Raven Mcbain ... captain marvel is your favorite... ok then... wait what is Aladdin doing up there in 2nd... u know it’s a lesser remake of an actually amazing movie... Well maybe u saw something in them that I didn’t 🤷🏾♂️ How was wonder park I never got the chance to watch it
BlackBoy 27 wonder Park was actually a movie that I had completely forgotten I saw until I made this list, I have to admit that I didn’t find anything particularly memorable about it.
BlackBoy 27 Captain Marvel had its problems but overall I just enjoyed spending time with these characters and watching this story. I really enjoyed Aladdin, is it as good as the animated movie, not even close but I really enjoyed watching it, it had one of the best new songs I’ve ever heard imo, the cast was good and overall I found it had less problems (and I enjoyed it more) then a lot of the other movies I watched in 2019.
Raven Mcbain it’s good to see that you you enjoyed it. Personally I didn’t like that even though the movie was called Aladdin, they focused a lot more on jasmine then Aladdin. If the movie was called jasmine it would have been a better film experience. Other then that it was enjoyable, I did enjoy captain marvel more then Aladdin but other movies this year, for me, where ten times better. From joker to avengers to Spider-Man, once upon a time in Hollywood and how to train your dragon are a few movies that I think are better then captain marvel and Aladdin. But of course we all have different tastes in movies 🎥👍🏾
I'm actually not surprised about lego movie 2 taking your top spot. You're a parent, and this movie was beautiful in it's depiction of two kids learning to get along and play together. It was a beautiful look at the sibling relationship. Additionally if the first one was about the kid and his dad this one is about the kids and their mom. I think it was a good choice to leave the dad off screen. This movie gave me warm fuzzies about playing with my brother when I was a little kid and not much media manages to touch that particular point in my childhood, toy story never did. Made me remember playing alone, never made me think about the time I spent playing with my brother. I'm not surprised at all that you loved it. Great list ^_^
Oh my god, you left it on a cliffhanger. You bar steward!! ;-) For me, in no order: Toy Story 4 - It did what shouldn't have been possible. Like you, I hope this is the coda. Joker - Stunning performance that left me feeling sorry for him, even though I hate what he did. Rise Of Skywalker - It gave a satisfying ending to a long saga, despite it problems. Avengers Endgame - How to bring closure to a long running franchise while not ending it. The Party Is Just Beginning - A stunning writing/directing debut from Karen Gillan who is also in every scene. Honourable Mentions: The Aeronauts - As someone who deals with vertigo and a fear of heights, this was the most genuinely scary film in a long while, even though I know it's not real or even a horror. Knives Out - I suspect this would have been on there too but I won't be watching it until Tuesday, which is still this year so I'll stick it here. The Okay: Ad Astra - It was okay but also ridiculous in parts. Once Upon A Time In Hollywood - Decent, well acted but left me feeling lacking for a Tarantino movie. The Bad: Dark Phoenix: - Nuff said.
10. Overcomer 9. Spider-Man: Far from Home 8. Knives Out 7. Stan and Ollie 6. Toy Story 4 5. Shazam! 4. Peanut Butter Falcon 3. John Wick: Chapter 3 Parabellum 2. Avengers: Endgame 1. Ford v Ferrari A couple of these are really small movies
My top 3: 1) Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse* 2) Le Mans '66 (Ford v Ferrari) 3) Knives Out *a December 2018 release, but I saw it in January, so I count it under 2019
Top 5 in no particular order Joker - A gripping, unique take on a long-running character with what I think has a lot to say around how an uncaring society can contribute to the formation of some of its worst people. I hope its success can give us more out-of-the box comic book movies in future. Shazam - like the movie above, it felt like a breath of fresh air though for completely different reasons. Its more limiyed budget may have contributed but i appreciate its willingness to put so much focus on the character relationships over the action. The child actors may also be some of the best I've seen in recent times. Detective Pikachu - Already been a Pokémon fan since its heyday so was overjoyed that its adaption to live action and filtering through the Hollywood lens really treated the franchise with respect. As a fan, I felt like the comedic moments laughed with us rather than at us. Like you, I do not think it needs a direct sequel but hopefully something else in its vain. Toy Story 4 - I wasn't as pessimistic about this as sone others but was really happy to see that it felt like a natural extension of what came before. A very unique antagonist for the franchise and yet another heart wrenching ending. Avengers: Endgame - Hard to say what others already haven't but never let it be said that I never enjoy spectacle and fan service, especially when its EARNED! Honourable mention: The Lion King - didn't make me angry but I feel like I have no reason to ever see it again! By contrast, I also saw the new Aladdin and came away overall positive! Disappointment: Star Wars: The Rise of Skyealker - unlike yourself, I had no pessimism going into this. I really liked the previous movie and had trust the JJ would give me a satisfying enough follow-up. But he didn't actually make a sequel to Episode VIII but a back-pedalling regression full of pretty but empty spectacle. The more I think about it, the less I think of it. I want to get Knives Out before it leaves cinemas. I'd also like to see Alita: Battle Angel given how much the people who like it seem to rave about it. Suppose I should get to Dark Phoenix too if nothing else but to be able to make a Marvel/DC list for the year!
My list, this is the first year I really tried to watch a lot of new movies. I really loved this year just for these five to be honest. I gotta see more still. 1. Parasite 2. Jojo Rabbit 3. Portrait of a Lady on Fire 4. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood 5. Dolemite Is My Name
Nice list, clearly from a more family-friendly persecuted....except for Us that is. ;) Here would be my list (though I still need to see 1917, Pain and Glory, and a few others: 10. Dragged Across Concrete 9. Rocketman 8. High Flying Bird 7. Ford V Ferrari 6. Us 5. Booksmart 4. Joker 3. Parasite 2. Uncut Gems 1. Marriage Story
Very nice list. Surprisingly, I've seen all of them except for Frozen II (no time), Lion King (couldn't pay me), and Us. This may be an odd compliment, but Jordan Peele's movies are too intense for me to deal with. I got nightmares from the trailer alone for Get Out. Glad you finally got to Shazam and liked it - it really is a fun little film. I've got some leftovers from this year I haven't managed to see yet as well, hoping to get to some of them soon. I'm rubbish at ranking and can't remember everything I saw this year in any case, so no list for me, but I'd definitely agree that everything on yours is worth seeing. I do have a dishonorable mention - Joker. It wasn't bad per se, but holy cow did I hate it. Everything in it was dark and squalid and I couldn't wait for it to be over.
Another List (which I neither expect nor want anyone to feel compelled to agree with!) **Best Movie** 5 Spider-Man - Into The Spiderverse (cause I saw it just after New Year) 4 Spider-Man - Far From Home (It was fun) 3 Godzilla King Of The Monsters (unfairly treated by reviewers - this IS what Daikaiju-Eiga are all about) 2 Alita - Battle Angel (Just gets ahead of The Big G because it so totally grabbed me - oh, and I knew the source material. Rosa Salazar is awesome) 1 Avengers - Endgame (I still prefer Infinity War, but this was the finale we needed. Cap's reward had me in tears, even though I anticipated it...) **Honourable Mention** Shazam - Hey, that worked. Harked back a bit to the slightly jokey superhero movies pre-MCU, such as the Tim Story FF movies. **Could'Ve Been Better** Captain Marvel - Brie Larson just didn't seem to SELL the character enough for me. A decent film, and certainly not my least favourite of the MCU. The Rise Of Skywalker - Just saw this last night, aaaaand... well, it didn't suck. Actually could be the best of the "Sequel Trilogy", and very definitely a Star wars movie, which The Last Jedi wasn't really. A better Episode 8 (and NOT for the "reasons" usually assumed) would've helped this movie... but y'know how things worked out.
Really enjoyed your list. I agree that this year has been a bit hit and miss when it comes to cinema. However, I think my top 10 would be (as it stands at this point in time): 10. 'Hustlers 9. 'Shazam!' 8. 'Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood' 7. 'Last Christmas' (sorry, it's my guilty pleasure film for the year) 6. 'Ride Like a Girl' (Australian film) 5. 'Jumanji: The Next Level' 4. 'Rocketman' 3. 'Late Night' 2. 'Knives Out' 1. 'Fighting With My Family'
I haven't seen many movies this year, but these are the 5 which left the biggest impression. JOKER. Simply astonishing. Perfect acting from Joaquin Phoenix, perfect directing, perfect script. Replaces the Dark Knight as my new favourite comic book movie. KNIVES OUT Rian Johnson never ceases to amaze me, just when I think he's directed his masterpiece he comes out and directs a movie I never even thought I'd like. A gripping movie from start to finish. I LOST MY BODY A must watch if you don't mind getting emotional over a cartoon. I was in bits by the end, and the idea of telling the story through someone's severed hand is a novel idea. SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME Biggest surprise of the year for me, considering I didn't like Homecoming much at all. Both Peter Parker and Mary Jane are much better realised this time around, and the villain/fight scenes... wow. I don't think this depiction of Mysterio will ever be topped. I AM MOTHER The most 'interesting' film I've seen this year for sure, I'm a sucker for these kind of small scale sci-fi movies and the horror elements introduced through the titular character are the icing on the cake.
I may be one of the only people not suprised by the top pick - it's a solid choice. Great list! I'd throw in Joker, El Camino, and Ad Astra personally.
Honestly, I almost cried in boredom and frustration during the first lego movie, and would never see the second one. But I think it's great that I still really enjoy this channel's content as I feel as a community RUclips has become entirely too much in the vein of 'well I don't agree with you so I'm going to unsubscribe and pour hate into the comments'. Have a great New Year
1. Avengers Endgame 2. Frozen 2 3. Knives Out 4. Joker 5. Us 6. Hustlers 7. Marriage Story 8. Spiderman Far From Home 9. Alita 10. Aladdin PS. Some people might be lowkey pissed about some films being way too low but i base my rankings on the rewatch-ability factor so while i loved marriage story, i don’t think i’ll be rewatching that film as much as the others
Your ability to speak uninterrupted is pretty impressive, as are your views. I love Lego and have hundreds of sets, but didn't connect to the second movie. I will go back and give it another chance before the week's up. I felt that Far From Home was fun, much better than Endgame. Indeed, it and Shazam were my favorite superhero movies this year. And oooh, how I liked Days of Future Past. No lazy tugging of emotional strings or terrible writing or ridiculous time travel plot holes, one of the best. What happened to Knives Out? That was a hilarious trip.
My top films from this year//1. Booksmart 2. Us 3. Knives Out 4. Happy Death Day 2U 5. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood I actually completely forgot "Detective Pikachu" existed. My, my, there's been a lot of films coming out this year. Oh, yeah. Every new clip/trailer I saw of "The Lion King" was painful. I refused to be dragged to see that one.😤
Lol, I saw Charlie's angels on your list and was about to ask if it actually a good movie then I saw the rest of your list So now I am guessing it is a sarcastic list?
@@duncandownham4726 What are you talking about? Cats is a masterpiece of cinema. I hate it when people ramble about how good Citizen Kane or The Godfather is, without even MENTIONING Cats. Ugh
The rest of the movies I saw this year I liked enough that I dont want to rank them, I liked them all about equally. But my top pick and bottom pick: Bottom: Cats. Because of course I saw cats. I was legally obligated to with how much I watched the musical as a kid. Its awful and surreal and disturbing in ways the filmmakers definitely didnt intend. I had a fun time watching it but it is definitely the worst movie I watched this year Top: Knives Out. Lots of fun, I love comedy murder mystery type things (with Clue being one of my all-time favorite movies) so I had a lot of fun with this one.
My favourite film of the year was Rocketman (and I still think it is phenomenal!) but I recently saw Knives Out and that has narrowly dethroned it. What an amazing movie and, as a die-hard whodunit fan, it gets my stamp of approval. If you have chance to go and see it, please do!
I ~loved~ LEGO Movie The Second Part! I don't see many first-run movies either. I really did love Rocketman. My mom and I are big Elton John fans, and I still have yet to play it for her. Anyway Nathaniel, thank you for making these videos, I really enjoy and appreciate your point of view on pretty much everything, even if I don't completely agree every time. Loving the CoG bag I got from your Teespring shop. Really good quality, in case anyone needs a testimonial. =) Anyway, have a great New Year, and see you at the LEGO Movie The Second Part video!
Oh I am totally on board with The Lego Movie 2. It was such a good film. Maybe not quite as good as the first, but that's mostly due to the first film being a total novelty. I'd never seen anything like that before. By the time I saw TLM2 I'd seen The Lego Batman movie as well, it wasn't as novel anymore. But TLM2 is perhaps far better in terms of what it's trying to say, and what it does say. I'm eager to hear your further thoughts on it next week.
My favourite movie this year is one that not a lot of people are talking about; klaus. It’s a Netflix original animation and it is amazing. 2D animation that is wonderful, a story that is new for a Christmas film. Just love it. If you haven’t seen it go check it out.
I’m pretty upset about the lack of Doctor Sleep in this comments section. Mike Flannigan gave us an amazing film and like, no one went to see it. It was the sequel to The Shining which is considered one of the best-made films of all time. Pretty disappointing how few saw it.
So, since I'm not a movie buff, uh... Top ten games of the year, no particular order. Devil May Cry 5 Fire Emblem Three Houses Code Vein Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. Resident Evil 2 Remake. Wargroove. Disco Elysium. (
Weird list. I forgot Lego Movie 2 came out this year (but I also loved it). I watch a hella lot of movies, my list (not ranked) is something like.... -Avengers: Engame -Jojo Rabbit -Marriage Story -Parasite -Shazam! -Uncut Gems -Us
Spiderman far from home had me look at my watch for about a hour and a half not a great sign. Top 10 movies i saw this year although i only saw 11 films this year xD 1. Avengers Endgame 2. Joker 3. Toy Story 4 4. Terminator Dark Fate (i really enjoyed this film even though it didn't make to much money i liked it) 5. The Aeronaughts 6. Rise of Skywalker 7. Rambo 8. Charlie's Angels 9. Captain Marvel 10. Spiderman far from home
@@CouncilofGeeks JoJo Rabbit is the most original movie I've seen in forever. If it doesn't walk away with the original screenplay Oscar it certainly deserves to. But I didn't see Us, either. Highly recommend JoJo!
I take it you didn't see Ford vs Ferrari then. Certainly an extremely good movie even for somebody who doesn't give a toss about racing. Good in every single aspect. Not a movie to miss.
Shazam has a good message about family. I never saw a Train your Dragon movie. Detective Pikachu is cute, I loved how the Bulbasaurs were animated. Captain Marvel is a decent movie, call me corny but I love the fight with the Great Intelligence. Didn't see Alita, I think I might. Loved Endgame. I might see Rocketman Plan on seeing Frozen II I like Far from Home, better than Green Lantern I will skip Lion King 2019. Toy Story 4 is ok, I will give it a rewatch. I will see Us. I will watch Lego Movie 2 and look forward to your video on it.
I ended up going to the Cinema 7 times this year, and here was how my rankings played out: 7. Captain Marvel 6. Shazam! 5. Terminator: Dark Fate 4. Spider-man: Far From Home 3. Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker 2. Knives Out 1. Avengers: Endgame
I never agreed with the thematic element of The Lego Movie Part 2. Maybe I'm not taking everything in properly (cos there is a lot going on in terms of messages), but having two characters representing boys and girls becomes a bit of an issue when the female representative turns out to be wholly good, and the male representative turns out to be wholly bad. I must be missing the more complicated stuff as I've only seen it the once, but obviously I don't appreciate that conclusion.
i watched it when it first came out and I haven't watched it since so I might not remember exactly all the theming. But i never got the vibe that it was feminine is wholly good and masculine is wholly bad. I understood it as "being mature doesn't mean you have to get rid of everything fun, and being fun and colorful doesn't mean you're not mature". The boy didn't want his sister playing with the legos because she "messes" it up from his point of view, but that's because he's an older kid. It's exactly how my sister was with me (I'm enby masc leaning) and how I was with my sister. But missing the possible masc vs fem stuff might be because for my sisters and I, our gender presentations have been very fluid. i tried to rewatch the movie to make sure i wasn't mixing up the theme but it wasn't loading so i found this review i remember mostly agreeing with when i had first watch the movie. ruclips.net/video/ua2enFk-16Y/видео.html
I didn't think the sister was wholly good. She had good intentions, she just wanted to play with her brother, but she wasn't being at all sensitive to the fact that he clearly just wanted to play alone sometimes. She took his stuff, which is not okay. She was a bit of a brat at times, but so was he. It was an intricate look at how two children interact and can see a situation differently because of different maturity levels. In the end both kids thought they were in the right. The brother came around and decided he needed to let her play with him not because she wasn't being a brat but because he saw how much she loves him, and he is the older child. He's more mature, he took the high ground. If the message had been that the boy was wrong the mom would have let the girl continue to have lego and the boy has to put his away. Nope, both children were acting out toward each other over these toys so she took the toys away from both. For a very short time, because that's how you punish kids. You don't take away take away their stuff cause you're mad, you take it to teach them a lesson. In this case the lesson was "play nicely or not at all." They started playing nicely, she didn't take the legos again. It wasn't about boy vs girl it was about two siblings.
I am disappointed that you didn't put Cats at #1. But seriously, I think Dragon 3 was better than 2. The 2nd one just seemed kinda muddled. Also, Parasite was really good.
_My obligatory list of every movie I've seen that no one asked for-_ I recommend reading it backwards from the way up. 1. *Avengers: Endgame-* 9/10 Ik I'm normie trash for putting this one at #1 but that's where it is 2. *Rise of Skywalker-* 9/10 I know it's a mess but I freaking loved it anyways. 3. *Jojo Rabbit-* 9/10 Taika Waititi is a legend. 4. *Knives Out-* 8.5/10 Rian Johnson is also a legend, so I hear 5. *Spider-Man: Far From Home-* 8.5/10 Has issues, but the great stuff is what I remember it for 6. *Shazam!-* 8/10 Probably my favorite DCEU movie 7. *The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part-* 8/10 Of course it's not as good as the original, but it's still a worthy sequel. 8. *Captain Marvel-* 8/10 Not much I have to say about this one, it's just great. 9. *Glass-* 7.5/10 Has some dumb things here and there, but it's still a very solid episode in the trilogy. 10. *Toy Story 4-* 7.5/10 Carried by its animation & comedy mostly *Everything else-* 11. *Godzilla: KOTM-* 7.5/10 Man, this was a big year for guilty pleasures in my experience. 12. *Steven Universe: The Movie-* 7.5/10 Feels weird giving this one a ranking & number rating honestly. 13. *Missing Link-* 7/10 Watched this one with my mom and my brother, and we were like one of three groups of people in the theater???? It deserved a lot more. 14. *Detective Pikachu-* 6.5/10 I never considered myself a big fan of pokemon, but this was a pleasant experience. Some amazing visuals & score, although the plot was ridiculously formulaic. 15. *How to Train Your Dragon 3-* 6/10 Not at all bad, its animation & score is great, but other than a few moments here and there, that's about it.
I agree about Glass. A lot of people thought it was boring, but I liked that it deconstructed the superhero origin story rather than just doing a big showdown between the 3 supers. Missing Link was underseen.
Just wanna reiterate, knowing your taste, you'll LOOOOVE Parasite. Definitely check it out, and don't look up anything about it (except that it's in Korean).
i like the analysis of the movies, but you probably saw like 20 movies this year haha you should probably at least see 60 plus (including netflix ones)
Once upon a time in Hollywood is one of the best film of the decade... full stop. (It has the most bizarre ending and it makes it amazing g for your first watch)
1 - Avengers: Endgame . 2 - Joker . 3 - Happy Death Day 2U . 4 - Glass . 5 - Cats . 6 - Us . 7 - Lego Movie 2: The Second Part . 8 - Shazam . 9 - Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker . 10 - 1917 . Please note. These are my favorites, not the best.
You missed some good movies. Little Women 2019 is really good. Bombshell is great. Irishman is on Netflix.1917 is a Great War movie. Dark Waters is Mark Ruffalo's best film. Judy is a great biopic.
Nope. Phoenix was amazing but I didn't much care for the film. Though I don't feel so bad that I needed to slag it off either. It's just "a film I saw this year," alongside Rise of Skywalker and Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood.
I wanted to be all in with the MCU....and then Marvel fucked it all up for me. For me, personally. If it didn't for you, that's great. The only Marvel movies I've liked since The Avengers were Black Panther and Captain Marvel. I haven't seen Us or Toy Story 4. I did enjoy Detective Pikachu and I thought The Lego Movie 2 was really good. I think, at this point, Cats is catching up to The Lion King as the worst movie of the year.
I try to see 24-25 movies a year. This year I only managed to see 21. BY MY TASTES - this was a mediocre year for movies. There was nothing that I though was great - like Hidden Figure or Anniliation or Into the Spiderverse. There were a lot of things that I had forgotten I'd even seen during the last year. So, my best three are: Ready or Not, Knives Out, and Rocketman. The two movies I was disappointed with and hated the most: Velvet Buzzsaw, and Ad Astra.
Far from home is one of the best mcu films!! It has an amazing villain (which is rare for mcu) had amazing action sequences and cgi. Wtf “disappointed”!! What where you expecting!!! I don’t understand!?
Capt Marvel? I liked it but it is not better than Shazam or Dragon 3. There are problems with the movie. Carol Oscar over powered in the movie. They coil have done better with Nick Fury's eye. That was a disappointment especially when you compare to how the Skesis scientist lost his eye in the Dark Crystal prequel.
I didn't totally like Toy Story 4. The movie felt unnecessary. I did not like that in order to find out what happened to Bo Peep we had to say goodbye to Woody. We already said goodbye at the end of Toy Story 3. We did not need to say good bye again. What is 5 going to be? A goodbye to Buzz?
1) Marriage Story

5) Once Upon a Time in Hollywood

Knives Out was the best movie I watched this year by far.
Your number 1 makes me very happy :) Knives out is also great.
I loved Rocketman. I saw Elton John in concert afterwards in Boston. It was great.
1. Joker
2. Irishman
3. Once upon a time in Hollywood
4. Lighthouse
5. Ford vs Ferrari
6. Knives out
My list (I also don't watch nearly enough a year)-
1. Ad Astra
2. Avengers: Endgame
3. Knives Out
4. Ready or Not
5. Joker
As Adstra was great and underappreciated.
Ad Astra is a really great film. One of my favorite films of 2019.
I really strongly disagree with your assessment that this wasn't a good year in movies. I think it was one of the best years in the recent memory. probably even the best year of the decade.

3. Stan & Ollie
4. Green Book
5. Toy Story 4
Films I haven’t seen but would probably be there:
The Irishman
Knives Out
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
I liked your number 1 pick as well. Its message was one I really needed to hear exactly when it came out.
A lot of your list is movies I wanted to watch but never got around to.
My ranking of this years movies that I watched is:
1. Shazam
2. Frozen 2
3. Captain Marvel
4. Jumanji the Next Level
5. Maleficent Mistress of Evil
6. Aladdin
7. How to Train Your Dragon the Hidden World
8. Toy Story 4
9. Joker
10. Spider man Far From Home
11. Avengers Endgame
12. Star Wars the Rise of Skywalker
13. Wonder Park
Raven Mcbain ... captain marvel is your favorite... ok then... wait what is Aladdin doing up there in 2nd... u know it’s a lesser remake of an actually amazing movie...
Well maybe u saw something in them that I didn’t 🤷🏾♂️
How was wonder park I never got the chance to watch it
BlackBoy 27 wonder Park was actually a movie that I had completely forgotten I saw until I made this list, I have to admit that I didn’t find anything particularly memorable about it.
You bar steward!! ;-) For me, in no order:
Toy Story 4 - It did what shouldn't have been possible.
Honourable Mentions:
The Aeronauts - As someone who deals with vertigo and a fear of heights, this was the most genuinely scary film in a long while, even though I know it's not real or even a horror.
Knives Out - I suspect this would have been on there too but I won't be watching it until Tuesday, which is still this year so I'll stick it here.
The Okay:
Ad Astra - It was okay but also ridiculous in parts.
Once Upon A Time In Hollywood - Decent, well acted but left me feeling lacking for a Tarantino movie.
The Bad:
Dark Phoenix: - Nuff said.
10. Overcomer
9. Spider-Man: Far from Home
8. Knives Out
7. Stan and Ollie
6. Toy Story 4
5. Shazam!
4. Peanut Butter Falcon
3. John Wick: Chapter 3 Parabellum
2. Avengers: Endgame
1. Ford v Ferrari
A couple of these are really small movies
My top 5:
LEGO movie 2
Frozen 2
Shazam
Joker
Rise of skywalker
Not a great year for movies? You weren't looking hard enough. This was one of the best movie years of the decade (second to 2017)
My top 3:
1) Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse*
2) Le Mans '66 (Ford v Ferrari)
3) Knives Out
*a December 2018 release, but I saw it in January, so I count it under 2019
yessss LEGO movie 2 is extremely underrated
My faves: Toy Story 4, Frozen II, Knives Out, and Booksmart.
HELL YEAH lego movie 2 got slept on, it was absolutely great
Top 5 in no particular order
Joker - A gripping, unique take on a long-running character with what I think has a lot to say around how an uncaring society can contribute to the formation of some of its worst people.
1. Parasite
2. Jojo Rabbit
3. Portrait of a Lady on Fire
4. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
5. Dolemite Is My Name
A Name With a Person this is a fantastic list. Looooved Parasite.
Finally. A great list in this comment section.
I'm ashamed to say I still havent watched dolomite yet
I love you. Also, I love that you include Us, but I want to hear how you deal with the mom in Leogo movie,
Nice list, clearly from a more family-friendly persecuted....except for Us that is. ;) Here would be my list (though I still need to see 1917, Pain and Glory, and a few others:
10. Dragged Across Concrete
9. Rocketman
8. High Flying Bird
7. Ford V Ferrari
6. Us
5. Booksmart
4. Joker
3. Parasite
2. Uncut Gems
I was trying to block "Lion King" out of my memory. Thanks for reminding me.
Another List (which I neither expect nor want anyone to feel compelled to agree with!)
**Best Movie**
5 Spider-Man - Into The Spiderverse (cause I saw it just after New Year)
4 Spider-Man - Far From Home (It was fun)
3 Godzilla King Of The Monsters (unfairly treated by reviewers - this IS what Daikaiju-Eiga are all about)
2 Alita - Battle Angel (Just gets ahead of The Big G because it so totally grabbed me - oh, and I knew the source material. Rosa Salazar is awesome)
1 Avengers - Endgame (I still prefer Infinity War, but this was the finale we needed. Cap's reward had me in tears, even though I anticipated it...)
**Honourable Mention**
Shazam - Hey, that worked. Harked back a bit to the slightly jokey superhero movies pre-MCU, such as the Tim Story FF movies.
**Could'Ve Been Better**
Captain Marvel - Brie Larson just didn't seem to SELL the character enough for me.
However, I think my top 10 would be (as it stands at this point in time):
10. 'Hustlers
9. 'Shazam!'
8. 'Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood'
7. 'Last Christmas' (sorry, it's my guilty pleasure film for the year)
6. 'Ride Like a Girl' (Australian film)
5. 'Jumanji: The Next Level'
4. 'Rocketman'
3. 'Late Night'
2. 'Knives Out'
KNIVES OUT
Rian Johnson never ceases to amaze me, just when I think he's directed his masterpiece he comes out and directs a movie I never even thought I'd like. A gripping movie from start to finish.
I LOST MY BODY
A must watch if you don't mind getting emotional over a cartoon. I was in bits by the end, and the idea of telling the story through someone's severed hand is a novel idea.
SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME
Biggest surprise of the year for me, considering I didn't like Homecoming much at all. Both Peter Parker and Mary Jane are much better realised this time around, and the villain/fight scenes... wow. I don't think this depiction of Mysterio will ever be topped.
I AM MOTHER
The most 'interesting' film I've seen this year for sure, I'm a sucker for these kind of small scale sci-fi movies and the horror elements introduced through the titular character are the icing on the cake.
I may be one of the only people not suprised by the top pick - it's a solid choice.
Great list! I'd throw in Joker, El Camino, and Ad Astra personally.
Bold first choice! I'm excited to hear your full thoughts. Also thank you for giving some love to Rocketman!
Have a great New Year
No, no, you're completely right about Lego Movie 2. It deserves WAY more love
1. Avengers Endgame
2. Frozen 2
3. Knives Out
4. Joker
5. Us
6. Hustlers
7. Marriage Story
8. Spiderman Far From Home
9. Alita
10. Aladdin
PS. Some people might be lowkey pissed about some films being way too low but i base my rankings on the rewatch-ability factor so while i loved marriage story, i don’t think i’ll be rewatching that film as much as the others
OMG is your pin from Jackson Bird??? i love it and him
Your ability to speak uninterrupted is pretty impressive, as are your views.
Booksmart
2. Us
3. Knives Out
4. Happy Death Day 2U
5. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
I actually completely forgot "Detective Pikachu" existed. My, my, there's been a lot of films coming out this year.
Oh, yeah. Every new clip/trailer I saw of "The Lion King" was painful. I refused to be dragged to see that one.😤
1 Lion king (2019)
2 Cats
3 Arctic Dogs
4 does the first Sonic Trailer count
5 Charlie's Angels (2019)
Lol, I saw Charlie's angels on your list and was about to ask if it actually a good movie then I saw the rest of your list
So now I am guessing it is a sarcastic list?
The sarcasm is strong in this one.
But my top pick and bottom pick:
Bottom: Cats. Because of course I saw cats. I was legally obligated to with how much I watched the musical as a kid. Its awful and surreal and disturbing in ways the filmmakers definitely didnt intend. I had a fun time watching it but it is definitely the worst movie I watched this year
Top: Knives Out.
Anyway, have a great New Year, and see you at the LEGO Movie The Second Part video!
Quick game for the end of the year, can you name the videos that are featured in the beginning of the video
What happened to the Lego Movie 2 video?
Dude John Wick 3 and Once Upon A Time in Hollywood both smack. Like honestly dude they easily break my top 10
Devil May Cry 5
Fire Emblem Three Houses
Code Vein
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice
Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night.
Resident Evil 2 Remake.
Wargroove.
Disco Elysium. (
Weird list. I forgot Lego Movie 2 came out this year (but I also loved it). I watch a hella lot of movies, my list (not ranked) is something like....
-Avengers: Engame
-Jojo Rabbit
-Marriage Story
-Parasite
-Shazam!
-Uncut Gems
-Us
I watched Shazam on a plane. I liked it, but thought the Sins were far too generic. I couldn't tell which one was which sin for half of them.
That was the big complaint my son and I had as well.
I saw US on a date, we both had a blast.
I haven’t seen as many new films this year as I would have liked to, but my top 5 would be:
1. Joker
2. Uncut Gems
3. Doctor Sleep
4. Booksmart
5. Us
I can’t really decide between Knives Out or Once Upon A Time In Hollywood.
Spiderman far from home had me look at my watch for about a hour and a half not a great sign.
Top 10 movies i saw this year although i only saw 11 films this year xD
1. Avengers Endgame
2. Joker
3. Toy Story 4
4. Terminator Dark Fate (i really enjoyed this film even though it didn't make to much money i liked it)
5. The Aeronaughts
6. Rise of Skywalker
7. Rambo
8. Charlie's Angels
9. Captain Marvel
10. Spiderman far from home
I'm disappointed that JOJO RABBIT, MARRIAGE STORY, and PARASITE didn't even get a mention.
It's because I haven't seen any of them.
@@CouncilofGeeks I recommend all of them.
@@CouncilofGeeks JoJo Rabbit is the most original movie I've seen in forever. If it doesn't walk away with the original screenplay Oscar it certainly deserves to. But I didn't see Us, either. Highly recommend JoJo!
I want a Team Rocket movie so bad
A Lonely Goldfish you mean Pokemon's Team Rocket? A movie set in the Pokemon universe all about Team Rocket?
Cause if so, I agree.
Amylia Clenny yeah. I want a campy, forth wall breaking, kinda queer movie about cross dressing inept criminals.
I might see Rocketman
Plan on seeing Frozen II
I like Far from Home, better than Green Lantern
I will skip Lion King 2019.
Toy Story 4 is ok, I will give it a rewatch.
I will see Us.
I will watch Lego Movie 2 and look forward to your video on it.
I ended up going to the Cinema 7 times this year, and here was how my rankings played out:
7. Captain Marvel
6. Shazam!
5. Terminator: Dark Fate
4. Spider-man: Far From Home
3. Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker
2. Knives Out
1. Avengers: Endgame
Captain marvel and Alita on the same list. Very brave. Very cool.
nice list
_My obligatory list of every movie I've seen that no one asked for-_
I recommend reading it backwards from the way up.
1. *Avengers: Endgame-* 9/10 Ik I'm normie trash for putting this one at #1 but that's where it is
2. *Rise of Skywalker-* 9/10 I know it's a mess but I freaking loved it anyways.
3. *Jojo Rabbit-* 9/10 Taika Waititi is a legend.
4. *Knives Out-* 8.5/10 Rian Johnson is also a legend, so I hear
5. *Spider-Man: Far From Home-* 8.5/10 Has issues, but the great stuff is what I remember it for
6. *Shazam!-* 8/10 Probably my favorite DCEU movie
10. *Toy Story 4-* 7.5/10 Carried by its animation & comedy mostly
*Everything else-*
*MY FAVORITES:*
1. Detective Pikachu
2. Abominable
3. How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World
4. Aladdin
5. Last Christmas
My personal top 5
1. Godzilla KOTM
2. Endgame
3. Far from Home
4. Rise of Skywalker
5. Captain Marvel
Just wanna reiterate, knowing your taste, you'll LOOOOVE Parasite. Definitely check it out, and don't look up anything about it (except that it's in Korean).
My top 4 favmovies 20191 forzen 2 2 avengers endgame 3 spiderman far forme home 4 and my wost 2019 movie os catpin marvle
😂😂😂
I will agree that toy story 4 was a great movie but it did make me cry at the end
i like the analysis of the movies, but you probably saw like 20 movies this year haha you should probably at least see 60 plus (including netflix ones)
Once upon a time in Hollywood is one of the best film of the decade... full stop. (It has the most bizarre ending and it makes it amazing g for your first watch)
I'm 100% with you on the Lego Movie 2 being number 1.
1 - Avengers: Endgame
.
2 - Joker
.
3 - Happy Death Day 2U
.
4 - Glass
.
5 - Cats
.
6 - Us
.
7 - Lego Movie 2: The Second Part
.
8 - Shazam
.
9 - Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker
.
10 - 1917
.
Please note. These are my favorites, not the best.
I was amazed by the Lego Movie pt 2. It was fantastic!
Shazam is the best film I've seen this year, and I've seen all the big ones. My #1
I enjoyed it too.
Please please PLEASE watch Marriage Story! It would undoubtedly have made this list.
You missed some good movies. Little Women 2019 is really good. Bombshell is great. Irishman is on Netflix.1917 is a Great War movie. Dark Waters is Mark Ruffalo's best film. Judy is a great biopic.
Yeah, a world you want to live in one of the pokemon franchises main strengths
No Joker, El Camino or Knives Out on a list like this... Lists like this remind me how subjective taste really is.
1. Avengers Endgame!!!
More Than Everything, It's My Favourite This Year!!!!!
detective pikachu is THE best game to film movie... nothing even comes close to it thus far
And, because the sentiment never fades: F@CK PARAMOUNT!!!
really. no mention of joker?
Nope. Phoenix was amazing but I didn't much care for the film. Though I don't feel so bad that I needed to slag it off either. It's just "a film I saw this year," alongside Rise of Skywalker and Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood.
@@CouncilofGeeks fair enough
I wanted to be all in with the MCU....and then Marvel fucked it all up for me. For me, personally. If it didn't for you, that's great. The only Marvel movies I've liked since The Avengers were Black Panther and Captain Marvel. I haven't seen Us or Toy Story 4. I did enjoy Detective Pikachu and I thought The Lego Movie 2 was really good. I think, at this point, Cats is catching up to The Lion King as the worst movie of the year.
9:09 - GASP!!!! Only at #5!!??
Did you know rocketman won two awards 😀
I try to see 24-25 movies a year. This year I only managed to see 21.
BY MY TASTES - this was a mediocre year for movies. There was nothing that I though was great - like Hidden Figure or Anniliation or Into the Spiderverse. There were a lot of things that I had forgotten I'd even seen during the last year.
So, my best three are: Ready or Not, Knives Out, and Rocketman.
The two movies I was disappointed with and hated the most: Velvet Buzzsaw, and Ad Astra.
Is frustrated becuse he doesn't put The Lego Movie 2 on the list by the time the top three rolled around.
Puts Lego Movie 2 at number one.
There are only three best movies of 2019:
1. Avengers: Endgame
2. Captain Marvel
3. Spider-Man: Far From Home
There, I've said it!! :-)
Irishman is
Number One for me
Far from home is one of the best mcu films!!
The Lion King remake would have been shit even if it wasn't a remake imo. Aggressively bad.
Endgame is only as good as it is because of the other films, endgame as a stand alone film is pretty bland
Good list. Anything but "Joker". Ugh.
Why too dark for you?
Dark Phoenix was bad. I hated that
You can't make a list about the best movies of the year without seeing the best movies of the year😂😂😂 go watch the irishman please
