This album and a couple others got me thru that summer. I spent that summer at my father's place. No rock records. The neighbor girl, bless her to this day, had this album, the live Rate Earth album, and Billion Dollar Babies.
My wife & I got to see and meet Mark Farner in Branson, Missouri last October. He still has it at age 65. He is very down to earth and such a nice person. If I could pick a rock star to meet I'm glad it was him. He just like talking to a neighbor. Cool guy, and he can ROCK!
You're right in a lot of ways. Just true rock, hard rock, and probably never got the street cred they deserved. Glad I got to see them in concert even before this 'Neon Era'
they were right around the top til new york record companys took over with the american band album . but b4 then during markdonmel/grandfunklive era they hung with any other hard rock band
markyncole Well with the bong rattling bass of Mel Schacher, the competent drumming of Don Brewer and the wild shirtless lyrics of Mark Farner why wouldnt it be?
Don B. played drums to the music. He never needed to fill a song up with random noise. His aim was to entertain their fans... and "that" he did !!! I rank him as best drummer ever because of this trait, but... moreover because of his "atomic clock" like accuracy when speaking of "tempo". Listen, sometime, to just his rhythm. He is ON TIME.
What a killer intro to a rock tune. Before there was the Joe Perry's n the Eddie Van Halen's trademark of goin' shirtless on stage, you had mr. Mark Farner runnin' around.
I love this kind of song where you think it's going to end, and then they keep jamming harder and you think Damn, that was cool, then they kick it up another notch. What a kick ass tune!
I saw this show. It was my first concert. Me and the drummer of my first band went and we thought we were in heaven. He wanted those puffy sleeves and I wished my hair was blond and straight. If only we could have played shirtless!!
Incredible Talent! Love a drummer who can sing and Play Drums simultaneously! A difficult feat to keep a melody and Beat at the same time! All in Grand Funk are Awesome! Stellar Band!
pure energy, pure stage performance, genius band right on time, the 70's ,burnt up two taped decks and many cassettes, still got my ears, remarkable,GFR top of the world performance
“Nobody knows the band Grand Funk?” “The wild, shirtless lyrics of Mark Farner? The bong-rattling bass of Mel Schacher? The competent drum work of Don Brewer? Oh, man!”
Hey you kids born in the 70's now you know what your folks were listening to! Thanks for posting, now I know where early Van Halen got some inspiration!🤣
look at the feed back posting section here? you won't find any modern day teeny boppers over here on this side of youtube! considering that in 1974 when this came out I was in the 7th. grade. Yes Sir. No katy perry or Taylor Swift fans over here on this side!
+tony friend I don't really see the need for the ageism. Of course you're not going to find many younger kids/teens fans on here- it's not exactly popular music or relevant to kids 30 years later. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that time has been unkind to the music and it's no longer listenable or anything like that, I'm just saying that there's not really any means for kids to even discover Grank Funk at this time, like I'm sure there once was. I imagine there was a time when it was hard _not_ to know who they were, in the 70s, when they were an active band, producing new music, touring, and seeing way more radio airtime than they would today. If it weren't for my dad I'd probably not really have heard of them or looked into them further than the couple tunes you hear on the radio every now and then.
Colin Brain a lot of kids are discovering 80s metal. I've seen quite a bit of that on here, for instance I see comments like" I was born in the wrong decade" on a Dokken video. it's cool seeing that nowadays.
tony friend that's the way it is weather you choose to accept that or not. Dont worry dude, I'm not here to start an 80s rock conversation or to debate you on which style of music is better, have a nice day.
Use to play this Album that was in 3D with a 3D poster, and 3D glasses with my Strobe Light flickering away. Went to Never-Never Land with the moment. Lol
Craig Frost definitely was a key player in this band. His keyboard playing is also underrated he is up there with the best of them. When you hear him you always think of Grand Funk.
If only Mark's freak flag could have flown a bit longer but Grand Funk gave us some of the greatest music of the 70s. What aspiring rocker didnt dream of being Mark Farner on stage??? He had it ALL packed in satin pants. Yeow.
Heyyy man, thanks everr sooo much for this upload, one of mine favorite Grand Funk tunes, Mr. Vanhalen, had nothing over our Mark Farner, back in the days , hahaha, just my opinion, GFR foreeverr
"Shinin' On" We are winners and losers, bedfellow choosers Put here to pass by the time We are space-age sailors, all had our failures Now everybody gonna' shine Keep it shinin' on Keep it shinin' on See the fire within them burnin' Touch the fire, make me feel so fine Keep the fire within you livin' Everybody gonna' shine, shine, shine Keep it shinin' on Keep it shinin', shinin' on Keep it shinin' on Shinin' on Shinin' on What? Alright Keep it shinin' on Keep it shinin', shinin' on Keep it shinin' on Keep it shinin' on, shinin' on, shinin' on Keep it shinin', keep it shinin', keep it shinin' on Keep it shinin', keep it shinin', keep it shinin' on Keep it shinin', keep it shinin', keep it shinin' on Keep it shinin', keep it shinin', keep it shinin' on Keep it shinin', keep it shinin', keep it shinin' on Keep it shinin', keep it shinin', keep it shinin' on Keep it shinin', keep it shinin', keep it shinin' on
The "FunK" Funking Out and having Fun doing it! 2 Bad the original GFR couldn't resolve their $$$$ differences and do a World Tour again! Looks like they will never..."Shine On"!!!
I have loved Grand Funk since I first heard them in '69 or '70! Although I was a young kid, I had a knack for great music. I remember my Sunday School teacher gave me the live GFR two cassette set whenever it came out. I was hooked!! They had such raw talent, and the energy resonated right through you. Mark was so fine!! And his hair was the envy of all. Actually mine was alot like his, blonde and straight. Anyway, it's a shame they got f'd by that Knight guy, then two of them turned around and f'd Mark. They need their asses whipped!! I so wish I had gone to see them back then, at least at one of the '74 shows but I was a year or two too young. It's time for them to put their differences aside for us fans and tour one more time for old time sake!! I love "Mean Mistreater" but can't find it live on You Tube. I did have it on the cassette but that's long gone.l
Grand Funk had a great groove. It's funny how they "pranced" around the stage! The bass player almost looked like he had to go to the bathroom the way he walked.
The live version is better than the album. Their albums tended to be kind of flat and over-produced, although the music was still great. And Mark Farner in tight pants.... well....
We'd like to thank you all for coming out here tonight, and puttin' that funky smell into the air. We'd like ya ta blow some up this a way!!! I know wrong album. Wrong song even. But when Mark says that they would like to play a couple of songs off their new album. Well that was the first thing that popped into my head!!!
One of the all time great rock songs. Never got the airplay it deserved.
I saw this live in '75 and it was one of the highlights of the show. You had to be there!!
I agree! As a guitarist I'm floored by how organic, raw and powerful they were. They wrote the book from which later bands copied.
The wild shirtless lyrics of Mark Farner, the bone rattling bass of Mel Schacher, the competent drumwork of Don Brewer.
Oh man! Take me back to 1974! This 65 year old guy is still rockin out!
This album and a couple others got me thru that summer. I spent that summer at my father's place. No rock records. The neighbor girl, bless her to this day, had this album, the live Rate Earth album, and Billion Dollar Babies.
That’s what a kickass rock band is all about.
Great taste of the music...HOMER SIMPSON!
Dou
My wife & I got to see and meet Mark Farner in Branson, Missouri last October. He still has it at age 65. He is very down to earth and such a nice person. If I could pick a rock star to meet I'm glad it was him. He just like talking to a neighbor. Cool guy, and he can ROCK!
The world's greatest rock and roll band - Grand Funk Railroad. One of the most exciting songs to hit the airwaves was Shinin On!
Man, Don Brewer sets the world on fire... Would love to see theses guys together again.
true rock and roll...
Now this right here is music. Everybody shredding on their instruments and not a hint of a backing track or auto tune in sight.
Love the echo-plex at the beginning and end of the song!
Mark playing his Veleno Original. Aluminum guitars were not the easiest to keep tuned from what I heard
@@garyrasberryjr.552 especially live they were affected by the lights. His messenger was aluminum to
And the phase shifter on the guitar
Mark, Don, Mel and Craig rippin' it up!
One of the best and most energetic rock bands I ever had the privilege of seeing twice.
Just feel the energy!!!! Unbelievable.
I can see why they're Homer Simpson's favorite band.
markyncole Well with the bong rattling bass of Mel Schacher, the competent drumming of Don Brewer and the wild shirtless lyrics of Mark Farner why wouldnt it be?
The feel and intensity and energy from 1:25 to 1:45 is frickin’ amazing.
Agree... Craig Frost was a great addition.
Don B. played drums to the music.
While I'll agree he's a great drummer and singer, he's no John Bonham. That man was on a level all his own.
paradisemace1 then he became a dick and screwed MARK FARNER.
Don B. is still one of the best RNR singers.
@@Stclairm1he may not have had the technical ability of Bonham, but Don did have better meter than him.
What a killer intro to a rock tune. Before there was the Joe Perry's n the Eddie Van Halen's trademark of goin' shirtless on stage, you had mr. Mark Farner runnin' around.
S yarbrough dude was stacked
I find it funny that you said Eddie Van Halen, if you listen very well , you can hear Eddie ripped off the lick for mean street..clear as day
Hey Mark had something to strut❣️
I love this kind of song where you think it's going to end, and then they keep jamming harder and you think Damn, that was cool, then they kick it up another notch. What a kick ass tune!
One of the most beautiful live song of rock music
The florescent outfits are a gas. These guys were huge when I was in jr. high. Still have some of their albums.
A perfect oiled rock machine they was!!!
I saw this show. It was my first concert. Me and the drummer of my first band went and we thought we were in heaven. He wanted those puffy sleeves and I wished my hair was blond and straight. If only we could have played shirtless!!
.... Saturday, June 1, 1974 .... the L.A. Forum! lol no, I wasn't there, I was not quite 3 years old .... but I'm sort of a rock historian 8-)
I need my 3d glasses. Those were the days...
Blowin it Up!!! Awesome performance!! Grand Funk Rulez!!!
Incredible Talent! Love a drummer who can sing and Play Drums simultaneously! A difficult feat to keep a melody and Beat at the same time! All in Grand Funk are Awesome! Stellar Band!
Kenneth Morrison 1 yea but he is a dick who screwed MARK FARNER

I CANNOT STOP WATCHIN N LISTEN ING TO GFR!!!. Thus is like A NEW METAL BAND TO ME THAT I MISSED 40 YRS AGO!! DAM GLAD ITS ON UTUBE!!
Mark, Don, Mel and Craig - THEY ARE GREAT !
“Nobody knows the band Grand Funk?” “The wild, shirtless lyrics of Mark Farner? The bong-rattling bass of Mel Schacher? The competent drum work of Don Brewer? Oh, man!”
The irony is that don brewer was the most talented by far. The most perfect meter in drumming.
Hey you kids born in the 70's now you know what your folks were listening to!
Thanks for posting, now I know where early Van Halen got some inspiration!🤣
Sounds like Eddie stole the lick for mean street
@@theriot5150 Hahaha!!!
The tightest rock band to ever walk the planet!
That's a whole lotta funk! Brewer looks like he's about to blow a gasket back there. Holy mackerel, talk about high energy.
This is one of the greatest psychedelic rock songs ever performed
David Bullock, psychedelic? lol. whatever
yah, funk rock, really ..... funk metal, maybe.
Mark got such a great sound with the phase shifter on the guitar.
Legendary
What a bad ass drummer. He sings too. Damn nice job.
One of the top three Farner guitar solos of all time, just killing it.
Outstanding performance!
Счастлив, что был подростком в то время и вырос на подобной музыке. Это было золотое время рока.

i really, really love this Grand Funk Railroad video presentation cause it jus pumps me up!
My Another favourite song from GFR
This is disconcerting-he is the epitome of health/vigor/talent/long life
The best live performance closest to the studio version I've ever heard. They really pulled this one off remarkably well.
Never gets old does it.
EXCELLENT!!!! 3 guys Shinin On!!! What ever happened to ROCK AND ROLL???
Kids today don't have a DAMN CLUE!!!

Fantastic drummer! AND he's the lead singer as well, damn, that's gotta be difficult to pull that off. Impressive. ❤😎
Craig Frost definitely was a key player in this band. His keyboard playing is also underrated he is up there with the best of them. When you hear him you always think of Grand Funk.
And the drummer what a sound 5 piece
Sorry I think 4 piece
Yes, Craig was fabulous! He shows all his skill especially on this song live!
Don Brewer is amazing!
Don Brewer!!! Rock'n'roll Monster!!!!
How could a guy like Mark Farner EVER need a pacemaker?
one of my top 5 favourite songs

His use of the phase shifter probably came from Mark Farner too
Only Don Brewer could get away with that shirt cause his drumming was too good..
dave jones He is a big I Love Lucy fan! Bobbaloo! Great drummer!
dave jones Cocaine's a helluva drug
KarnEvil4 who else could drum better, than L.Z.'s late-great "john Bonham" Donny,B. knows now, that we all miss "Bonzo"
bkrbyex4339 John Bonham was the best RnR drummer there ever was, hands down.

Homer Simpson loves Grand Funk
Not just shirtless, but those harmonics Mr. Van Halen was famous for!
And the phase shifter
The live version is better than the album. Their albums tended to be kind of flat and over-produced, although the music was still great. And Mark Farner in tight pants.... well....
I prefer the album version but this is no doubt the best live performance I've seen of the song.
my new favorite
Awesome!
Not a huge fan but this is one of my fave guitar solos of all time.
Wow don brewer has that heavy drum playing like john bonham he is so cool even today don is a cool dude just like John
