Mirabell did not make a plan to arrange a marriage between Lady Wishfort and his servant. Rather, he devised a plan to deceive Lady Wishfort into thinking that he (Mirabell) was not interested in marrying her niece, Millamant. Mirabell's ultimate goal was to secure Lady Wishfort's consent for him to marry Millamant, and he believed that he could accomplish this by making Lady Wishfort believe that her own interests were being served.
Mirabell's servant, Waitwell, became involved in the deception when Mirabell convinced Lady Wishfort that Waitwell was actually Mirabell's uncle, Sir Rowland. Mirabell then arranged for Waitwell to marry Lady Wishfort's servant, Foible, in order to further his plan to win Lady Wishfort's approval. However, Waitwell and Foible's marriage was not a part of Mirabell's original plan to deceive Lady Wishfort. It was simply a side effect of the larger scheme.
