Like energy, people stay stagnant in their inherent forms, life inflicts on them, and they transform, grow, Become anew, it doesn’t just destroy what has been to create something new from nothing. No one ‘Glow’s Up,’ they ‘Grow Up,’ learn from life as life acts on them and their forms fluctuate in turn and time. This term ‘Glow Up’ is being used to say that someone has transformed into a better version of themselves from a past version of themselves, as though they’ve shedded that person and look back at them like a total stranger. The case of the matter is that, people change unlike that of a snake who sheds their skin, they keep intact and grow more like a tree. The tree naturally grows, becoming taller, stronger, more beautiful, losing leaves, but never losing them forever, just going through different seasons of life. We are all still ourselves, we’ve just grown a bit, become wiser, changed in style as a sign of maturity as the tree collects its inner wrings. To me, ‘Glow Up’ sounds like there was no effort put into a long transformation that took trial and error to get to that certain stage in life dismissing the heart ache, tears, and sweat, and the years it took to achieve this polished form of yourself. Don’t underestimate what it took you to get to where you are now, and don’t forget that tribulation either. Because life will go on like this, you will continue to grow and learn, change and transform, into who you are supposed to be no matter how long it takes you to get there. It’s easy to look at past photos of yourself and then look in the mirror and think, ‘wow, I’m suddenly the person I’ve always wanted to be, to look like, to dress like, to have accomplished’ without remembering the journey’s it took to get to the face in the mirror. Maybe you used to be heavier, have acne and now you leaned out and the acne scars are almost gone, or maybe you used to be lazy without feeling like you have a purpose in life. You didn’t just zoom past the journey of eating healthier to lose weight and lose the acne, or simply out grew the baby weight and finally gotten to an age where your hormones have leveled out. You didn’t just get up one day and realized that perhaps it’s not laziness and there’s something underlying this ‘inadequate’ feeling and reached out for help. Or get a promotion in a job that lead you to a different life entirely. You worked hard, you felt the pain, you have the scars to prove it, they’re just faded. Maybe that’s why we’re so quick to forget what the word ‘transformation’ truly means, making it seem easier to achieve on the outside to younger people who are affected by the terminology of ‘Glow Up.’ The truth is, if you see someone change into a happier and healthier version of themselves and wish to do the same, just keep growing up and eventually someone your age will look up to you in the same way. It’s all a matter of time. We don’t get taller, braver, wiser, ‘’prettier’’ (whatever that means to you) over night. It’s all trial and error until we get it right, until we get there. And what’s so beautiful about that is that life is a continuous experiment where you can learn and transform over and over and over and over and over and over…
