  • In this Part 1 of a very long two days of flying, Dan Millican (@off.taking) prepares for his CFI Initial checkride with his instructor Juan Vasquez-Rosa. This is the taxi and shortfield takeoff from T67 Hicks in Fort Worth, heading towards JSO Cherokee County in East Texas (where Millican will have his checkride the next day).

If you don't already have it planned, a round-table discussion with your DPE about your CFI-initial ride would be wing-rockin' interesting to watch.

Nice, I bet you passed! My CFI initial was exhausting. 8 hour oral , then dealt with some of the busiest class D airspace in country at Mesa Gateway . A day I’ll never forget

I did and it was grueling. I only had a 6.5 hour oral. Lol.

I took one guy to do his checkride over Hicks once, and I found it a little hard to taxi with two cars in the taxiway blocking our way... come on guys.
Nice video, keep the good work up.

Dan I want to say thank you for your advice on how to study for the Foi and I just got my CFI this past Tuesday.
It is very rewarding after you finish it.

On my CFI checkride, the examiner did not take the controls very much. He took the controls and told me to teach him about unusual attitude recoveries. And I think other than that I had to fly everything else and teach it as I flew it.

Fun to see Hicks field. I am currently working on my PPL at Hicks. Getting close. Love these kind of videos. It gives me confidence that I can pass my check ride. Almost there.

Did you forget about putting down some amount of flaps specifically for that short field takeoff you did? Or, that your plane manufacturer doesn't want you to do that so you didn't?

These are highly edited so I don’t include everything. But short field TO in the 210 calls for standard 10 degrees.
