It's not that Qui-Gon got the short end of the saber, but WHERE he got it. Maul stabbed him in the solar plexus, above the diaphragm. Obi-Wan wasn't a "healer", most Jedi weren't at this time as it was a "gift" one showed potential for and were normally trained deeper in the skill.
Barris was NOT taken aside for deeper Healer training, as she was a Miralan and put with Luminara for cultural reasons.
Qui-Gon was unable to breathe and focused on becoming one with the force and if there is an inconsistency, it's that his body did not vanish upon death as Obi-Wan and Yoda's did.

It looked to me like Qui-Gon got it right in the middle, which would end up severing his spine. Everyone else who survived got if off to the side. Just based on Qui-Gon we all expected everyone who got stabbed anywhere in the torso to die, but it was never explicitly stated that lightsabers cooked the internals to the point of death. To me, it’s just not an important thing to fight about. Qui-Gon had to die to allow Anakin to fall to the Dark Side, so he got stabbed in a very vital area. Not much of a story if Anakin stayed true and just killed the Emperor.

I see your point that out of (the far too many imo) lightsaber stabbings, Baris makes the most logical sense to have plausibly survived. In the EU, she debuted as part of the Jedi Healers before her on-screen appearance. It is plausible that using a form of meditation, she could have slowed down certain processes.
I just wish someone would look over the lore from the past and present and give us more of those concepts that were sadly, never explored. It is a much richer tapestry when people can just get along.

Barriss lost a large part of life energy using Force Heal, without any medical implements, stopped breathing as Lynn, whose ship was too far to see, carried her out of the icy cave, and with that and weather on the planet there is no feasable chance she survived.

One thing not being taken into effect is that Barriss Offee is a Mirialan, and as such, does not have the same internal anatomy as Sabine. Even though Sabine is human, the area she was stabbed was not immediately fatal and Ahsoka got her medical attention at once. Qui-Gon, OTOH, was stabbed right in the chest, which would have damaged much of his pulmonary/respiratory systems. He could have survived if he'd received immediate medical attention, but Obi-Wan was delayed in this by the little issue of Darth Maul. I honestly don't see why people get so freaked at someone surviving a lightsaber stabbing, when it's little different than a bladed weapon.

Now I commented on this post already. Now I want to talk about this lightsaber stabbing and survival. I actually believe that Star Wars / Disney is trying to correct a problem that seeped into Star Wars lore. I always wondered why someone died simply by being stabbed in the torso by a lightsaber. It doesn't make any sense. Most humans could fully recover from a through and through stab with a sword made of metal to the side. Now with a lightsaber that's so hot it would immediately cauterize the wound. That would eliminate internal bleeding. This needed to be corrected and I think showing people surviving this side stab, if you will , over and over. Is to continually show this as a non-lethal stab. But also notice who's doing the stabbing. Star Wars fans think any stab from a light saber was instant death. It doesn't say this anywhere I've ever heard of. If we're talking about Jedi Knight vs Sith Lord those individuals that are stabbed like Qui-Gon are being stabbed by a trained Sith assassin or Jedi Knight. Someone trained in lightsaber combat for years and they would have learned the exact spots to strike a killing blow with a lightsaber. Now those individuals compared to lesser force users stabbing with a lightsaber like Shin or the 4th sister. They aren't as skilled with a lightsaber as true Sith and true Jedi would be. They don't know exactly where to strike a deadly blow at yet. As Shin Hati is still a learner and Inquisitors were known to be poorly trained on purpose. So side stabs by these individuals are poorly placed and do not cause death due to not having all the training and knowledge of say Darth Maul. They still need to learn how to kill not just mame. If a true Sith or Jedi was stabbed that way by Shin. It would have been her Doom. As it's not a killing blow and leaves Shin open for a full trained lightsaber master to behead her after her poorly placed stab. I mean at on point in the comics Vader side stabs himself ! He does this to kill an opponent behind him. I don't know exactly why fans ever thought every and any lightsaber stab was instant death. Which is just a jump many fans have made watching Masters fight and fall from a stab though the torso. Not realizing this is deadly not because of the lightsaber itself but by being properly trained where to place that one blow to kill the other. Not enough credit is given to the Jedi or Sith for all the training they do. So people jump to rash conclusions not understanding how much years of training would have shaped them into one blow killers not simply just using the lightsaber blade itself.

In real life people get stabbed, shot repeatedly, fall from heights, get ejected from cartwheeling cars, etc who live. A lightsaber is going to cauterize the wound, so survival doesn't seem so far fetched.

Fair point, but a light saber can effortlessly slice through in any direction, whereas, steel cuts in only two directions requiring much effort to do so. When someone is stabbed by the saber being turned on and off, I’m on board. Otherwise any small movement would cut someone in half.

It's not the character Barriss Offee that's the problem. Tales of the Empire was just awful and boring. It tried to give you that surprise twist but it did it by showing Offee very Sith like in all the trailers getting you ready to at least interact with Vader. Actually be an Inquisitor for a second. Then see her redemption in the force. We got "surprise" we tricked you she's a good guy now. That's not a twist it's a trick. Why Filoni decided to trick all of Star Wars fandom IDK? It left a bad taste in everyone's mouth though. Seems like a major slip up for Filoni. See we don't see that in this story of Offee. We got a heavy handed look she's a good guy now, show. We didn't see her redeemed by the force or the Jedi. And the Sith just let an Inquisitor quit and did nothing seems extremely foolhardy of Vader and Sideous and the Grand Inquisitor. Offee's only shown to be redeemed in the audience's eyes. So I would only assume that Offee will be seen in live action on the side of the light soon too as was Ahsoka. Because we really didn't get any explanation, no reasoning really behind her change of heart again back to the light. The whole show came off, to me and most of the commenters I've seen, as disjointed and very disappointing. Hopefully they didn't dig up the character Offee just to make 'Tales of the Empire' that would truly be a tragedy 😂. Plus if you watched Tales of the Jedi it gave us background on Dooku , an already dead character and Ahsoka right before she broke out in her own live action show. I don't think Offee is getting a show. I believe more towards her showing up in Ahsoka as you said as well. So if it follows the same pattern of Tales of the Jedi. Then we saw background on Morgan Esbeth an already dead character and Offee a now alive and put back out in the world. So that was just a reintroduction of the Offee character to the audience not a redemption in the eyes of the Jedi, Sith, or even redeemed at all in the force. We're just shown she's a healer now and we as an audience can expect her soon in live action. I believe the newly finished Bad Batch did the same thing by bringing Ventress back from the dead. She co-stared in one episode but it was really just to reintroduce her character back to the living in the eyes of the audience. So now they reintroduced Ventress as well. So she will soon show up in live action as well.

i feel like a lot of people forget that Barriss was considered a force healer prodigy, in a time where the ability to force heal was a rare ability. Before Disney there was the Medstar books about her time being stationed at a front line medical center. She was one of the most skilled practitioners of force heal and she was still a padawan. so i have no problem with her surviving a stabbing in a less vital organ, its likely she just went into a meditative stasis in order to survive long enough for the force heal ability to work on herself.

    1 Minute about Ventress Return
7 Minutes about Barriss Return and How she survived
As for her survival, I agree that this is the only example where a character should survive, and I personally believe that if she didn’t survive, it wouldn’t make sense because of this argument and because of the way that scene looked and that it was simply too early.
Regarding the return of both characters:
I really want one of them to take Shin as a student. Ahsoka has Sabine, and I’d prefer she didn’t have two students so quickly.
Shin is ambitious and destructive, which sounds a lot like Ventress.
On the other hand, she "likes" to create a comfort zone and she is totally lost, and is a bit of a rule follower, so that sounds like Barriss.

What I liked about Tales of the Empire was the contrast between Morgan and Barriss who were both taken by the dark side but then chose diverging destinies. Barriss and Lynn could have been killed by another inquisitor while attempting to leave and the story would still be good. What is important about Morgan and Barriss isn't their fate. It's how they arrived at their fates. Whether or not this leads to Barriss having a role in the upcoming Star Wars productions is not as important.
That said, there is a strong case to be made that the characters of Barriss and Ventris coming back in Ahsoka's story. They were possibly the most important characters to Ahsoka's story in the Clone Wars than anyone other than Anakin and Obi-Wan. And if they are brought back in Ahsoka's next season, Barriss and Ventris would make another great contrast. Barriss was expelled from the Jedi order, was briefly in the service of the dark side, and has returned as a self-proclaimed jedi. Ahsoka resigned from the jedi order and does not identify as a jedi, and is more of a gray jedi. Ventris used to be a sith, was betrayed by her master, and has survived by embracing a less fanatical existence- even less so than Maul who suffered a similar fate. All three have survived without the masters and orders they once served and have found a new path. If they are brought together again in a future show, it would be interesting to see if they still see each other as enemies or if they can embrace their mutual loss and work together. If they do come together, I suspect that they will begin on opposite sides and ultimately be forced to unite against their common enemy which will either be Thrawn something worse.

With that said, any lightsaber stab would destroy the body with that kind of heat in the body. You're not lopping off a limb you are burning internal nerves & organs. So Disney sucks they lack creativity, ignore continuity, And just make $hit up as they go. And they are so stubborn and against the fans they double down out of spite.

They were both young, but i guess Ahsoka would forgive Bariss and it kind of saved her life!
As for Asajj who was once a enemy of Ahsoka but became Allies of some sort just like Bo-Katan, it means in this circle of Friends they are all a powerful group not to be messed with. Bariss the Healer, Asajj the Bounty Hunter, Bo-Katan the leader and Ahsoka the White, what a combination!

They’re going all in with “The Force is Female”, ehh? Guesss that Sabine and Barris can survive a lightsaber to the gut, and be perfectly fine after. Barris’s stab location was also more lethal than Qui-Gon’s btw, but “The Force is Female”. They ruined Luke, Han, Boba, Thrawn, Lando, and Obi-Wan, while making all of the females indestructible and perfect. What a joke,

They both clearly got their livers fried like foie gras. Probably a section of their small intestines too. And a good chance that the base of their stomachs got charred too.
Just think back to when Qui Gonn rammed his lightsaber into those insanely thick double security doors in just the first few minutes of Episode I.
