At a time when mascot horror was doomed to be stuck to the same drivel of child-friendly pig slop, Poppy Playtime Chapter 3 comes out and proves that you can have bright and colorful visuals and still be scary as fuck.
The thing that is scary is how everything is just frozen in time. You see drinks out like people were having a good time, but no one is there. It's meant to be a happy place... but there is none to be seen. It's a really good contrast.
WHY HELLO THERE OLD SPORT
Fnaf fans cry every time that fnaf ain't for kids, but let's be very honest. Most fnaf fans where kids when they became fans back in 2014. + no blood, no gore. Just "scary" looking animatronics. Lol
I swear if banban does not die in 2024 and its not good im going to Jupiter
isnt fnaf and bendy also mascot horror?
dont think anybody noticed how dogday sounds like a kid in all the merch and cutouts but sounds like a full grown adult when we see him, which makes me wonder how long he has been tortured since he sounds in his 30s
I always imagined dogday to be possessed by one of the adults who knew that the BBI was wrong. Maybe Richie or Stu in my head cannon
in the credits of the cartoon, there's a man named gary wood credited as the in universe voice of dogday, so it could probably be him-
Possibly not that long if you consider that they may have used some employees in the experiments
Somebody explained that Catnap for example, if we calculate his age from when he was human, turned into Catnap and then when we return to the factory....He would be a grown adult. So like Mommy Long Legs sounding like a grown woman, the kids are basically growing into adults while being a toy.
@@Ashbrash1998 CatNap (Theo Grambell) is 22 during the game (7 during his operation + 15 years later)
One thing I love about this chapter is how it tells its lore. While it has hints about the Hour of Joy throughout the setting, they actually do tell you what happened and what the people at Playtime did to the children. I’m actually much more interested in what Poppy Playtime is trying to say with its story now that it’s not being theorybait for theorybait’s sake.

ok im gonna be fair
Poppy Playtime really explains the lore well
unlike FNAF lore, which doesn't really know what it is
what they mean about gas experiments? for me they are just nightmares
@@BluePatheticDude
Poppy Playtime has its lore on a loom, where it's easy enough to see the general layout of the threads, but some may be lost in the weaving.
FNaF has its lore in a ball like yarn. It's loose, visibly pleasing, but also nearly impossible to get a sense of most parts without ruining the whole ball.
It must place itself on the loom for the success every franchise so desires.
@@purplepedantry wow, that's a REALLY good analogy
@@purplepedantryWhat a perfect way to describe it
I love how Mob Entertainment decided one day to give up the kid-friendly act and be like "You know what fuck them kids we are giving them nightmares"
ok but as Phisnom said, the Children *crave* the blood. Ironically this would potentially appeal to them more.
The fuck? Since when? Cause when i was a kid i was absolutely horrified of the sight of blood. @@radiodeer902
Chapter 3 was WAY more mature than the past chapters, but the past chapters still have never truly been family friendly
@@Xmaster-bh8wb at the same time, it's not like they were trying to discourage their childish fanbase tbf
bro if this chapter came out few gens ago the kids couldnt care less, those weird ass amv-fans might see this chapter as some super cool edgy shit :skull:
the Hour of Joy clip alone gave me everything I wanted in an indie horror game that I haven't seen a while, FNAF for example, was very heavy on implying that people are getting murdered, but you don't really get to see or know about it not until you know the lore and dive deeper into the game. Poppy Playtime was not shy at all at showing you explicitly that there are people getting murdered within the game, the Hour of Joy clip showing dead bodies scattered across the factory was so disturbing yet it's such a breath of fresh air that the developers we're taking this game and story very seriously
FNAF was made by a dad so showing children's bodies would be very heavy for a dad to do
despite the PPC3 Hour Of Joy cameras being black and white and barely having blood, still being disturbing
Adding to the commenter above, Scott also holds the victims of real murder in high respect, as evidenced by his reluctance to add any depth to Afton's character beyond abuse, so he also seems very apprehensive to make it an explicitly entertaining thing.
Thankfully, we may finally see the true scope of many franchises' criminal pasts with the advent of Chapter 3.
The part that did it for me was the scene with Dog Day, it gave me chills, and still does whenever I replay it.
So I wanna ask you a question. Between the headless Freddy chase from SB Ruin, and the Dogday chase from Chapter 3, which one is better?
@@ChumpX2 Oh, it's the Dog Day chase for sure.
ive seen a lot of people say that catnap is offering himself to the prototype in the scene where he dies, like "i want to be part of you, accept me like the others", but ive always interpreted it as him *asking for help.*
he's injured, he's frightened, and his god is reaching down towards him, hand extended, in a way that could be seen as beckoning. and then, when he gets on his knees, expecting salvation, hes just killed, mercilessly, and his body is dragged away.
(especially considering the backstory there-- the kid who became catnap, theodore, was horribly injured by electricity and saved by the prototype, his "imaginary friend", and maybe, deep down, theo was hoping his friend would save him again)
Mine was a bit different. From the way Catnap trembled once 1006's hand reaches down, then reaching for Catnap as if it were a helping hand, for me, it really looked like CN was scared he'd be punished in the same way as Mommy Long Legs' fate - to become a part of him.
But then 1006's hand appeared, and then he beckons like that, so CN probably felt like he was already forgiven/ finally receiving help, *only for him to be ruthlessly killed like he was nothing.*
Maybe it can be considered a mercy kill considering CN was electrocuted extremely bad and well. *toys dont heal* so he would be essentially feeling like he's burning all the way untill he dies
@@DeeCee888 same, that's what I thought as well
I actually find to be even more ironic than a willing death, The prototype initially took Theo back to for medical care, and they turned him into a toy, the very fate he was trying to avoid. Here, if he is asking for help, the prototype kills him (the very fate he was trying to avoid) presumably to transform him again into another part of the prototype.
Honestly I love how many interpretations there are of that scene. Probably my personal favourite from the whole chapter. Though I’m probably biased because I am a Very Big Fan of heavy handed lighting symbolism lol.
I chalked Ollies tone up to trying to sound like a Dora-esque childrens tv protagonist. Like, i could totally hear him saying "congratulations! you found the map! now do you know what to do with the map? *pauses*"
I thought I was the only one who thought he sounded more like Dora
I think he's supposed to be a security system (hence why he can see you in the school and playhouse but can't talk to you) and also functions as a maintenance assistant, designed to give employees instructions so that low level employees wouldn't need to actually know WHAT it is they're doing, just that they're doing it.
sounds more like Gregory from FNAF: Security Breach.
@@autistic_potato1037 On another note based off of this, my theory is that he's an actual toy cellphone. The one we have even has eyes, and there is a mention of a kid in Playcare having unique brain patterns that interested them.

CatNap being skin and bones adds to his fearful look. He's starving and it shows.
And it shows how cruel playtime Co is. The bigger bodies don't need to eat to survive but can feel hunger. That's how they were kept in line. Since the prototype didn't need to eat, nor could he feel hunger and he was rebellious and violent.
@@RandoSando.this is partially incorrect I believe ? , as the bigger bodies are confirmed to have to eat to survive , with the prototype being the only exception ! Which makes sense, as it would give a better explanation to why they opted to keep the bodies for food, then eventually resort to eating eachother , as while it would still be plausible if they didn’t need to eat, it makes more sense with the actions that they all take if they all needed food to survive rather than just wanting the feeling to go away
@@parasitophobia yep, all toys, even the small ones, needs food to survive as most of their organs are still from human children, the prototype is said to be a weird exception that is being constantly studied because of it, but then again, his body seems much more synthetic
@@RandoSando.every toy’s insides are made from children/humans in general, that’s how they are animated and why they bleed. So yes, they DO need to eat to survive, which is further support by the fact that they ate the dead bodies from the hour of joy in order to survive for 10 years
My brother isn't even scared and he watches those cringe animations of that catnap and even has a Minecraft skin of it. 💀
8:04 For me personally I think the cutouts reveal important details about the character's and their demise. Like all the smiling critters (Atleast most) seem to have a scream at the end indicating their death, the pig one talks about how yummy certain animals are, indicating that the pig probably ate some of the smiling critters. The bunny and chicken sounds like they were trying to escape but failed.
The chicken mentions that he's never been outside, which indicates the reality of these children in the playcare. All cute and shit but they were still being raised on a cave underground, no real feel of the outside and being used in experiments. And the unicorn ends up being thirsty for the color red never having enough and getting mad when she doesn't have anymore, which implies her actually being bloodthirsty, just like the toys during the hour of joy.

Perhaps not that far, since it might end up looking a bit goofy if executed(ha) improperly. Though I would trust that they are capable enough.
@@redraph No, just a prediction
the only thing....is its implied Harley Sawyer lives, at least post-Hour of Joy. In fact, given Project Playtime is now confirmed to take place *after* the Hour of Joy, and its heavily implied the not so Good Doctor might have turned himself into a Toy, given the opening line to the Incineration update for Project Playtime. Likewise, Leith Pierre at least survived the immediate aftermath of Hour of Joy, given he's the mission control and tutorial voice FOR Project Playtime.
@@radiodeer902 Ok, but which toy? DogDay? Is he the player?
I love the added detail of Dogday being related to the sun in contrast to Catnap being related to night. When Dogday dies, the sun is setting, since the "day" has ended. 48:57 actually, the children were spared, if you pay attention, Miss Delight mentioned that it’s been several weeks after The Hour of Joy, and that she was locked away in the school. However, after killing and eating her sisters, CatNap opened the gate and they made a deal with her. Later, she asks someone if the children were safe, to which the thing she was talking to confirms that yes, they’re safe and not with the employees, which were already mentioned by poppy to be used as a food source. This confirms that the Children are safe, and are still somewhere in the Factory.
I mean, as safe as one can be in the hands of this thing
there might be a reason for this. if this game couldn't get Any Darker. i Believe The Prototype is Torturing The Remaining orphans witch are now teenagers and Forcing them to build the giant Amalgamation we see In the second trailer
Of course, of course. Not like you want this to make any sense. Alright then! The children are still alive and well inside the factory
@@joannetrueman6838 no, it’s clearly stated that the Prototype cares for the children, giving up his own freedom to save Theodore, who he didn’t know would be turned into CatMap. He hates the bigger bodies initiative and is trying to shut it down, it makes no sense for him to then go on to torture the children after saving them.
Those kids aren't alive after 10 years unless they're toys
I will say that Home Sweet Home, while not having a direct threat, had set itself up to where you think you are in danger of something attacking you. From Catnap wandering the halls, the giant moving Bobby Bearhug statue, to the strange noises you hear around, I felt on edge the whole time just waiting for something to attack so I wouldn't really criticize it too much for not having a threat when it gives you that sense of dread regardless.
This for sure. You don't need to have the threat of death to feel the dread of the situation. It reminds me, in a way, of everyone's reaction to Night 1 of FNaF 3 when it first came out; there's nothing there, but people are still absolutely terrified that there IS. Home Sweet Home is the same, there's no actual threat of death but it always FEELS like there is, so you still feel that terror.
It wears off once you know that there's nothing there to actually be scared of, of course, but that's just a problem with horror in general
@Jfrost9101 Exactly, and it’s helped by being the first area in Chapter 3. If Home Sweet Home was instead somewhere like between the School and the Fun House then it would feel very odd, but being first works as a way to build up the experience.
They got EXACTLY what they wanted. Massive traction, Mass amounts of money from multiple games. Then build the company produce better shit/ Show what you can do, Get better Move up. Their plan worked pretty damn well. Chaper 3 was a 1000x glow up from the old games and it shows what money and support can do from people.

I love that the flare gun gives the player a sense of false security!! The game explicitly demonstrates that the flare gun is supposed to be used to scare off the critters (when we encounter the first one) and after using the gun to save yourself over and over again from them we meet DogDay. When the critters crawled inside of him my first instinct was to try the flare gun (which I also noticed after watching different gameplays aswell), not only because the critters have crawled inside him (critters which the flares worked against) but also because Dogday is just a bigger version of them, which prior to this scene we've been able to scare off with the gun. When I realised it didn't work against him it just added another element of fear for me!!

Idk
omfg bro. 😂
When I was watching the Hour of Joy tape. I was disturbed and horrified seeing so many bodies littered around where I used to be. Watching Huggie rip the heads off of people and mommy literally grabbing the workers and taking them like a spider predator. Catnap also felt like a constant threat looming over my head during the entire chapter. It was amazing and scary af. And then seeing that the bodies from the hour of joy tape were all eaten by the monster toys it makes me think. In this game. There is no happy ending. There is no one to save. It’s just us and poppy against the prototype
Ending the nightmare that made that horrible day possible.
As DogDay said.
"Noting left to save, not here."
I think that Huggy, Mommy, and Catnap employ different styles of horror antagonists. Huggy is a twisted visage of something innocent that stalks the player. Mommy is deranged manipulator and schemer who becomes frenzied when her game falls apart. While Catnap is a prowling predator stalking his prey. It is also important to note that the first 2 chapters were made as low intensity horror accented with high tension sections, while the 3rd chapter was made to be moderate to high intensity horror.
I'm seeing a lot of people saying that CatNap gave up its life for the Prototype when it showed up, but I gotta ask, why are so many so quick to believe that? Could it be more that CatNap, seeing the Prototype's hand out stretched to him, believed the thing he saw as a god was coming to rescue him once again, to heal him from the wounds he just suffered, only to be killed by the very 'hero' he looked up to? That's how I saw it at least
Yeah, to me the scene looked like that painting of god and a man reaching out to one another, with the prototype being bathed in light and all. I honestly thought the prototype was gonna take catnaps hand and they'd both disappear, alive.
but then i got grounded by the brutal reality of Poppy Playtime lol
Because why would the prototype who saved a injured Leo to take him back to the medic center which meant that the prototype would never have freedom that was so close then just go ahead and kill that same kid for selfish reasons when he saved him years ago when he could have done something much more selfish it just doesn’t make sense
@@ColinMcmichael-ce7hi when you look at it from the Prototypes view, yes, the logic CatNap would be saved again makes no sense, but in CatNaps eyes, it would; he was saved by it once before, he viewed the Prototype as his hero, his God, he did everything in its name, "Why wouldn't my God save me?"
@@theringleader5596 it could also be viewed as catnap knew he was damaged and no couldn’t be repaired so he sacrificed himself to repay his god
@@ColinMcmichael-ce7hi it can be seen either way, really. I'm not saying it can't be that, but I'm just saying that I see the scene as him being hopeful to be saved by his god. The way the scene was shown leaves the interpretation up for either direction. I don't want to make this such a big argument over what it is, I just wanted to leave me input is all, not debate.
I’m glad MOB Entertainment cleaned up their act and delivered something that was actually scary
Honestly I think the Cut outs being funny is better than if they where actually scary, also if one started out screaming then apologized that would be even funnier but also an actual jumpscare
Catnap also has another appearance in the nightmare section in home sweet home, there’s a slightly open door (idk where) but if you look through it you can see catnap walking backwards.
And he can be seen walking around corners while looking at you
While I wasn't completely engrossed by mommy long legs' death, it was the point where I knew that this series could really do something. It was a gross death scene with her thorax popping and being grinded down, but chapter three did so well with the more gruesome scenes and has really won me over. I can't wait for more
If there's one thing I want to praise them for, the monster designs look wild and I love the genuinely terrifying looks of them now. The Smiling Critters toys look genuinely creepy with their vaguely eyeless designs and giant toothless smiles. Genuinely unsettling. The Dog Days scene is my personal favorite. That is such a visceral design and sequence with them. The whole freaking Judas with their entrails hanging out angle they did is perfect. And then the parasites enter his body and freaking puppet him, absolutely terrifying.
I feel like this kind of stuff is what was missing with stuff like Mommy Long Legs. Personally I think her look in the teaser trailer feels more unsettling because she looked bigger and more imposing compared to her in game model. Catnap I wanna say is like a more developed Huggy Wuggy with their whole stalking angle and imposing figure. Though I do think them becoming a crusty monster is kinda hokey honestly. Giving me some real Lord X vibes with that smile and crusty body.
Ngl, Catnap kinda does remind me of Lord X, the monstrous look and the wide mouthed smile. Even like the designs of the Smiling Critters toys since they look soo lifeless and the type of toys you'd just have facing the wall when you want to sleep, the black eyes with the wide mouthed smile is unnerving in the dark though.
The fact that Dogday's cutout doesn't do the scream but instead somberly tells you that you need to go and leave him behind hurts me on an emotional level.
Chapter 1 is the introduction of the horror with one great chase scene.
Chapter 2 is where some of the questions are answered as you dive deeper, founding more of the abominations trap there.
And then Chapter 3 is where everything starting to make sense. A horror frenzy along with the realization of what is actually happening inside the facility.
and now we know that chapter 4 is what happens in deepest parts of the facility...
While I do agree with the cutouts kinda falling short, I do think the first one with Bubba Bubbaphant is the most effective one. Not just because it's the first so the structure hasn't been established yet, but also because imo it's actually kinda clever. Him following "Want to know what I remember about you?" with horrific screaming lines up with the chapter's theme of the Player character's involvement and subsequent guilt regarding the experiments.
I do have to agree that the bubba one is pretty good in this regard! (Though it isn’t the first as the previous chapters also follows this formula hence why people don’t tend to find them scary) However one that I personally think probably is one of the best with a screamer from this chapter was Dogday’s cutout , which is used to continue emphasizing not only what happened to him when you first encounter him but also prior to even getting to meet him, as during his screaming portion, the sound of his lower half hitting the ground is also heard!
(Some personal other favorites is probably the Huggy cutout from this chapter in home sweet home where he does his little rhyme that ends with ‘I’m gonna hug you until you pop’ and Bobby Bearhug’s cutout, which just makes me especially sad for the assumed fate of all of the critters .)
The problem with Ollie being the Prototype is that he tried to convince us to trust Poppy. If he was the Prototype, then shouldn’t he be doing the opposite?
Yea, it seems too obvious.
Not unless the Prototype learned how to manipulate everyone around it. It's like the prototype wants us to think that as Ollie he's on our side and may bait both the protagonist and Poppy on coming to the depths of the facility ( it's own territory). The action may be good but the motive..... that's where the question lies. And again when we left the playhouse, Ollie asked us if we have no ouchies or lost body parts and it makes me think that the reason he said that is because it wants our body to be as capable and well-conditioned as possible. If so, it can just take over our body for its own. I that having all the parts of the fallen monsters could signify that its preparing to face us head on and take our body from us. Baiting poppy to ask help from the outside world, killing the other ones like Huggy, Mommy, Catnap and even Miss Delight since her body is nowhere found where she died. The bigger body initiatives are capable but have flaws that's why it wants our body in order to live longer and survive.
@@sedogaming5756 What’s the point of building up a body if it’s just going to throw it all away? And why couldn’t it do this with one of the corpses after the Hour of Joy?
@@sedogaming5756 yeah this other guy called ennard fnaf did that too and it didnt really work out for them, their body rotted away, and this would be a very original idea by MOB never done before!
I have not really heard anyone talk about this but since catnap is in home sweet home when the player is knocked out he could have killed the player right there but decided not as a way to torment the player since catnap knows the player is afraid of him.
24:15 you don't know why she's here? My guess is that before becoming kissy missy she was probably a child at the playcare, it's possible she's looking at a portrait of herself.

I think this is the start of mascot horror part III:
Part I: normal mascot horror (FNAF and other like that)
Part II: child mascot horror (poppy playtime Chapter 1 and 2, banban, other like that
Part III: the split, most go to original mascot, but some will stay with child mascot
It might just be the hype, but I belive the third epoch of the genre may be some kind of improvement on the first.
We've a new chance for a Renaissance.
We may have an actual shot of making it all better.
May we all enjoy the fruits of a new dawn! Cheers to Mascot Horror and to all nostalgia-bathed creeps! 🥂

I am honestly so happy that Poppy Playtime is finally moving away from that children's demographic and putting focus on the real horrors that Mascot Horror was truly about. Makes me wonder how all the parents reacted when their child wanted to play the newest chapter to only fight just how gruesome the game is and had their kid stop playing all together because of how scary it is now. Like Mascot Horror was never intended for children in the first place. The age demographic for any horror game is at youngest, Teenagers, and definitely more fitting for young adults and older. People who are more mature and would be able to react to horror in a bit better ways then children would. They believe fiction a lot more. They can get scared easily and can lead to a lot of harder times dealing with fears like horror. This is why horror games and media was never targeted towards children in the first place. Yes you may have merch targeted towards younger audiences, but this shouldn't be the focus of a mascot horror game. I get it that they wanted to try something new and give horror to younger audiences but sometimes it's best to leave things as they are. Let the older demographics handle these horror games. They were made for them and still are and can show just how good a game can be when it isn't being tainted by the focus of merch and the younger demographic. The horrors and story and lore and characters and environments and music is what fans love and we wanna see all the care and attention being put there for the real audience to enjoy.
Honestly loved the section on the gas mask, unironically. It's great to hear about little awesome details from people who are clearly enthusiastic about the topic!
To be honest, for some reason whenever I hear “Don’t Wake the Angels,” I think of Minecraft, and I don’t know why. But, then again, Minecraft does have scary ambiences, not to mention the “peaceful” music always keeps playing, meaning there is a chance of hearing the main Minecraft music whilst hearing every cave sound, not to mention the existence of disc 11 and 13.
Why the heck am I talking about freaking Minecraft in the comment section of a freaking video about Poppy Playtime!?
Also, after you mentioned how the gas mask looked like something Scott Cawton would make, I instantly remembered the Freddy mask introduced in FNAF 2, aka the same one that I thought was in FNAF 1 due to the Mandela effect…

Daggz is def correct when they say that mob is good at making the antagonist feel like they're constantly present as in home sweet home I was so scared lmao. The nightmare sequence and the appearances of catnap throughout made me constantly think every noise was catnip, and I was doing 180s spins to see if he was watching me in the darkness lol
Cat nap doesn't transform, the protag is hallucinating due to the gas. If you let Cat Nap kill you while in this form it shows his normal form in the kill scene
My favourite part of Ms Delight, hands down, is the sound of her footsteps.
Everyone in paths facility is a monster. Ms Delight is not an exception, however, she does do something different. She’s… terrifyingly humanoid. Not human-that fact makes itself clear the second you get a good look at her-but human-like enough that, when she walks by, the sound of her heels can almost fool you into believe there’s someone in here like you. A worker, a staff member. A real person who’s shoes you can hear down the hall. Maybe it’s just me, but somehow that glimpse of a real, _grounded_ danger-ESPECIALLY in the after hours school environment-is just as terrifying as any monster.
I love this, poppy playtime was always my most favorite game, Mob Entertainment is honestly a smart and creative company, they torture us with lore secrets and answers, they fix their mistakes such as the (cough.. cough.. nfts), they ACTUALLY listen to their community (unlike ROBLOX), and they never really fail to suprise us with their new games.

The thing about CatNap... The player falls fully unconscious two times. And CatNap really could've gone ahead and kill the player right then and there, and sure one could say he obviously doesn't or else there's no game, but storywise CatNap *enjoys* the hunt. He *enjoys* making its prey's life miserable. Although there's also the last warning, would've CatNap stopped if the player left or would he kill the player anyway just for pleasure? We don't know... And I like that
Someone should make an edit where there’s a counter that ticks up every time Daggz says the word “Allocate.”

22:15 Another detail about the gas mask I like is the colors, they kind of remind me of the mickey mouse gas masks from WW2, which for those who don't know where gas masks created for British children during the blitz. the gas masks were made to be in the shape of mickey mouse to make them more Appeling to kids because a lot of kids at the time were scared of gas masks. If this detail is intentional, it would be really cool and make sense a lot of sense considering the employes would have worn the gas masks around the kids.

Okay, for gas mask. You got most of the info correct. The mask used in game is indeed a dual-port CT12, a modified variant of FM12, an improved version of S10, the difference here is that CT12 has no drinking tube, while FM12 does, there's also a version for S10 but its called N10, here's a tip for differentiating between FM12 and S10, its the PSM (Speech horn), if we look at the 3 lines as angles for a triangle, FM12 points to the ground, while S10 points upwards, another somewhat reliable way is to look at the nose, S10 nose looks more human like.
I remember a text that said something like “IF YOURE SCARED/IN DANGER JUS HIDE UNDER A BLANKET” and then there's just a bunch of bloody blankets all over the place. The way I immediately ☹️
Just something to note; the room where we have our nightmare huggy wuggy encounter could definitely be seen as a sick bay but based on the layout, the basins right next to the beds etc… it looks more like triage. I had to have surgery last year and the layout, aside from the sanitation, is almost exactly the same as triage and the ward where I recovered. Just something else to note, while the video doesn’t go into detail on the vhs tapes they play a much more significant role in the 3rd instalment than the first two. The first two were mainly from the perspective of adult humans, while humans were used as the medium in ch 3 the content on the VHS is definitely more focused on characters we already know. They’re easier to find in ch 3 for a reason, the first one that can be found discusses a girl named Marie having nightmares due to the poppy gas, in all likelihood Marie Payne. The girl who was transformed into mommy long legs. You have the joy of hearing the desperation of a caretaker wanting to find out what happened to this young girl after killing her. Yay. Of course we also get to hear from Theo aka the boy who was turned into catnap and he’s by far my favourite part of the game. Yeah catnap is a really fun design n all but Theodore is actually significantly more interesting. Part of the drip marketing covers the story of Theo and his ‘imaginary’ best friend who just so happens to be a disembodied hand, who prompts him to steal files and eventually steal two grab packs and try and escape with this imaginary friend but in the process the grab pack he’s using malfunctions and Theo gets severely electrocuted. His heart stops and his body is fried. The prototype, his imaginary friend, gives up on escaping in order to return the boy to playcare in the hopes of saving his life, instead inadvertently dooming Theo to becoming catnap. His body is just too damaged and he was already on the list of candidates to become catnap. Part of the transplant process for the bigger bodies is using the brain and nervous system in the new body, notably the nervous system is in theory the main culprit behind phantom pains and limb which means when you electrocute catnap this is the second time Theo has felt the pain of severe electrocution. Idk if that was a deliberate choice by MOB or if it’s just a coincidence with them trying to round out Theo’s arc but that’s a fun little thing. Theo was also 9 when he ‘died’ and the last we hear of him in his VHS is 3 years later so when he was 12, game starts 10 yrs after the hour of joy so best guess is Theo is approx 22 when you find and electrocute him again, same goes for dogday who would likely have been in the same age range. MOB has made it pretty clear that toys made out of adults are less cognitively aware after the procedure and the toys made out of children will immediately attack them so for all the smiling critters to be walking around playcare and functioning together they would’ve all had to have been made as children.
I’m so happy that Mascot Horror games are actually becoming darker

and Bendy: The Cage will be much darker than the other games
*(which LET’S GOOOOOO AAAAAA)*
youre right, no one else that ive seen went into detail about the gas mask, and it was very interesting!!! i didnt realise that type of gas mask was that recent
I don’t think Mascot horror will ever die or be irrelevant. I think it will just evolve and grow in many different shapes and forms like any other type of internet horror media.
Amazing video and keep up the amazing work.
To be honest, mascot horror should've always been about grabbing inoccent, colorful and childish things and twisting them into something terrifying, not "kid-friendly horror games" like a lot of people think it is.
I'm just scared of finding out who was turned into dogday with the bigger bodies initiative 😢 if he was a child that would be so depressing.
Most of if not all of the bigger bodies are heavily implied to have been made using children ! A lot of people are uncertain with Dogday due to his voice, but mob games staff themselves in the discord and the collaborative song ‘sleep well’ have been hinting heavily at Dogday being made using the consciousness of a child like the rest of them
I'm glad things are turning up, hopefully we won't be seeing anymore slop-games soon.
And to think this Mascot Horror genre which overthrew the horror game market all started from a silly Robot Bear back in 2014...
Well actually it was a bit of a greyzone up until around 2018 I would say

Dear Heavens! It's thy Robin Hood from Robin Hood: Men In Tights!
IT'S CATNAP FROM FORTNITE 🤓 (As long as they don't have PP in Fortnite there won't be a problem)
I never want the cutouts to change they are so funny and goofy I love them. It makes the smiling critters that don't have major appearances still have a ton of personality. My favorite gotta be kicken chicken getting obliterated by the sun.
The part discussing the Home Sweet Home section, specifically the start of it with the gas, it reminds me of Resident Evil Village during the Beneviento portion of the game. Both of them involve a hallucination where you're stripped of your equipment and have to run from a VERY terrifying creature(Scarier Huggy Wuggy and a giant fetus monster respectively). Biggest difference, RE Village doesn't have a scripted player death at that point.
As a side note, TV Huggy looks like it was made for some sort of creepypasta story, and CatNap feels like he was inspired by the Russian Sleep Experiment, while having the opposite effect.
"anyways to hell with her. We have a GUN NOW" was so funny
I’m actually pretty relieved that Poppy Playtime went down this route. The story is getting scarier now and hopefully it stays that way.
I was a HUGE Poppy hater when the game first dropped but the huge quality increase with Chp 3 has swung me all the way around to loving it. I'm so glad they put in the work to make a genuinely scary and well made game. Catnap seeing the Prototype as this holy figure, even giving himself up while bathed in his god's light, is just soooo *chefs kiss* It's such a fascinating way to play a character who is also a being that causes nightmares and hysteria. Also hes purple hehe
Ollie's VA is an actual child funnily enough, but he sounds remarkably similar to Gregory from FNAF so uh... props to Marta Svetek?
oh my prototype, i literally has thought the exact same thing, i hated PP, now i think it's one of the best mascot horrors
I honestly had mixed emotions. On one hand, they were wayyyy better than the games at the time (looking at you garten of banban and rainbow friends), but they did follow a somewhat uninteresting plot with the classic child possessed object that is linked to children and the, y'know, nfts... but now their stuff is genuinely horrifying and disturbing, some points i was actually looking away from the screen out of anticipation of a jumpscare, and i love how they made the 'weeping angel' type enemy feel more grounded in the games story, and boy do i actually fear weeping angels (the lego dimensions level with them still makes me feel dread) and the DogDay scene was actually so horrifying it feels like MOB has actually been wanting this stuff to make me jump outta my skin and its WORKING.
i dont know if id say mascot horror is "dying"
sure its getting wold and theres a lot of well worn trope now. as you said its becoming oversaturated, but i believe theres still space for a genuine thriving genre here
edit: lol'ing at the replies i love the internet
My favorite part of Chapter 3 wasn't CatNap, or the environments, or the antagonists---it was the third news broadcast in Home Sweet Home.
"Despite Playtime's proclamation of Ludwig's innocence, many believe his reclusive and mysterious nature displayed over the previous decades lends suspicion to this claim. When questioned, Ludwig's neighbors indicated that he would often return to his home in strange hours of the night, and depart again before sunrise. Some believed he was sick, others, that *DON'T MOVE. DON'T MOVE AN INCH.* Playtime Co., it seems, intends to keep Elliot's name within its brand regardless. What is sure to be a long legal battle will follow."
When I heard that for the first time, i fucking NUTTED. Like what is the point of even making a horror game anymore. You can't beat a scare like that.

Hey, has anyone actually thought that maybe, juuuuuuuuust maaaaaaybe… Ollie could be a kid who was turned into a toy, who is now, like Kissy, rebelling against the prototype?
I like to think that the portrait Kissy Missy holds at 24:16 isn't just the picture of any child, it's her or someone she knew before she was turned into a toy. Just a silly little theory but it adds a lot to the depressing, spooky element and it gives that extra "holy shit, this big furry monster was actually a child once" vibe. Just a big thing that made me enjoy this chapter even more lol
Poppy Playtime Chapter 3 has now made me a fan of Poppy Playtime. And I don’t regret it.
I like how Banban now makes everyone use chapter and game interchangeably for mascot horror, including Daggz.
The Gasmask rant was the best part
I appreciate your critique of the cutouts cause yeah, the real horror is in the context, not just the dialogue .. the Miss delight one caught me off guard and really creeped me out in retrospect
I saw a theory somewhere. In the Smiling Critters episode, all the SC are scared because of a storm outside. Then, CatNap shows up and they beg him to put them to sleep. He does, and then he's left alone surrounded by the corpses of his friends. The theory goes that CatNap, having been a child himself, went and found all the kids he could and hid them during the Hour of Joy. That's why he was able to tell Miss Delight that they were safe. But they couldn't survive forever without food. After the food in the area (probably Playcare) ran out, they were starving, and probably didn't want to eat the dead employees. CatNap might've also not told them about the dead employees because that's a little traumatizing for a kid. When he went to check on them, they were begging him for something, anything to make the pain go away (as they were starving and probably also severely dehydrated, but there might've been running water down there), so he decided to put them to sleep so they could pass away peacefully.
