You did this job the correct way! I watched another you tuber put the new seal on with the valve OPEN. I worked for an hour trying to get the new one in. Thanks for showing the best way to do this chore. Signed, a new subscriber.
Well done, thank you. For myself, being a little bit handy, RUclips videos are a real instructive means to get myself a little bit more proactive, and involved in the upkeep and maintenance of my RV.
Thank you for an excellent video. Keeping the flap closed was the game changer for me. Made it so much easier. Also I watched how much Vaseline you used and I was using vegetable oil sparingly. Once I used more, the job went much easier. Once again thank you
I have a leak in my toilet (going camping in 3 days) so came to RUclips for possible ideas. Your video was the first that suggested cleaning the seal before taking more drastic measures. I'm going to try right now. Thanks for posting.
@@millersinthemoment5427 It sure did. It held water over night (last night until this morning). I just checked it again (9:15pm) and its still holding water. That is a big relief. Thanks for checking.
Thanks for the video. Are these seals for RV toilets pretty universal? I'm not sure which toilet I have. It doesn't say in the manual for the coach but it is a porcelain bowl. Thank you. (Actually, it says Traveler on the toilet but it's in a Winnebago and is most likely stock.)
I have an old 2001 r-vision with a thetford hand flush that has the same issue. I currently have the floor removed as I am replacing the cheap luan/styrofoam flooring that got wet from roof leaks. I'm having problems finding a new seal. Can you advise ?
If only mine was as easy to remove as yours. :) So far it won't budge. The good news is I managed to push it down just a bit, and so far it's holding water. We'll see
@@millersinthemoment5427 I'm hoping what I did will suffice, for now. What I fear is breaking it into pieces that are even harder to get off. Then it's new toilet time. Perhaps a soaking in WD40 will loosen things up, should that become necessary. It's held water for 3 hours now. Yay.
Another option beside WD 40 would be dawn dish soap and hot water. On mine the rubber seal just sat on a lip. I would think with the flipper held open you should be able to push a flat screwdriver between the seal and the bowl. Good luck.
I have an urine smell coming into my camper. The seal is holding water fine. There was a leak on the floor. Does this mean I need to replace the gasket rather than this seal?
Very important- definitely don't try to put seal on unless the flapper is closed. He did not emphasize this. Also use plenty of petro jelly on both sides. Then push edges in so that it's even all around.
After 12 years camping in 2 different rvs with no seal issues my current one is leaking. 4 years old and no problem until this year. Cause??? The antifreeze I left in the bowl last winter. DON’T LEAVE ANTIFREEZE IN THE BOWL. If winterized properly the bowl can stay dry with no problems.
Ive never seen that happen. With that being said, you will need to remove all the pieces and clean the contact area. then the new seal should slip in place.
If your bowl is not holding water, then you change the seal in the video. Now if you have water running on your floor from under the toilet to change the flange seal. Lastly if there is water on the floor check that the flush valve is not leaking. I hope this help!

Thanks, did it work?

Sorry I'm not sure, you might need to measure the gasket to see if the would fit.
Thank you for this lesson
You are welcome!
This was a GIANT pain in the ass for me. I too was trying to replace this while the valve was open.
WRONG way to do it. Thanks for your help!
Glad I could help out!

I'm sorry I've not worked on one of them before, maybe another youtuber has a video on this.
I have been having problem removing the old seal. I can’t tell if I need to push it off the lip or pull it. Any suggestions?
You should be able to pull the seal away from the lip, meaning to the center of the opening. hope this helps.
Great video thanks

Keep at it, it will come free.

Well done … easy to follow
Thank-you you were of great help I thought thre seal when under neath the clossing Para it goes on top.. thank you thank you thank you ......

yes. but that is fairly easy itself.
Thank you !

I've tried it and mine is stuck came of piece by piece. Don't know what to do.

Not all seals can be removed from the top. Some need to be taken apart. so how do we know which one can be done like this? You do not say.....

Maybe things have changed but it used to be that Vaseline would destroy rubber gaskets. 🤔
Man my seal won't come out easy at all 3 different times I'm tearing the seal it do tight
Am I the only one who can’t get this thing back on? I’ve done it with the valve open and shut. I just can’t get it
Are you sure you have the correct seal?
It's ridiculous that this video is 8 minutes for a 1 minute job.
Real men don't wear gloves. 😅😅😅
Lol, thanks for watching.
