He assigned himself the secretary of agriculture despite a complete lack of expertise in that field. It's been one of the areas which Filipinos felt the need for reform to a greater degree, because prices for food have been skyrocketing (even before his presidency). You could see memes of a kilo of onions costing 5€. He's claimed, in that address, that prices for commodities like rice, fish and onions were dropping, but that's indeed not been noticed by anyone. He's been mocked for it online.
He's a populist with a long list of promises and no plans nor actions. His cabinet is marred of nepotism and demonstrably corrupt.
What hasn't been mentioned in the video, but in the comments, is that he's the son of a dictator that embezzled an unfathomable amount of money and ruined the country's economic development for a generation.
Current regulations won't allow him nor any other to run for a second term. The only reprieve we may hope for. The country will stumble forward as it did.

He's doing it to prioritize and tackle the food crisis. I'm sure he has help and advisors. In a way, Marcos is directly saying "Yes, food security and independence is a problem. I'm going to make it a priority by tackling it myself." Sides, the Agriculture department is so bureaucratically slow, corrupt and inept that having someone directly on the wheels may get things actually moving. Anyone who's worked in Philippine Agriculture knows, land and agrarian reforms has always been an issue with each and every administration and they never managed to solve it nor made more than a slow decent progress.
Every year. Every new administration always always always talks about Land and Agricultural Reform. Every single time. We always hear it in every election for the past 80 years.
At least this time, he's sure what is going on and we can blame or praise him with certainty.

Actually, the reason for the rise in prices was the crackdown on illegally imported veggies like onions (Mostly From China).
Obviously, the domestic farmers can't keep up production as much 🥲
The goal will is basically getting Filipinos to fill in the gap. He's forcing domestic production - an opportunity for farmers ❤

Why activists want to change divorce laws in the Philippines
"We want to be free." That's the message of an increasing number of women in the Philippines, who are trapped in marriages they cannot escape. That's because divorce is illegal in the Catholic majority country.
The only other place in the world, where this is the case, is the Vatican.
Calls by activists are growing louder for divorce to be legalized - but they face a powerful opposition. Our next report introduces you to a woman who's been fighting for more than decade to legally be separated from her husband.. and who is slowly losing hope.

Took a generation to recover from his father's incompetence. Early 2000s before the Philippine GDP equaled the mid 80s. Meanwhile, during those decades, countries like vietnam doubled their economy 2-3 times and simply outpaced them. Imagine how much better off their economy would have been today without his daddy doing uncontrolled borrowing.

Although I'm one of those who voted for him last 2022 Elections, surely I have the right to criticize the government for its incompetencies. I still have hopes for this administration. I pray that the new Cold War between US and China will not result to a real wae or wider conflict. We Filipinos are citizen of the country that wants to be friend with all and enemies to none.

Philippines is a developing nation. There's are a lot of work to do. My hope's and i know his already doing this, his primary focus should be in education. Health care. Agriculture. More infrastructure. Then his secondary focus will be numerous job oppurtunities both local and international. Tighten the fight aganist crime and corruption then drugs will also be elimated. More defense capabilities for the AFP and PNP. This is my personal opinion for this administration.

Marcos Jr has more than 80% trust and approval rating. Much more than the 57% he got during the last year's presidential elections. Less than 7% expressed disapproval to the way he is handling the Country.
Clearly, an overwhelming number of Filipinos see an improvement of their lives under the Marcos Jr administration.
Ans this approval rating is based on the fact that despite global economic issues, the Philippines managed to post a 7.6% GDP growth in 2022.
    In the last the
3 quarters, the Philippines had the highest GDP growth in the ASEAN and among the highest in the world.
Joblessness rate is the lowest in almost 20 years, poverty and hunger incidence has gone down, agricultural productivity and tourism are up, more businesses are opening.
In the first 6 weeks of 2023, the Government's investment target reached more than 40% of the total target for the year.
People like your guest say that Marcos Jr's achievements are not felt by the people. But numbers from reputable polling firms prove that what they are saying are not true.
While poverty incidence remains high, it has been going down. So is inflation despite the fact that most of the world are experiencing higher than usual inflation.
People like your guest are so out of tune with how the majority of Filipinos see the Marcos Jr Administration.

    What is inflation?
April 19, 2024 | Article from McKinsey and Company
Inflation is the gradual loss of purchasing power, reflected in a broad rise in prices for goods and services.
Inflation has been top of mind for many over the past few years. But how long will it persist? In June 2022, inflation in the United States jumped to 9.1 percent, reaching the highest level since February 1982. The inflation rate has since slowed in the United States, as well as in Europe, Japan, and the United Kingdom, particularly in the final months of 2023. But even though global inflation is higher than it was before the COVID-19 pandemic, when it hovered around 2 percent, it’s receding to historical levels. In fact, by late 2022, investors were predicting that long-term inflation would settle around a modest 2.5 percent. That’s a far cry from fears that long-term inflation would mimic trends of the 1970s and early 1980s-when inflation exceeded 10 percent.
Not only in the Philippines, but globally.

He thinks China is believing him in a childlike manner for his saying one thing and doing another. He choose not to know that SE Asia and ASEAN, in particular, needs China more than the other way. He also pretends not to know that Taiwan is important to China. There's a Chinese saying: 敬酒不吃,吃罚酒。Let's wait and see. Especially if Philippines is an unconditional friend like Israel or a fly by night (within 24 hrs - so to speak, despite 20 years of support) friend like Afghanistan.
