Thank you Frank for this writeup. Confirmed that it's doable at home with basic tools (socket set and pliers for the hose clamps). 2.5hours in and the old pump is out.
I might have to borrow the ‘bolts on cardboard’ to keep track of the order. I like it👏I probably would’ve changed the thermostat at this time as well. Thx for the vid👍
Prefect example for my 2007 RAV4 6 cylinder. I got to see everything clear. 😊 my brother says the same things you do. He has like 10 torque wrench’s.😳😳😳. He like you.
You do not need to remove crankshaft pulley as this is a total waste of time. I used a Permatex black RTV silicone as the Toyota parts guys said the RTV silicone was more like the Toyota sealant adhesive. It was very, very helpful that you showed the torque specs for many of the bolts involved. You did not show the torque specs for the water pump bolts themselves. Great job on video.
I don''t get what you are saying about the crankshaft pulley. With the belt off, it comes out in a minute. Then you have all that much more room to reach the water pump from underneath. Maybe you don't have power tools to remove the crankshaft pulley bolt? You're the one wasting your own time if you don't have the right tools for the job..
@@Merryfrankster_ I'm glad we can agree to disagree. The extra time and effort to take off the crankshaft pulley is not worth it. You not only have to take off the bolt but you have to put it back on with 200+ ft-lbs of torque. You don't need to take the pulley off because you can remove the belt and remove the water pump pulley with this crankshaft pulley intact. Great video and torque specs.
Thanks for the video... Did you have to jack up the engine underneath the oil pan, (unbolt lower motor mounts) just so that you could remove the pump? Or just removing the top motor mounts were sufficient enough? Thanks
I don't know what it will cost you, but I know the dealership quotes $2,000 for the job. Did I say dealership? I meant STEALERSHIP. Ha ha. Ha ha ha ha.
Dear friend, how do you think, is it real at rav4 2gr-fe do take out of timing chain cover onboard? I need to replace chain and VVTI, but i really don't want to move our engine. It there any chance? Accroding to video - looks like it is possible. Yes, there is not a lot o space. But looks like it is still possible ?
@@Merryfrankster_ I see. Thanks. Ok, if we are going to remove engine, in garage conditions, would it be better to move it up with transmission, or just engine? What do you think about it? Move it down with frame - is not possible at home. I am not sure that there is enough space to detach engine from torque converter under the hood
The RAV4 does not have a subframe like Highlander or Camry or Sienna. This makes it easier to remove the engine and transmission. You can remove them both together out the top. Or, if you remove the bumper, condenser, and radiator, you can remove the engine and transmission out the front. First your disconnect the rear motor mount. Then you disconnect the front motor mount. The engine and transmission will be supported on the engine mount on one side and the transmission mount on the other side. You remove the transmission mount bracket from the frame. Then everything can come out. It is nearly impossible to separate engine from transmission in the car. I have another video on taking the engine and tramssion out of a 2AZ-FE Rav4. This is about the same as the 2GR-FE RAV4. The engine and transmission are mounted the same way. @@alexthebear
If a o-ring surrounds a tube, I dab it with coolant to lubricate it. If it sits in a cavity, i apply some high-tack sealant to keep it from falling out. I don't remember what I did on this car, but I generally follow these procedures.
This was done nine months ago and there has not been any leakage whatsoever since then - just saw this car again for an oil change. So whatever I did, it worked out.

Yeah this job is about the limit of what you can do with the engine in the car .
I might have to borrow the ‘bolts on cardboard’ to keep track of the order. I like it👏I probably would’ve changed the thermostat at this time as well. Thx for the vid👍
Most important they do not get mixed up with other bolts from other parts.

Great video and a wonderful work.
Thank you for watching.
This is a great video for the water pump replacement for RAV4 v6, Do you happen to know the torque specification for the engine mount ?
Sorry I don't have those off the top of my head but I would guess 40ft.lbs for the M10 bolts.
Thanks for the video... Did you have to jack up the engine underneath the oil pan, (unbolt lower motor mounts) just so that you could remove the pump? Or just removing the top motor mounts were sufficient enough? Thanks
With the passenger side mount removed there was enough range of motion. The other three mounts were not touched.
I have a 2011 toyota rav4 With the V6 engine how much would it cost to replace the water pump???
I don't know what it will cost you, but I know the dealership quotes $2,000 for the job. Did I say dealership? I meant STEALERSHIP. Ha ha. Ha ha ha ha.
To clarify, you put blue locktight on the two indicated water pump bolts and put grey high temp permatex on the rest?
Honestly, I can't remember what I did. Whatever I did I said in the video.

For me, it is not possible.

Thank you so much! I really appreciate it !@@Merryfrankster_
Additionally, do you apply any lube or sealant on the two o-rings provided with the new water pump?
